Initial Pokemon X&Y Impressions with Junichi Masuda (Polygon, Eurogamer, IGN, others)

They clearly included the Kanto starter's early because the new ones are all so dreadful. I don't even know which starter I'm going to pick because that goon is going to be perma-boxed as soon as I get a charmander
or squirtle.

Nah they included them because of mega-evolutions.

I'm guessing this a good Pokemon to start on? I haven't played since the original except for B/W which I fell asleep after playing an hour of it. Little daunting knowing everyones studied this game to death that I'll have to fight against.

I actually think the study about this game is pretty limited in comparison to any other. After all, in every other launch people would have gotten the game on JP release and dissected it hours after launch (if not sooner) with all of the abilities and new Pokemon sprites and whatever so we'd know tons about the game before US/PAL launch except maybe non-JP Pokenames. Since this launch is worldwide there's far less time for that to happen before the game is in our hands.

Bro, I got inside sources telling me it won't look like Z, but it will look like a sideways N.

Not sure how I feel about this.

I wonder, since Pikachu is getting his anime voice, will Raichu and Pichu get the same treatment? It will be weird if Pikachu can say "Pikachu" but it's evo/pre-evo still gets (remastered) squawking.

Also Raichu's > Pikachu's anime voice.

Was it announced that the old ones are getting remastered? because those 1996 Zubat sfx are classic! (not really they are super annoying)

Pffft whwahahaaha!

Nope they're giving you the Kanto Starter for Mega evolution not because the new one "sucks" which is impossible to know since you haven't used the Kalos starter.

Genwunner continue to make me laugh.

Just the Gen 1 and 2 cries are getting reworked but they won't be their animé cries for obvious reason.

How long do you guys think we'll have to wait for the "Z" version or X2/Y2? I really want to play this but i don't think i'll have time in the coming months. I might wait for the second version of the game depending on how long it usually takes to release.
If you're lucky, one year.

Otherwise, up to two years.

Super hyped from all the interviews. I was honestly surprised about the fossil evos getting revealed. I wasn't expecting any more Pokemon to be talked about at all, much less something like the fossils.

Other than that, I found the Snap mention from Polygon to be interesting. Seems like they may be working on a new Snap game down the road which would be perfect for both the Wii U or the 3DS.

Even though there's probably going to be a lot of older gen Pokemon, I'll capture some here and there but ultimately try to play the game with all brand new Pokemon. (This means boxing the Charmander and Torchic I'll have and saving them for post game)
I think first play through of the game should have just new Pokemon in them, it's a fresh start after all and even if you do see and encounter old favorites, you're going to be playing this game a long time into the forseeable future. But you can only experience a new game for the first time once. That's why I'll be making sure I have just Kalos region pokemon on my team up to the elite 4.

Afterwards I'll get my Mew in here (well..actually I guess in December) for post game team. It's been only my post game team since Emerald!

I dunno guys. Im pretty sure all these media outlets are well aware of the capability of past games to allow players to transfer pokes over. I feel like this game is saying all pokes can be caught in game.

If you buy this day one you get so many starters. There's a Kalos starter, then a Kanto starter, and the Torchic that they're giving away. Because of the Torchic (who is my least favorite starter other than Chespin), I'm thinking I'll choose Froakie and then Bulbasaur, so that I can have all three basic types represented. I really like Charmander though, so I might not do that... Squirtle is cool too, but I hate Chespin, though Fennekin is fine- but that means I have two fire types as well. This is going to be hard.

I dunno, either the overworld is incredibly huge, or the areas are pretty densely populated. Actually one of the things I'd like to know before release is how big Kalos is; the official art doesn't make it seem very big and I've been worrying they sacrificed some size relative to other games in the series so they could fit in the plethora of other features the games have. I hope it's at least Johto-sized.

Johto sized? Pretty much every region after it has been larger

But for that to be true it would need to have every legendary Pokemon including event exclusives like Mew and Jirachi. Maybe I'm wrong but I just don't see that happening.
