Inafune : An impostor digging Capcom's grave

Here's an interesting, yet long, article on Kenji Inafune. The google translation is a bit off so it's better to read it in French, if you can.

Translated: http://translate.google.fr/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http://www.game-web.fr/public/article.php%3FID%3D156%26page%3D1

Original: http://www.game-web.fr/public/article.php?ID=156&page=1

Not sure if this quote is anything new but it was on the last page of the artice.
You know other Japanese developers who do good work?
Inafune: Level 5 is a good challenger. They will overcome us in the future.

Oh the article is called that way.
Someone is bitter about DmC.

'malfaiteurs'

Wow.

I thought this was going to be that all the crazy shit said recently was an imposter and that Inafune was found, bound and gagged in a broom closet in Capcom HQ.

What is this thread about?

Level 5 is going to be a major threat to Capcom.

Oh wait...

I want his jacket.

At the very least, the imposter has better fashion sense than the old Inafune.

Yeah, the jacket looks really nice.

That would be true if Megaman games were good.

Wait, that's not the right thread title? YOU LIE, OP! :(

The title of the thread says it all. I remember thinking I read Capcom would stop having Westerners develop games for them, and they would only be used for PR, but guess I mis-read that. Besides that there are some other critical issues. There are many huge gem franchises like Viewtiful Joe and Onimusha that they're sitting on, but in this state I hope they stay out until things can get sorted over at Capcom.

Also: you can buy the Dead Rising 2 jacket on Capcom's store website..

ALSO: It would help if the OP had the full translated article instead of just an excerpt about Level 5, now most of the replies in here are just going to be about that little tidbit.

Oh hey, he's giving props to another dev. Peace and love.
The Level 5 quote is old. It's from the same interview where he said the reason Resident Evil sells well in America is because the main character is an American who speaks English, and that he thinks he's like a revolutionary samurai and would likely be assassinated in another time. It was a rare moment of lucidity in that interview.

To sum up the article:
Inafune is a talentless hack who stole and took credit from ideas from other Japanese developers(mostly ex-Capcom guys like Mikami). He also has a hit once in a while and wants Capcom to outsource all their shit to the west because Japan sucks. While in reality he's gone mental and is doing some really stupid shit.

Why does the Google Translate version of the page translate "La mort de Capcom ?" (English: The death of Capcom?) to "The death of SEGA?" :lol

Interesting read, probably too long to paste all in here, but I hope that doesn't intimidate people from going to the site and reading it.

Well yeah, we knew it, but the article is more along the lines of addressing and explaining a known issue in the industry. This needs to be tacked on and on by the "glorious Western" game journalism until Inafune listens to them and we can get good old PS2-era-and-before Capcom back.

This is an incredibly well researched article.. Excellent article. Too bad the automatic translation is a bit ghetto; the original article is very hard hitting.

What a good job! props to the site!

so, why are Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2 good games? i'm kind of lost here. whether he came up with the 'concept' of zombies in a mall or not, he put together a great game.

I'm not sure if he led Dead Rising 2, but i was under the impression that he led Case Zero.

so what am i missing?

well, one thing is clear: considering that inafune is now in a leading role at capcom, his ideas and his approach to capcom's various ips are highly questionable. he's made it clear how he feels that each and every one of capcom's failures in terms of sales can be boiled down to one thing: not westernizing the respective ip or game sufficiently. he is convinced that further westernizing capcom's output will be the solution to most of their problems. i find that very alarming and i have no idea how he's reached that conclusion. sounds like a recipe for disaster to put someone like that in charge...

How about an accurate translation for the rest of us? It'll help spread the word as well.

Well one new thing I learned from the article is that Zero was originally supposed to be Mega Man's new look for the SNES/Super Famicom games, but it was rejected and they made the "Mega Man X" character then made him the actual protagonist.

Yes, would also like an accurate translation if anyone wants to do it.

if Dead Rising 2 is what we can expect from 'westernising' under Inafune I'm totally happy with that.

that's a game that's still very japanese despite being set in America and having overhauled American style controls. it isn't a third person shooter all of a sudden. it isn't full of Dude Huge kind of characters.

if that's his westernisation, then yeah... i'm okay with tighter controls and online co-op.

Dead Rising 2 is a project he's had a ton of control over, i think it shows what he means by westernising.

i think people writing off DMC because of the art style are being ignorant. the final game might be gutter trash or it could be good like Dead Rising 2.

No, his idea of Westernizing seems to be outsourcing Capcom's roster of huge JP IP's to rookie Western developers.

If you want to learn lots of rude words in French, read the article!

Otherwise... some people say this guy is a journalist.

Still reading...man and I usually badmouth the french press....
this is actually interesting.

Heck if you hear Inafune speaking Monster Hunter is his baby, at least that's how the recent communication look like from Capcom....

More like people are looking at his failures with Lost Planet 2, Bionic Commando and Dark Void and fucking it up on the Wii.
