Indie Games 2017 [April] Riders of Rhea on Rain Worlds Reel

I spent a good 4 hours on Sunday playing coop and race in N++. Had no idea the modes would be so enticing! It's only local play but if you can find someone, give it a shot.

I just finished Spark The Electric Jester and I'm bummed that this game is getting little to no attention. It's easily one of my favorite indie platformers.

I feel like we don't get many solid platformers lately (not metroidvanias, just simple, level-based platformers) but this year has been strong with Spark, Specter of Torment, and Splasher, all just fantastic (with Specter of Torment maybe topping the original game for me).

I'm eyeing Slime San next but the aspect ratio and the pulsing borders are kind of a turn off.

Too bad because Slime-san is great. You can customize the background, and remove the sceen shakes in the settings, but not the pulsing borders. 😘

The demo sadly didn't really resonate with me. I'll probably pick it up when it drops, but I just didn't like the gameplay enough to get it at full price.

Understandable, not everyone is into Sonic games. :p Personally I love this kind of platformer.

I just checked and man it's been over 2 years since that first Hunger Teaser trailer, whoa.

Does anyone have impressions on Flinthook?

I was expecting the highly addictive and moderate to hard difficulty roguelite type. But from the reviews I read so far it seems like it's on the shorter and easier side. Would love to hear about it from a fellow gaffer.

In terms of gameplay it's extremely fast, fluid and fun. I'm a big, big fan of it! It is definitely on the easier side of roguelitss but I actually find that refreshing. Can't recommend it enough for fans of 2D action platformers!

Thanks for that! Gameplay sounds like something I would enjoy, I tend to appreciate more a good gameplay on a challenging game.

Have you by any chance played GoNNER?

That's the one roguelite platformer I've played that was really short, not very replayable and still managed to make a lot of sense as a roguelite. If you haven't it seems to be right up your alley.

No problem!

And I have not played GoNNER but I remember seeing footage of it an thinking it looked like a lot of fun. Visuals were also appealing for me. I will have to check it out!

I totally missed the GNOG release date announcement. Between What Remains of Edith Finch, Little Nightmares, these two, and RiME, my PSN wallet is like a water pail full of holes. I just put $50 in it last night and it's already dry.

(These both release on May 2nd, so I'm formatting them as released since by the time the May thread goes up they'll be at worst only days out.)

TumbleSeed - $14.99 (PS4, Switch, PC, Mac)
TumbleSeed_Screenshot_Desert.png

http://www.tumbleseed.com/

Roll up a procedurally generated mountain avoiding holes and defeating corrupted creatures in this dual-stick action balance game. Grow powerful with upgrades, meet new friends and master the art of rolling to reach the peak and save your home.

Steam Page

Really curious how both these turn out. Tumbleseed looks fun, capturing the Hohokum spirit but with a better focus on gameplay. My brief time with the GNOG VR demo was a little more of a head scratcher (no pun intended) as it was a bit more obtuse.

Cross posting my thoughts on Everything:

header.jpg

http://store.steampowered.com/app/582270/Everything/

Everything is very interesting. It's from the same developer of Mountain, another game that I enjoyed and shared some of my thoughts about it before. It's not the kind of game many will enjoy, but if you're into more experimental games it's worth checking.

The game idea is pretty simple, you bound with the currently thing you're and oce it's done you may move to a bigger or smaller thing and see the world and another point of view while listening to thoughts of other beings/objects/etc. During the exploration you may find audios from a philosopher(?), the audios fits in the theme of the game so I won't enter into details.

As Mountain where you could leave it spinning alone on your desktop, Everything has an auto play mode where you'll start automatically exploring the world and it's useful for a certain thing you nees to do.

Was the game presented in any of the previous threads? If not I may format and entry in another post.

Didn't play enough for a real vote, but NITE Team 4 and Immortal Redneck have been getting a lot of playtime for me. IR is like Tower of Guns and Ziggurat, a FPS with procedurally generated levels and skill tree progression. Smooth as glass gameplay, fast and tight. Beautiful graphics, enemies and environments. Really glad that one was mentioned in this thread. I had somehow missed it, but having a blast playing it.
NITE Team 4 is an early alpha. I'm liking it a lot, but have gotten completely stuck. Not sure if I'm missing something, or if there's just an advancement bug on an early build. Was liking everything a lot up to that point, and still would recommend it. Needs a little polish, but coming along nicely. The alpha is open, so anyone interested can check it out from their NITE Team 4 website. The devs are active on the forums, and responded quickly when I had a question on purchasing via email. I played a little of one of their other games, Black Watchmen. I know their style of game isn't for everyone, but if you like what they're making, then they have several options to get into.

I only played two games from the op this month, but if I am allowed to vote with such a small number they would position like this:

1 Snake Pass
2 Bomb Squad Academy
