Infinity Blade 2 Announced [Update: Trailer, Screenshots, Details, December 1st]

what looks better on Vita than these screens? I haven't looked too closely at the Vita to be honest, but any better than these IB2 screens would be PS360 quality IMO, and Vita is said to be less powerful than those.

I thought the vita is supposed to be a quad core CPU compared to the A5 dual core, and the GPU is twice as powerful too? Assuming a decently game optimised OS and games should be capable of out punching iPhone 4S. Plus most iPhone games are more like xbla/psn games rather than full retail games, and pricing pressures might keep ambition levels for most games relatively low - infinity blade is an exception rather than a rule

Just take a look at Uncharted.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was running on the Vita at a framerate of 24 Frames Per Second once optimized. The fucker is a beast.

iPad has A5, so I guess..
I get the feeling the iPhone 4s has more RAM and also has to render a smaller screen. Thats why Infinity Blade 1 looked and ran better on the iPhone 4 compared to the iPad 1

sooner than that. Tegra 3 comes out this fall is better than the A5 about a year until next tegra. OR whatever they put in the next ipad.

home consoles replaced by hdmi out tablets. at least it would have a better browser and interface than either ps3 or 360.

I'm not convinced that Tegra 3 will beat the A5 purely in GPU in performance, but with a quad-core A9 to back it up, it might be able to come out on top in overall games performance.

I'm not holding my breath though, especially since no android (or windows 8 or whatever) game will be as optimised for the hardware it runs on as a good iOS game.

Amazing to think in 2-3 years we'll have portable devices that blow away current gen console hardware.

2-3 years? Try iPad 3 next year. This already looks 100% on par with most PS360 fare, though to be fair it's (I assume) just an on rails tech demo of sorts like the first. J6P's not going to make that distinction though, so to him, a similar effort on iPad 3 will appear to be beyond PS360 visually.

iPad 3's SoC should be an incremental upgrade. ST Ericsson A9600 and Apple A7 based devices will definitively surpass Vita hardware.

Tegra 3's relative performance is not a question: the A5 resoundly outperforms it. 6000 for the TF201 versus 10000 for the iPad 2 in GLBenchmark.

iPad 2 can run anything just as well as iPhone 4S. The performance scaling between the two is pretty much spot on.

How long before mobile phones and tablets pass the Vita technically? IB2 says not long.

The hyperbole in this thread is incredible.

Hope the gameplay is as much improved as the graphics(as in, it will actually have gameplay this time).

IB makes several compromises to reach such fidelity. The fact that Vita has the same GPU, but with double the numbers of cores and dedicated VRAM should be enough to conclude that Vita is capable of better. The difference? Vita games aren't only on-rails with fixed cameras and only two characters models on screen-at-a-time games.

thats pretty much all speculation from one game only? you'd have a far better argument if you pointed out the weakness of touch screen controls (which is far more likely reason why infinity blade is on rails).

You'll retract that statement when you see it in motion

I watched the CNN stream live while I F5d the shit out of the live blogs. The game looks fantastic, but those screens are a bit much. Definitely doctored up some how. It looked great, but those big ass screens in the OP are indeed bullshots. The shadowing however was really nice to see, and it looked great. I also agree it may have been Vita level visuals guys, although there wasnt much on screen during the entire demo. 2 characters max.

Huh? That Vita is more SoC is more powerful than the A5 is no speculation. And why would I talk about control difference when we are talking about graphics? Epic confirmed that the way IB was like it was is because the device couldn't do more with such graphical fidelity.

didn't they release a tech demo where you could go around a town or something innit? otherwise i must be mistaken!

Yeah, but that demo didn't had anything interactive in it. :)

Epic Citadel you could move around in.

However, I don't think it's hyperbole to think these visuals are reminiscent of a console game.

It's on rails with a static camera, which definitely helps a lot, but that it can even fit in is still an impressive feat.

Here is a comparison with other leading fantasy console games ranging from static camera to open world:

Infinity Blade was the first ios game I ever played, and was one of the most boring games I've ever played. It put me off ios games for months until I finally played much better games like Mirrors Edge, Dead Space and Nyx Quest. I can't imagine why the second game is generating so much excitement.

The difference being that God of War 3 has more than 2 characters on screen running at 20 fps.

When Infinity Blade is running 10 characters on screen at 60 fps then you can compare.

I can see it has awesome graphics but comparing it to God of War 3 or Skyrim is just ....wow.

So beautiful... can I still run this in iPad 1 and iPOd touch 4g?

Ipod Touch 4G will be supported.. Not sure about IPAD 1 though. Ipad 1 might not have enough memory. Hope my 3rd gen touch is supported. There were some performance issues with original on my 3G touch.

Did you read the rest of my post?

I stated it was impressive that it could look like a console game, though obviously it was still limited in scope.

This is a key step on the road to running console like games on a phone.

I'm not implying that it is literally 100% like a console game, just a notable step toward them.

These are important points to keep in mind. Though I'd say the fixed camera isn't as big of a deal as the very controlled situations (in terms of number of characters etc -- at least if the game is anything like IB1).

Also, if I had to guess I'd say the "screenshots" in the first post are rendered at around 8kx4k resolution.

Tegra 3 devices will have much weaker graphics than A5 devices.

Off a fresh reboot, and assuming your device software is operating correctly, iPhone 4 typically runs around 20 frames per second on the first game.

And the very opening cinematic and first fight of Infinity Blade 1 displays three characters simultaneously.

The games look good because they're rendering at a very high level of detail. Layering on more effects at a lower level of detail is easier; that's why most games go that route.

Any word on additions to the game as a whole?

I recently spent time playing Dark Meadow on iPhone, which is a more of a horror themed game running on iOS. The combat is similar to Infinity Blade (though with both distance and melee combat), but there is an exploration element as well. You basically get to explore the whole area Myst style. You tap on specific points and the character moves forward. You can then look around and interact with the environment. Unlike Myst, it is real time (as you'd expect) but the preset movement path actually works well for a phone.

This alone adds a LOT of depth to the world as you actually have to navigate and look for ways to proceed rather than simply watching cutscenes between fights. I really think this sort of thing would be very beneficial to Infinity Blade. Allow the player to explore the game world like a point and click adventure title with light puzzles and navigation in addition to fighting.
