In This Topic: Facebook games that don't suck

If anyone replies with Farmville in this thread I'll just....just....SNAP! I HATE that game with the burning passion of a thousand suns.
Haha, my mom has taken over my Facebook account because she needed another neighbor on her farm :lol She talks about that damn game all day long :/ Pretty much all my aunts/uncles/grandparents are addicted to it atm, and it's actually affecting the weekly family parties we used to have because so many people are so busy doing their farms :(

are we REALLY admitting defeat to these shitty games? Whats the difference to all the shitty browser-"games"?

I only see this hurting the gaming industry even more in the long run. These games are educating the masses that it is natural to get your games without paying for them. Casual piracy is already a major problem, but these games strengthen the belief of not having to pay for gaming even more.

Whoa whoa, that's a pretty big stretch. Considering that people do end up paying money to pimp their farm or any other thing they seem to want that week, people aren't being "educated" to think things should be free. People aren't getting off facebook, walking into GameStop and saying "Why isn't this latest release free!" and storming out. And FB games really are no different than the yahoo games that have been around for how long?

On topic though, pretty sure everyone I know at this point is on Farmville. Kind of creepy. I'll stick to scrabble and scrabble clones.

I think Facebook has huge potential as a platform for gaming, and some pretty incredible experiences are being developed for it at the moment such as Civilization.

I would love to see a space trading game that's integrated into facebook, that would be epic!

I refuse to play Facebook games due to the fact that playing one automatically sends an update to your friends, stating that you're playing it. Honestly that shit gets so annoying on my news feed...
Most games have you confirm to send out the notification. Hit cancel next time!

And you can block applications from your newsfeed to get rid of those sent out by people in your friend list.

This thread got my attention at "Civilization", I'm all hears gaf!

Thanks for these. I've been looking for something to play besides Farmville and Mafia Wars. I tried the Treasure one and Farkle (super Farkle actually) and enjoyed them both...especially Farkle.

Happy Island is the jam. I'm gonna make the islands have a One Piece theme, so when I have all four unlocked the first one will be Whiskey Peak, and the last one will be Raftel.

I don't get bigtime into these, but I like games I can spend less than 10 minutes per day on and see progress. Even if it's a very loose use of the term 'game.'

I love Pet Society, though it's not really a game for everybody.

Anorexic pet club, where furniture is more important than food :lol

Any tips for getting coins or levels?

StarFleet Commander is where it's at Facebook wise.... Sort of a multiplayer MOO.

Wow! I didn't know about this, cheers for the heads up! It's at least a good start. Empire builders definitely suit this platform.

Sorry for the mini-bump. My Facebook game site has been doing well, and I launched forums dedicated to Facebook games, earlier today:

http://www.socialgamecentral.com/forums/forum.php

As everyone knows, the first day is the hardest for a board. Everyone is waiting for someone else to sign up and post.

GAF is pretty message board savvy though (obviously). So if anyone reading this plays any FB games currently *please* pop over and make a topic saying hello. Only a couple people are needed to kick-start things, and you would be doing me a big solid.

Agreed. I really enjoy Cafe and I'm not a "casual" gamer.
It's kind of addictive.:lol

There's not a lot of Facebook games that I would really play (did get into Bejeweled Blitz for a while, as well as that war game that's linked with the new XBLA game), but I think the hate is elitist. There's no reason good content can't or won't become available, especially with Civ coming out, and the social aspect, coupled with the more "relaxed" nature of the games (in general) is a unique, and good, combination.

Elementz i not really original actually but it's enjoyable with great effects, and graphics by me:D Try it !

Happy Island is still the shit. I bought some pirates a drink the other day, and they left me a pirate flag. I also have a whale, good times.

