Inappropriate gamer tags.

"Kak" is a universal euphemism for either "shit" or "cock". Did you really not anticipate offending anyone with your choice? Seems either naive or willfully ignorant of the potential consequences to me. I would not report you, but there are any number of people who would (and did).
Since when did poops and penises become offensive anyway?

I was "Momdoer" (as in guy who does moms) on Xbox live for about five years. I know it was stupid, but I was stupid at the time, so it fit. Then one day I booted up my 360 and my name was flagged and I had to change it before I could sign into Live. I was annoyed, but whatever.

I have played Titanfall over the last few days and have seen names with references to dicks, vaginas, boobs and whatever with weird spellings. Not all over the place, but in most games you'd get one questionable name that makes Momdoer look tame.

I want my old name back. If you can have a guy with an odd spelling of Powerbottom, you can have Momdoer.

Momdoer... lol

What infuriates me about this is that they denied you your purchases. Even though you eventually got them back, I would like to see what would happen if this was challenged in a court of law. I would like some precedent for consumer rights for my downloadable purchases.

Yep, kind of hard to believe in the digital future when a small mistake can lead to you losing your games library worth hundreds of dollars.

My heart stopped when I thought I wasnt getting my purchases back. He was nice I guess to give them back but he sure let me know that he didn't have to because I breached the TOS.

While it is always difficult to define what is offensive or not (risking to become overly cautious / boring), one thing is for sure:

It is highly questionable that a scurry nickname could imply the loss of your purchases and or your account.

Again EULAs / TOSs are ridiculous sometimes ... and not really legal if probed.

As the OP mentioned they should at least give warnings, or simply block online multi-player until you change your name.
Yes is more complex to manage, than simply banning people, but tough luck.... you cannot take away access to paid content unilaterally.

I like Sony, but this policy is truly dumb. I'm almost always against taking away users' access to content and data, especially without warning like this. It's one thing to reserve the right to pull this shit. It's another to actually pull it. I mean, it's one of the most minor offenses you can make.

Reminds me of how SCII launched with "dong" on the username profanity filter, forcing several high-level Korean players to change their screen names. GG Blizzard, +1 cultural/userbase awareness.

I'm certainly not offended. However part of living in a tolerant society comes with that nagging, and sometimes downright irritating understanding that not everyone has the same staunchness or humor as I do. I say filthy, deplorable things when around friends or family - and they love me for it. I would never say them in public or announce them in a way that they could be readily viewed and misinterpreted by the world.

So you're saying that I might be able to have my PSN name changed if I can convince someone from CS that it's potentially offensive (in a certain language, for example)? Hmm...

Truthfully I asked my girlfriend what I should make my name and she said thunder cock and we laughed and i was like i cant do that and made it thunderkak.
Its thunderkak not thundercock, it doesnt even sound the same lol

I think you have your answer.

You clearly were trying to get your name to be as close to ThunderCock as possible, despite knowing that ThunderCock would be banned. There are a ton of rationalizations that can be made, but your intent was clear. The intent of name variation, when pronounced, is obvious and clear.

I agree that Sony should let you change your name. I am glad they didn't ban your account. I hope that you are able to continue gaming with as little disruption as possible.

It is something Sony need to work on, I've always been critical of them not allowing us to change a name we have grown out of, or in your case OP, a bit of a silly yet harmless name.

I completely skipped PS3. Never even seen one in real life outside of a walmart demo station. When I bought a PS4 and tried to register "Horseticuffs" on PSN it would not let me. I assume it has to do with some vague connection that "Horse" might have to a horse dick or something, I really can't fathom any other reason it wouldn't be acceptable.

Luckily I had an alternate handle (PSN= Splitdog79 if anyone cares to add me) ready and waiting, but I thought blocking "Horseticuffs" was sort of a stretch.

It shouldn't really matter what my intentions were, it should only matter what the name says. Yes I was going for thundercock but spelled it to sound like thundercack. Are we to the point that something sounding remotely like a word that could be interpreted as a male chicken is a bannable offense? I did not say cock and kak is pronounced kack. I was ignorant to the fact that kak means shit in dutch and I was banned playing killzone by a mod (dutch devs), this is more likely the cause of my ban. I think that if they were to actually ban me because kak sounds too much like cock then I think that would be taking this inappropriate username shit (kak) too far.

Well when you put it that way...
But still.. aside from the kak = shit in dutch, I don't think I was deserving of a ban. The whole kak and cock are too close argument bugs me. I feel bad for any of my indian friends named Hardeep that might want to use their real name.

What's so offensive about that?

No idea although I imagine the system is automated anyway so if some kid got his chump friends to report me it would probably be auto-flagged.

Before Terbinator it was Terbinator2004 on OG Xbox so over 8 years I must have just accumulated a lot of hate in the last one.

I changed to tag to iWasTerbinator. Get Wrecked, MS.

Really? Kak is offensive? Really? Really.
If I ever buy a PS4 I'll name myself cockatoo (or Kakadu which is the german translation) and see what happens.

Well my xbl gamertag is ButtSmasher, that's kind of inappropriate. They made me change it so I added an r. Then they made me change it again so I added another r

i once had the honor of playing gears of war 2 with Poonwrecker. i thought it was hilarious so i added him as a friend.

Xbox One

lol. I'd be pissed.

Since they let you play online with secondary accounts now... I reserved "Eggs Bogsdurnov". The Xbox totally detects it.

My Terbinator 'tag was banned in 2012 due to being offensive. I'd had the GT since 2005. SMH.

Cheers, MS.
Maybe... because... turbans? Like you're an Osama Bin Laden looking Terminator... or something? Yeah I don't know, that ban is really a stretch to me. That's the best I could come up with after thinking about it.

What I've found amusing is that the PS4 censors certain words, when I share pics to FB. Eventhough only the people on my PSN and FB friendlist see them. The words include: boobs & boner (Boob Raider & Tomb Boner), nazis (space nazis, related to Killzone), b*tch (blizzard b*tch, related to Tomb Raider and Immortal)... The words show in the FB side though.

ok

could be offensive to someone else but ok

Ok
Your not getting it. Thundercock would be offensive. Thunderkak is not IMO. If somebody finds that offensive they better never listen when they watch just about any movie, T.V show or any form of entertainment whatsoever. Its like saying frig off, its not the same as saying fuck off to somebody. Its the PG version. In this day and age with kids growing up playing COD and GTA and watching Family Guy, I dont see why I should be punished to the extent of causing me money because I had a user name that kind of sounds like the word cock. Sheesh. But thanks for bringing some food for thought into the discussion. If it was really offensive and I was out of line with that name, then forgive me but holy shit, its so obvious how non offensive that name is. (Except for the fact that its dutch for shit which I understand)

Suspending your account until you change your username seems like an ideal solution.

Taking away your PSN purchases and basically making you beg to try and get them back is terrible customer service. It shows that you don't really own anything on PSN.

I had the honor of playing with a rapscallion by the name of "A1Poonsauce," once during a Halo match. A scholar and a gentleman he was.

I have the username Flophole for a few different games services, and I'm surprised I can get away with that.

I guess it's not offensive, it's just a disgusting word.

On Nintendo systems, I'm not even allowed to use the username "toythatkills."

I couldn't use friskykillface so I did friskykiIIface but the capital I's on Nintendo look like l's . hard for people to add me though haha

thunderkak doesn't sound offensive but I'm still tired so I don't see
