Yo, who gives a FUCK about Will Smith being in this? Goldblum is back; that's all that matters.

And the aliens better win this time. If this is another happy ending for humans then this entire story will simply be stupid. If a species of alien can travel across space, they can figure out how to destroy such a soft target as humans after TWO tries. Otherwise it makes no sense that they possess the technology they do.

the aliens will win, otherwise they would;t have cut off the guy saying independence at the end.

The part with the planes flying out of the hangar is so, so bad, mostly because of the animation. Plastic model kits on strings would fly more convincingly.
Pearl Harbor had eerily realistic aircraft animation 14 years ago.

For anyone saying that this movie looks too serious... we have random soldiers firing laser guns at alien ships and alien-human hybrid fighter jets flying everywhere. This movie's stupid levels are in the right place.

Though I still agree with the colour filtering/ over saturation. It would help change the tone of the movie if they went with more of a natural look.
 
Now that I think about it, why would the aliens come back? The answer simply is they would have to come back to finish us off, it's too big of a risk not to.

The aliens have to assume we've reverse engineered their technology, and that we've captured some surviving aliens and interrogated them to find out more about their homeworld, their interstellar empire, and advanced engineering marvels like a Dyson Sphere and so on. Maybe we're even breeding the survivors to become a subservient slave species.

Give us 1,000 years and we could become an intergalactic super predator species like they are. And the aliens have to know humanity would never feel safe if the aliens from the War of 1996 aren't exterminated or made into a subservient caste. Humans defeated a smaller group with primitive tech, the aliens have to assume that we're a dangerous species if we have the right technology and enough time to prepare.
 
I'm 100% convinced based on no actual evidence that the big ship isn't crashing into Earth and more making a landing. The fire around the ship is a throw back to the last film, it's heating up on re-entry but I also think it's slowing down and landing. So I don't think they are crashing that massive ship into Earth. It's just so heavy that it's crushing the buildings and moving dirt in a IDGAF move. In one of the early shots of the trailer, you see it landed and the feet of the ship.

They are so lucky Batman doesn't exist in this universe.
 
Well it's got Goldblum going full Goldblum, so it's already going to have the hilarity levels set to 'high', and the usual Roland Emmerich brain-dead spectacle is off the charts what with those fighters and the Mass Effect Reaper-looking ship.
is it Thor or his Hunger Games brother next to Goldblum on the moon?

That giant ship I think is from later on in the movie, they show it landing in the middle of the trailer. The skulls they show are from the Aliens that survived the 96 war and were being hunted down and exterminated.

Maybe he's talking about those Aliens that were on the run building a beacon to call their people.

Few things are more amusing to me than movie sequels deciding to kill off the original protagonist in unnecessarily humiliating and anti-climatic ways in-between films. See also: Final Destination.
 
Hiller should have died as the commander of the dangerous first mission of setting up the Saturn moon base. I mean there's a valiant hero's death, living his dream of being an astronaut and selflessly doing what had to be done for the safety of humanity.

Yea no Will Smith means that I'm gonna be in the "wait and see" camp. The chemistry between Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum made the original so fun to watch.

The original, at least the way the thread is introduced, seems a lot more serious than anything from this trailer. Comedy came from lines of dialogue, sure, but the tone of the most of the film was somewhat oppressive, or trying to be.

The firing lasers randomly shot gives me Starship Troopers vibes...

Too much CGI. Not even the same design on aliens(?) and ships as the first movie. It looks similar to Battleship. And what's up with the ridiculous looking jets?

This looks terrible, just like all modern sci-fi movies. But there's three upsides to all this... Jeff Goldblum, the Blu-ray version will hit the bargain bin a couple of months after the release so I can pick it up for close to nothing and the best one, no Will Smith. Yes!