I've been on Cafe World for a while (lvl 62), now getting into Farmville and enjoying Bejeweled Blitz. I originally got into them because my girlfriend asked me to play with her, but I honestly enjoy them now. They're good breaks from playing "hardcore" games. :D

So are there any decent Fb games that don't have a limited number of turns per day/hour that you can play as much as you want? I play Zynga poker from time to time but find it annoying that people seem to go all in for every hand. I hope civilization will at least be fully fledged and not gimped by being limited to turn based like other Fb games.

YoVille is one of the oldest Facebook games. It's basically one of the apps that started the whole Zynga/social gaming phenomenon, and it is still going relatively strong to this day. I don't think it's for the GAF demographic though since it is mainly a decorating game, kind of like The Sims but much simpler and less established. YoVille contains some MMO elements, which includes somewhat of a player-run economy.

I think it is played mostly by middle-aged women who have cash to burn :lol Might be worth a shot if you're a fan of games like The Sims.

I love Treasure Isle. Been playing it on and off since it's launch but it's been getting really good in the past month. Besides the lag I get when playing it that is. Build up your island, go out and dig up new treasures, they added a volcano game to play now which is okay, and recently added a new pirate ship to build.

Sadly it's by Zynga I believe so you really have to use your friends and money to progress at a steady rate. Luckily I have some friends playing it with me so we can continue are zero money policy. No way I'm spending money on a game like this when I could drop it on a dime still. I got super tempted back at the Lost finale though when they added limited time items like planes and hatches. :lol

Anyone out there play FrontierVille? Looking for some good neighbors if you do.

I haven't played it, but I just found out that the lead designer of the game is Brian Reynolds. The lead designer of Sid Meier's Civilization II, Sid Meier's Alpha Centuri, and Rise of Nations.

Dunno bout you guys but I'm having lots of fun making my homestead...

I just wish the game wasn't so god awfully buggy and terribly optimized, among other flawed gameplay mechanics.

Anyone else playing Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy? It's the only Facebook game I've ever played, but I found it pretty enjoyable. It served as good background material for AC2 -- my only problem with it is that they seemed to imply that there would be a lot more content in 2011, and so far there hasn't been any.

I got to Level 25 in this before I stopped playing. The link to AC:B wasn't bad, although I had my assassin's at max level before I found out you could add xp to them from facebook.

And I know this thread is like a month old, so I'll ask if anyone has tried Civ yet and what they thought.

Can someone recommend me some Facebook games like Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect?

This is like pointless/10. Although that does bring up something else, if you could bring a game over to FB from console/PC, what would it be?

There's a Facebook version of Robot Unicorn Attack.

Does that count?

Well, personally I haven't really been able to get into any of the current crop of FB games. I'm primarily an iOS gamer though so I'm open to accepting new platforms, and I'll show you guys what looks like the new hotness in case you haven't read about it yet.

Supposed to be available at the end of this summer and playable at Comic-Con. I don't know how fun it will be, but it hearkens my memory back to my beloved ol' "Gold box" AD&D games like Secret of the Silver Blades and my personal favorite Death Knights of Krynn.

Listen, I'm fairly sure it won't set the world on fire. I don't think the casual crowd is dying to latch onto the D&D franchise, but it has potential. As long as the D&D franchise is alive perhaps there is hope I can one day get a Ravenloft game!

Tetris Battle offers the quickest and simplest head-to-head online Tetris multiplayer I've ever experienced. Its matchmaking system is simple and ideal, you just lose a star or gain a star for every loss or victory, and every five stars you accumulate bumps you up one rank, and if you drop below one star you go down. You only face people in the same rank.
My only gripe (besides the usual FB game signature in-you-face pushing of microtransactions for useless digital goods) is the short and nonadjustable time limit on each match.

Sorry to bump this thread... Is there any good 2 Player games? Me and my cousin like Tetris Battle but we wanna play something new... You guys know anything?

This is the only thing I play on facebook, though I kinda like the standard time limit. Since there's no different time limits I can compete with friends over the highest number of lines sent within that same time period. So not really a gripe for me. (my current record is 127 lines in case you were wondering) :)
