That's a subjective argument. I think his style was so different and diverse from most artists. His quality bar was so much higher than most other artists I had read when I was growing up, with vivid characters, great expressions, and GREAT framing.

All opinion though, either way you look at it. IT'S ART.

He was good but best female artist?

If you're into the mangaish nonproportioned stuff sure. But really? You think he draws the best females?

I haven't thought of Vigil in years. Somewhere around here I have the first six or so issues of Faust. I got to meet him at one of the Dallas Fantasy Fairs. Same one I met James O'Barr at. Both really nice guys for doing such dark work. And O'Barr knew more about 50's science fiction than anyone has a right to.

I happened upon Vigil earlier in the year at Pittsburgh. Pleasant surprise.

He's still got issues of Faust slated to be released. :O

I snagged a really snazzy print he had of some Western themed chick blowing the crap out of dudes. They may have been zombies, but either way it's action packed. Unfortunately he said he had no plans to do anything with the character in the way of a book. :(

Mark Buckingham will forever be the poor man's Chris Bachalo in my book for pretty much following in Bachalo's wake back in the Vertigo days.

John Romita SENIOR

A fucking legend. His son's work is difficult for me. Some material just looks WRONG when JRJR does it, but some stuff (Thor, Hulk, Spidey) works incredibly well with his style. I think the reason I think so highly of JRJR is that he has a very energetic and original style. There is no one else that draws like him (that I can find).

He had a fantastic run on Miracleman/Marvelman with Gaiman; used a different style every issue to suit each story. He plays it much more conventionally on Fables.

I would like to post the three comic artists that have influenced me the most (but not necessarily for their art)

Dave Sim & Gerhard

They get posted as one because Cerebus was really a joint project between the two, and a Cerebus picture isn't complete without a Gerhard background. No finer backgrounds in the business.

My God, do I love his clean lines and his stark use of black and white. Plus how he manages to switch back and forth between realistic and cartoony is an inspiration to me on a daily basis. I would kill to even be a fraction as good as he is. Oh, and I completely stole how I draw plaid shirts or wood textures from him.

(Damn, it's almost impossible to find good hi-res art by him online)
You might have never heard of him, but his comic "Exit" is my favourite comic series of all time. Again, great use of black and white contrast, and frequent use of double page spread images. It's a damn shame he's never found wide success and can only get a new book out every so often. I'm a huge fan of his work.

WOW at those Riccardo Federici pics! He does it all by hand? No digital stuff?
Really reminds of Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, but I can't post samples of his works coz it'll surely get me banned.

I also like Marko Djurdjevic's work,
