Inappropriate gamer tags.

I like Microsofts system for inappropriate names, I had the username "StonerPimp" for around 4 years on my 360, then one morning I got up and it stated it had been deemed inappropriate and was forcefully changed to "SpokenRaindrop", but they also give a free rename if this happens (I was tempted to keep the name, its kinda good IMO).

I get the forcing of name changes, but no way should things like this be an insta ban with loss of purchases/trophies etc.

I think this is a fairly interesting topic, personally. There are two ideas meeting in the middle, and while I don't like having my choice of names overly-restricted for dumb reasons, I also would like people to exercise a little bit of personal responsibility and ingenuity and choose names that aren't genital jokes.

I'm basically impossible to offend (I loved "The Book of Mormon", and would like an account with the title of "General ButtFuckingNaked") but it's just not enjoyable to see low brow references for the thousandth time when you're trying to address a team mate over voice. I don't curse by choice, not because I'm "offended" by it.

Microsoft has to deal with this rapidly growing section of the population that has been led to believe that being offended is the highest personal crime, and the offendee can go to any lengths to silence someone that causes them even the smallest sense of personal offense.

While I understand the regrettable position MS is in, and their choice to try and be "family friendly", I have to side with Stephen Fry about being offended and say, "So What?"

I hear you, but wouldn't the name butfreakinnakid be a more PG version of buttfuckingnaked and be permittable?

Seems simple; if you want to have a name that is lewd or comes close to being considered inappropriate, you take a risk. If you think you are cleaver and will just replace some letters to get around an auto check, same risk.

Maybe just grow up or learn how to be funny without resorting to cock jokes?

This thread taught me my Xbox name would likely get me banned on sonys system.

Sony really needs to get their gamertag system up to par. Not being able to change your name is fecal.

Surprised that username would end with a ban. Pretty shocked actually.

I've seen such wonderful names as ''KluKluxKlan'', and the shockingly offensive ''I rape your lady'' (though that was on steam). The former is still knocking about on BF4, PS4, the latter I hope is already banned.

I agree with your first statement, It was a mistake I learned from but no need to go telling me to grow up, I can assure I am a grown man and still I find dick and fart jokes funny. I think they are taking it too far.

Thunderkak is normal compared to the names I see on Xbox.
How does that even offend anyone anyway?

In some countires Kak means shit.

In america I've heard kaka, but at the very worst that was closer to poop or doody than shit.
I still wouldn't connect kak and kaka together unless someone pointed it out.

When I get time I should put up pics of what the Xbox enforcer program looks like. Random gamertags pop up and you, as the enforces, decide if the GT is offensive or not. It'll come up for other enforces too and I think if a percentage of enforces find your GT offensive, it'll officially get flagged.

Ok
Your not getting it. Thundercock would be offensive. Thunderkak is not IMO. If somebody finds that offensive they better never listen when they watch just about any movie, T.V show or any form of entertainment whatsoever. Its like saying frig off, its not the same as saying fuck off to somebody. Its the PG version. In this day and age with kids growing up playing COD and GTA and watching Family Guy, I dont see why I should be punished to the extent of causing me money because I had a user name that kind of sounds like the word cock. Sheesh. But thanks for bringing some food for thought into the discussion. If it was really offensive and I was out of line with that name, then forgive me but holy shit, its so obvious how non offensive that name is. (Except for the fact that its dutch for shit which I understand)

kak was already pointed out to mean shit. so you probably got caught on that one, and frig off is an obvious take off from 'fuck off'. it's like the characters from ICarly and Victorious saying "no chiz". lol we already know they substituted the word 'shit' to get past the radar.

its not the same as saying fuck off to somebody. Its the PG version.

you just contradicted yourself :/ so basically frig off = fuck off. but just the pg version for the kids at home right?

she said thunder cock and we laughed and i was like i cant do that and made it thunderkak.

quick question, who suggested thunderkak? you or your gf?

this is what i imagined when i thought of you and your gf creating the id.

GF:Thundercock?
LookAtMeGo: HAHAHAHA, no can't do that lol i'll get banned
GF:Thunderkak?
LookAtMeGo:(doesn't sound offensive) ok, that's good.

How do you report people on the PS3/4? I have a guy I want to report from last night who messaged me with "You worthless faggot".

Sony should allow us to change usernames whenever we want to like MS does. I have had my name "DookieMowf" for a while, but I was hoping when the PS4 was announced I would be able to start fresh, but keep everything tied to my account. Be able to use real names help, but I will still like to change it.

I don't know what your getting at here.

Yes. I meant its not the same. One i would smack someone for and one I would not.

That is precisely how it went down.

Edit : im off to bed, ill check back tomorrow

I'm pretty sure, off the top of my head, there's a series of boxes in their profile under their image where you can choose to message, block, or report people. I'm not entirely certain but that sounds correct at the moment.

no you are not in the wrong you have every right to be pissed off

xbl handles it the same way you just described. they force you to change your username if its offensive

deleting accounts is ridicilous and shows how incompetent sony is with their network

This. The fact that they would delete your account and void your purchases is grossly offensive. Especially since they don't even give you a warning/chance to change it.

Was speaking in general more than at your case specifically.

