Personally I think we'll see some DLC in the story. I only say this because this is exactly what happened with Tanya in MKX and NRS has a knack of continuing certain traditions. Also, the guy who is voicing Red Hood thanked the NRS narrative director on Twitter, so that could be a nod that he's in the story. If he is, I imagine it's VERY briefly.

What about an MK vs. DC? I know they tried that a few years ago, but the MK/NRS franchise didn't have the cache back then. They now have 3 successful story modes to their credit. I'm of 2 minds. While it would be interesting to explore this type of crossover with all the good will and resources that didn't exist back then. But at the same time, I could see the MK license having to compromise, given that DC would probably want to keep it to a T rating. If it ever does happen, would it take place within the current timeline, or would it be treated as a special one off? Or will they keep the current model they have going now, with characters crossing over as strictly DLC?
I'm starting to think that the first silhouette might be Spawn. It's clearly based on Atom's CW promotional pose, but since the same silhouette was used twice in Boon's Tweeted image, I'm thinking it's just meant to be a generic placeholder.
The main DC universe characters looks the same in both the trailer and Boon's Tweet (Black Manta, Azrael, Enchantress), while the guests look different between both pictures (Spawn, Rorschach, Raiden). I don't think this is coincidental.

I think you figured it out. But that means one DLC is all DC characters and one will be all guests. Or are you surmising that Raiden isn't actually gonna be a DLC character?
Rorschach is technically a DC character.

Starting to think Raiden's silhouette is a fake out. That the way they teased Baraka (but had an alien pop out of him for MKX) will be repeated here somehow...couldn't they do something similar with Clayface taking on Raiden's form temporarily? Maybe stretchin' because i just don't want him in the game...
Oh what I mean is I think we'll see Red Hood briefly, and maybe Starfire briefly in the story mode. I think odds of seeing Sub in the story mode are zero percent.

I hope you're right. That would be hilarious. Also, I kinda don't want too many MK characters in this game. They have their own game.
The big difference here is that they were already selling the Ultimate pack with an obvious Raiden silhouette in the official ad, whereas iirc, the Baraka to Alien thing was shown in the reveal video months before the DLC was available to purchase. A big fake out is potentially much more problematic when they're already selling it. It's best just to assume they're smart enough not to jerk around their customers like that and it's Raiden.
Makes logistical sense if they could maximize their use of him.

My guess was since beginning the Azrael like figure could be actually Etrigan.
I still say that Patrick Seitz is voicing Azrael. He's voiced Scorpion in every game dating back to MK vs. DCU, and it makes sense that NRS would want to give him another job after developing such a close relationship with him. After all, Scorpion and Azrael are both masked, hooded, fire-themed, blade-wielding assassins. It's sort of like how Robert Englund is voicing Scarecrow after decades of playing another iconic nightmarish villain.

... I never put 2 & 2 together on Homestar Runner's fake-out Halloween costumes & NRS' fake-out silhouettes, but yeah. That's pretty apt. And going back through those old Twitter polls, I feel at least one of these silhouettes is masking a Watchmen character. And probably Spawn, too.
The joke is that this was a teaser for a Homestar Runner Halloween short,
& everyone's silhouetted costume was used in the actual short except Strong Bad, who went as Beetlejuice instead of a Xenomorph
