Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

Good scores so far. Mid 80's it looks like.

Damn, its looking like the next killzone shadow fall...

Except that most impressions from other Gaffers seem like they generally enjoyed it, step up in the series, etc.

I can't comment really unit I play it, but these reviews seem to fall fairly in line with (the low side of) expectations. If it's a low to mid 80 metacritic, I think it should be fine.

Regardless, from what I've heard, it's a blast to play. And I truly couldn't care less what a "journalist" says in regards to whether or not I want to play a game.

He doesn´t like a game you have not played yet as much as you want him to - so he is a joke?

OK...

Did you watch the review?

And yes, this along with the God of War controversy, Sony too, and the continuous defense of MS during the DRM debacle puts him in a very bad light.

So Sessler, Eurogamer, Edge, Videogamer....they're all jokes now.

Polygon is now the one to trust. All hail Polygon.

In Gies we trust.

But seriously, these are the kind of scores I expected. We get some of those 7s and low 8s, a bunch of 9s. Seems like it's scoring like an Infamous game.

The highest I've seen so far is Destructoid's 9.5. Many 8s and several 9s. Quite a few 7s and Sessler's 6. Definitely not a Killzone Shadow Fall.

Seriously...people need to grow up. It's okay for someone to have a different opinion of a game than what you think they should. That's sort of how reviews should work, and I wish we saw more people do that, instead of nearly all reviews falling within a few points of each other.

As an open-world game, Second Son feels emaciated. There’s little to do in the way of side missions, and what is here becomes repetitive, unlikely to sustain interest beyond a single playthrough. Approach it as an action game that just happens to be set in a nonlinear environment and it makes more sense, but its not-inconsiderable achievements take effort to uncover. By the time you’ve gained the full suite of powers, though, it’s easy to forget its shaky first steps and impossible not to share Rowe’s vocal enthusiasm each time he does something spectacular. And Sucker Punch provides plenty of opportunities to do so.

So it succeeds as a incredible super hero game but a mediocre open world game.

Sounds good to me

Pretty funny seeing Polygon give it a high score after all the preemptive hate they've been getting. Not saying that they didn't deserve some given their history but...it's just funny in hindsight.

What else did Sessler say is bad about the game side from "not playing like a next gen game" (lol)? Can't listen at work...

Sessler giving Titanfall a 5/5 despite the game having basic features missing makes his inFamous review that much more of a joke.

Also here comes the Sessler hate even though his review scores typically follow his opinions on the game.

Maybe he liked TF more overall? Reviews are, you know, opinions.

Really? I can understand that in a way, but 'post-GTAV world' is arguably poor comparative argument to make.

I meant this:

Overall, it's good clean fun - so it's a shame that Second Son suffers from a consistent failure of imagination in how it's put together. There's not been much of an attempt to shake up the mission scenarios or structure of the game, leaving you with a very rote open-world adventure. Follow the waypoint marker, chase the suspect, investigate the scene, wipe out the jackboots; hunt the collectables and tick the boxes. You've been here many times before. The collectables and side missions all contribute to reclaiming districts from the DUP, which organises them into chunks and structures the reward usefully, and they've been judiciously pruned - but this is good admin rather than great game design.

The only reason I came to this thread was to see some impressions; having to wade through people legit getting discouraged from picking up the game because random internet reviewer didn't like it - come on.

well, based on the reviews it is the worst game in the series

what

It's not. I like New Marais better than I liked Seattle. Infamous 2 has better power customization, but Second Son has more powers. Second Son looks goddamn gorgeous. You gain some, you lose some.

So far what I've read from these reviews has led me to believe that those that love it, love it because it's like a next gen infamous.

Those that don't like it that much don't like it because it's like a next gen infamous.

I'm ok with this, I loved the first two games.

The disappointment is only heightened by this section coming after a scrolling wall of expository text and being followed by a tutorial that includes invisible walls and reveals an odd lack of connection between hero Delsin Rowe and his environment. Parkour feels skittish and glitchy, Rowe’s clumsy, flailing form often clipping through objects as he tries to gain purchase on one of the game’s innumerable handholds. If it wasn’t for the breathtaking view – and in terms of lighting, shadow and detail, Second Son exceeds even Shadow Fall’s visual achievements – it would be easy to confuse this with an early release for the previous console generation. And not a very good one.

damn

apparently that's just the first section though...but still

sessler doesnt quite get the combat well imo. He complains about have to dash in and out of combat ... well thats essentialy how the game is supposed to be played. the devs even mentioned ths that dash adds this whole new dynamic ... Other points he makes I can put down to opinion and thats cool to each his own

It's why I always say...who cares about reviews?!

It's not my style game, but if you enjoy the series or want it.....buy it. Have a blast...who cares what the reviews say.

I didn't even like GTA V. Why is GTA V even a benchmark? Because you can play golf and tennis?

"Post GTAV world" is a really weird way to compare things.

Dust is settling.
Nice scores. Some understandable criticism as well.
Overall, easy to come away with the impression that it's a great game.

Dear Sucker Punch

I'm sorry I couldn't do anything to help you get a higher Metacritic score. Hope it's not featured in any clause in your contracts.

The best I could do was to pre-order your game.

XOXO
