Who dafuq enjoys In N Out outside of LA? I tried it while in Texas and it was horrible and it was also terrible in the Inland Empire of CA. The ones I tried in Lakewood, Carson and Pacific Blvd never fail me. Also Five Guys is trash everywhere.

Yup, the one in Borgata. Ah, well, I guess it's good then that I should be trying the one here in midtown instead. Did it originate on the west coast?

You know I recently found out about the midtown location but have been hesitant to try it because of the Borgata letdown. But I will eventually I'm sure. Yes it originated on the west coast I believe. It's an LA County staple. Ice Cube knows whats up.

Five guys is tasty but overpriced. All the "five guys is awful/garbage/etc" posts just making me roll my eyes. Internet opinions are so dumb. IT'S NOT THE BEST SO IT IS THE WORST MMMPPHHHH STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE!!!

I've never had In 'n out, if I did I'm sure I would like it very much, but I highly doubt it would be some kind of mind blowing burger nirvana like west coasters like to pretend.

Whataburger is just imitation mcdonalds fries paired with imitation sonic cheeseburgers. There is nothing notable about whataburger.

woah cowboy, imitation Mcdonalds !? I would normally let this go as trolling but my conscience won't allow it. There are three main reasons why Whataburger is the best fast food burger:

1. It is always cooked fresh 24x7
2. The bun is toasted in butter (this alone gives it a leg up on every other burger)
3. They server their standard burger as it was meant to be served with only mustard and the veggies, you don't have to worry about some psycho putting a deluge of ketchup and mayo a burger if you forget at 2am after a night on sixth street to say 'No ketchup and no mayo".

Decent fries and their spicy ketchup isn't bad with fries.

Every single fast food thread turns into this same debate.

The reason nobody can agree on which fast food place is the best is because they're all equally disgusting.

We need to draw a map with each factions borders outlined. South is Whataburger (we win ofcourse).

I love In N Out and I praised it heavily when I convinced my In N Out burger virgin friends to try it with me. I loved it, as usual, but my friends were underwhelmed. I imagine the same thing would happen if Whataburger was brought to California. Lots of hype that ultimately won't live up to Californians expectations.

As somebody who is from California and went to university in Texas, this is true. The ONLY thing, imo, that Whataburger gots that is good is that BBQ chicken tender sandwich. Their burgers are average at best. Oh and their fries are decent too. 5 Guys is shit though, especially for the price. I love me some In-N-Out though! Dat fresh warm taste! <3

I went for the first time aswell since i dont have them in my area. The burgers were good but the fries were disappointing. Even though the menu is so small it still took us a while to figure out what we wanted lol. Would go again if i had a chance and try those animal style fries maybe that would help them. Didnt try the shake so i cant comment on it.
Oh and prices were suprisingly good there, nice suprise.

Double double animal style + well-done fries is how I usually roll. Sometimes I'll get it protein style and I really like either my cheese or animal fries well-done as well.

Neapolitan Shake is my jam when in the mood for a shake. Or chocolate-vanilla is another good one.

The thing I never understood about Five Guys is the lack of shakes. Why is that? Not to mention their stuff is priced way too high for what they offer.

Yeah, I don't really get how people can say it is straight nasty when it is pretty much just real potatoes cooked in the best oil and actual ground beef made into a patty and cooked, then say frozen filler shit like whataburger is great. The argument always seems to be between regional chains as well as if exclusivity automatically kicks it up a notch in coolness.

I went to UT too, but took a semster in Los Angeles/Burbank so I got best of both worlds as well. Semi Related: California needs fried veggies. I went to Koo Koo Roos and asked for some fried okra and the employees looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language.

The key is the Not-so-secret secret menu.

And once again, I'll continue to rep Fuddruckers as the best chain burger. Juicy, flavorful meat in whatever size patty you want, buns baked fresh on site and toasted in butter, the ability to assemble it yourself (which is very important to me), and damn good potato wedges. They even have beer and freestyle coke machines.

I still need to try Fatburger when I get a chance, though.

Yes, Fuddruckers is pretty damn good too! Fatburger is a must too! If you are in SoCal and want to try "interesting weird" burgers, go to Grill'em All in Alhambra. The Behemoth burger is amazing.

I dunno about everyone else but after tasting waaay better burgers from sleazy burger stands at the same price or less with even more quantity as well then I think I have the right to call Five Guys garbage. I have no problem with people liking it though, I myself just think it's terrible from the places I've tried.

Shoutouts to Five Guys Cajun fries and peanuts tho.

Fatburger is godlike too.

I think it's more the fact that we're talking about chains. Someone's experience at one location will never be indicative of everyone else's experience at every other location across the country.

It really seems like the truth may just be the further the chain spreads from its source, the worse it gets. A majority of the responses I'm seeing:

West Coast (Cali in particular): In-n-out rules, 5 guys is terribad
Middle country: Both aren't terrible but definitely overrated
East Coast: Haven't had In-n-out, but 5 guys is godlike

It may actually be part of In-n-Out's success is they know if they spread further, those areas will have less control/mutate and give it a bad name.

Since I have an In-N-Out, Five Guys & Fuddruckers within five minutes of each other from my place, I have options. Fuddruckers and Five Guys are in the same shopping complex but because Five Guys doesn't have shakes, I go to Fuddruckers more so than Five Guys. Cheaper too strangely.

Fuddruckers is good. Just hard to find them. When I was in LA I would sometimes hit up Century City Mall just to eat at the food court there which has a Fuddruckers. I was venturing through NJ a few years ago and saw a Fuddruckers, almost had to stop and eat there, but I had just eaten 5 minutes before I saw it.

Fatburger compares more to whataburger imo. Their standard burger is a little smaller than a whataburger, but the ingredients are more similar to what whataburger offers. I've been told to try a Fatburger with a fried egg, but I'm not into that Japanese style of hamburger.

So many wrong answers in here.

Bow to your Burger and Shake Overlord.

And replace Charleston with "the world"

tried smash burger like twice this past month.

pretty damn good.

their milkshakes are the best.

Smash is good. Five Guys is expensive. In n Out I have only had once, and it was alright. I would likely eat there more often if they were around here. I enjoy Steak n Shake, Cookout, and Chargrill too.

What's better in-n-out or Carls Jr? I'm in Vegas, have never had either, and may try one as everyone says they're pretty darn good.

People like what they're used to, so if they're used to frozen preformed patties, they'll like them. If they like fresh meat, they'll like it.

In-n-Out, followers, where is the soulful jam devoted to your burger of choice?

Shake Shack is very close to In-N-Out.

Five guys is several tiers below both.

I'll agree with this. When I was in New York, I thought Shake Shack was quite comparable to In-N-Out in flavor and freshness, but it was pricer. Despite only having it like twice, I like it a lot more than Five Guys for sure, which I've had multiple times.

The last time I went to one, the burgers were completely pink in the middle. Like *raw* pink, not 'just a little bit pink' (which probably isn't a good idea for ground beef anyway).
Medium rare burgers are best burgers.

I had high expectations when I ate at In-N-Out and was pretty certain it wouldn't live up to the hype. I was surprised when it did. The burgers and shake were great. Fries were kinda crappy. I was sad I ate it the last day I was there. I'm hoping to get there when I'm in LA again in July. Maybe Umami Burger, too.

Price : Quality ratio, In N' Out hands down.

Five guys isn't bad if you like customization and don't mind spending ~$10 for a meal

But I can get a fresh double double animal style and fries for $5? Unbeatable

When I was in Anaheim I ate a hamburger from this establishment. It was decent, but certainly no reason to torture one's self by staying in California. If they ever move to Denver I may try it again.