I also laugh at most farts and inappropriate jokes, but I also know not to fart or tell off humor jokes in some places. Their EULA is designed to be as inclusive as possible and people just have to accept that. I mean you can buy a ticket to a big expensive dinner fund raiser with the Queen of England, but if you fart a bunch next to her or start making jokes about inappropriate things, they will kick you out without a refund. You can buy a game system as well and fart and tell dick jokes all over the place, but when you start doing it in places other users are involve din, they will kick you out as well.

You gotta be careful want choosing a handle. I've had queeefmaster69 and mcqueeefmasta69 both banned. I kept my score though. They just forced me to change my name twice.

They just straight banned you without giving you a chance to change it? That seems pretty shitty since MS on 360 used to give people multiple chances to change their offensive gamertags before being permanently banned.

There are no name changes on PSN. So that wouldn't have been an option.

I admit OP, I didn't know why your name was offensive, but it's my understanding that usernames are moderated based on user complaints. (There's an option I think when you go to report players.) Does that suck? Yeah. Did you know your username was offensive when you made it? (I looked it up, and it looks like it's slang in South Africa for "shit." Edit: Hadn't even consider that "kak" and "cock" could be seen as similar.) If you did, well, you took that risk. Doesn't mean there aren't tons of more offensive names out there, just that someone saw yours and didn't like it. It would be great if Sony allowed for name changes, but until that happens, thems the breaks.

A buddy of mine had the name Infantviolator for years. Some how that name came up when he did a random search for names on the OG xbox. Eventually they made him change it.

"Kak" is a universal euphemism for either "shit" or "cock". Did you really not anticipate offending anyone with your choice? Seems either naive or willfully ignorant of the potential consequences to me. I would not report you, but there are any number of people who would (and did).
"universal"? I never even heard of this word until today.

Let me get this straight:

You sign up for the PSN and pick a name that's a bit questionable but there's no warning given to you when you first sign up.

You buy hundreds or even thousands of dollars in unsellable digital purchases.

Someone reports your name, and you have to beg for Sony's mercy in allowing you to continue to use content that you already paid for.

Quite a racket Sony's got going here.

I've also had trouble with PSN regarding usernames. Thankfully nothing on the level of getting banned and losing all my trophies, but I'm the kind of person who likes to have one username across everything. I've been using mr/mister teaspoon for what feels like forever.

So when I bought a Vita last year and signed up for PSN, I was frustrated that it wouldn't allow any variation of mr teaspoon. I contacted Sony like 3 times and every time the customer service rep acknowledged that the name wasn't against their TOS and didn't contain anything offensive, but their system just wouldn't accept the username and there was nothing they could do. My best guess is that the 'poon' in teaspoon is why. Stupid and annoying.

Now I'm worried that the 'Poop' in my PSN ID will be a problem one day. Hopefully Sony will agree with me on the point that poop will always just be inherently funny.

Changed the upper case "I" to a lower case "L" to pull it off.

I do make a point to report racist/nazi names. Last night in BF4 (PSN) I reported LongLiveTheSS (Origin name turns out to be FirkinYourMom, so double whammy). I had to report "Offensive Emblem," which I think used to say "Offensive Username" or some such. I don't care about sexual or bodily-function names; sometimes they are even funny. But I think that openly declaring that you're a racist, even in a virtual society, deserves to have consequences.

Yeah, it's super annoying. I've been reported for "macewank" a few times, and while I get that it has the word wank in it, the nickname has nothing to do with that. It's my last name and first initial.

i once saw a dude with "iEatbabyDick" as his gamertag. i thought it was pretty funny. racist gamertags are unacceptable though. every one once in a while i see one slip through the net.

i cannot even imagine what xbox live would be like if you could make custom gamerpics a la call of dutys emblems. some of those are horrid lol

Sony's response that their network infrastructure can't be changed is absolute bullshit.

You know else's network infrastructure couldn't be changed? Valve's, Blizzard's, and those of every other competent company on the planet.

How does Sony think that Blizzard was able to roll everyone's World of Warcraft ID's into Battle.net? You think that infrastructure was set up for that years ago during WoW launch? Give me a break.

There's a simple solution to this problem — just do exactly what Steam does. Every user has a unique "master" ID that can never be changed. They also have a "public" name that can be changed for $10 or whatever. Sony could take it a step further and make the master ID's hidden so that gamers would never even know them. This would work perfectly fine because unlike Steam, PSN users already log in using an email address rather than their user ID. New PSN users would be assigned a unique random string for their background ID's, current users would have their original PSN ID.

BOOM, DONE, WOW.

I'm surprised they don't give the option like MS do.

Someone on my friends list actually sent a message to everyone on his list to report his gamertag offensive so he could get a free change and it worked.

Brilliant idea.

That sounds like a good way to get a PSN name changed. Really wish PSN would give an option to change the username, I'm really sick of mine. I'm seriously on the fence of just making a new PSN, the only thing holding me back is my friends list disappearing.

It's ridiculous that you can get banned for words from different languages because not everybody knows that Kak means shit in Dutch. Forced namechanges I can agree to, but not instant ban with loss of the account. That's just shitty.

I think he was banned because it sounds like "cock". He was probably reported by a puritanical American.
