Incredible recent Bioshock Infinite interview with Levine

How massive are these spoilers, exactly?

I wanna read it but I don't want things ruined.

Well take massive spoilers as what you will, and if you want to take the chance then do it. Hence, why I didn't post any quotes. There's some big shit in there.

I'm already blown the fuck away, but it didn't ruin anything for me at all. It just increased curiousity and hype tenfold.

I think I'll bookmark that interview for after I beat the game. I'm not on a media blackout, but I'd hate for something big to be revealed prior to seeing it in game.

Massive spoilers might be overstating it, unless you're on a total media blackout. Just a mention of some themes (and moments that develop them) that have already been talked about in previous interviews, nothing too earth-shattering.

I didn't think it was really massive or major. There's an early game spoiler but it isn't some huge or even particularly major part of the game. It's interesting and I didn't think they'd have that level of detail but its more of a neat, subtle attention to detail thing than massive game spoilers. Although ymmv.

Yea I went in expecting something on the level of Darth Vader is Lukes father and left disappointed that there weren't any spoilers worth a damn. Some people really are too damn sensitive.

You must be new here. See, I don't take chances with this crowd. It's called respect.

I had no idea certain themes were going to be implemented as described, so it was a bit shocking and I could see how it would shock others. Especially in the second scenario described.

Also, the final question/statement from the EW guy was pretty surprising as well. People have their limits on here when it comes to spolierage. I just wanted to share it and give plenty of notice. No biggie.

"...you attend a carnival and enter a raffle where the winner gets to throw a ball. It turns out you have to decide whether to throw the ball at a bound interracial couple, as the crowd demands, or throw it at the announcer."

I wonder how many will choose that first option.

Ah, ok. lol, I was worried it was "Would you kindly?" level stuff.

Honestly I'm surprised there would be any non-white characters in the game. This place won't seem all that minority friendly to move there to begin with.

Depends on how many people are there. I'm probably not going to want to piss off a huge crowd so I'd play along.

Peer pressure yay!

After your post in the slapping baby on plane thread Im not surprised at all.

Yeah game sounds good, can't wait to play it finally

Between this post and yesterdays shit you said about hitting a kid, you really are looking to be a severe fucking asshole.

I would rather have him have the common courtesy to let people know before they go in reading something they don't want to know. I'm on somewhat of a media blackout, so I'm avoiding this until I play the game.

Thanks OP.

All I said was I understand the guy's frustration and typical mob mentality took that to mean I support hitting kids. I guess it was the "balls" part that threw people off, but it takes balls to murder someone too. Doesn't mean you did a good fucking thing though.

When are you finally going to put me on ignore like you said instead of whining like a pussy about me in every single thread I post in?

I remember reading and even seeing power use in Bioshock and got crazy hyped for it, but then it never felt as good as it looked or sounded. My optimism is still cautious.

I get the feeling I'm going to be very annoyed about the reception to this game if it is backed by a hyperbolic reaction to some heavy-handed scenes.

EDIT: And that includes both overwhelming praise and overwhelming backlash.

Read the interview, found it to be really interesting. If anything it got me more excited to play the game.

BIOSHOCK INFINITE REVIEW
I never felt so... bad for black people

"... and when you encounter your first black man in chains, the realization of this world will dawn on you. A star spangled banner is seen in the background, flipping harshly in the wind. The black man looks at you, eyes locked to the middle of the screen, right into the player's face. EMANCIPATE and HARVEST pop up on the screen. The wind picks up and the flag in the background stiffens into something like a portrait.

Bioshock Infinite is a landmark in a world with zero perspective on slavery."

"When handed the ball and given the choice to huck it at the interracial couple or the announcer, I already knew my answer. Then I remembered a YouTube comment from a few weeks ago and... well, I honestly frowned in real life."

Spoiler tagging the juiciest part for those on blackout:
I skipped ahead there for two reasons: one, I don’t want to spoil why violence does finally break out in BioShock Infinite. It’s a moment that will become notorious in gaming, and a hard one to forget.

I hope the game is as good as the hype, because there is no longer any way for me to temper my expectations for it.

There’s something I can’t tell you about BioShock Infinite. Not because it’s a spoiler – I’ll avoid those too – but because I can’t quite communicate it. It’s something I felt after playing Half-Life 2, and again after playing BioShock 1. It’s the sense you get after experiencing something so vivid and rich that you know you’ll never be able to fully describe what it felt like. But I’ll try.

That bodes well.

Anyone still looking for the Ultimate Songbird edition of the game, Gamestop apparently has them for the regular $149.99 price for both PS3 and 360. Ships on 3/26. Very tempted.
