IMO, crossover games only work on the strength of the collaborating IPs, and well...

The only one I've heard of is Cross Code.
Think of it this way, it's a good way to find out about indies that might have had underground fame that you could have missed out on.

At least that's how I look at most crossovers. I didn't know Gintama and Dr. Slump existed until they had a crossover with Dragonball Z/Super.

And a lot of the games these characters are from have positive impressions on steam.
