Insanely epic gnome-invasion in WoW

GAF isn't cynical and boring, well, maybe it is but the types of player events and fan videos that spur from the WoW community are embarrassing at times.

I played the game for years with friends off and on, and while there's plenty of polished content and ways to have fun, shit like this is certainly not it, nor are blood elf rap music videos. Christ.

Isnt he the self proclaimed best pally in the world? I've seen a few of his vids and the guy is way to hyperactive towards wow.

That video is far from epic. If you want epic... 700+ pvp raid I miss world pvp events like this. Because of achievements, these things dont happen anymore. :(
 
If you look closely you can see things moving in that stubble. I think I saw an unidentified microbe on a lounge chair with a Pina Colada in there.
 
ITT GAF uses a fairly amusing, albeit a tad annoying, video as an excuse to continue to pile on its irrationally strong hatred for MMOs.

edit: btw Reese, did you ever get that indie movie up and running? The one you were doing a few years ago?

Word. I am not too fond of MMOs either, but really, some GAFer's elitism can be rather amusing sometimes (in a sad way).

The whole project behind Athene was to imitate the irrational gamer, the proudful gamer, the cranky gamer, etc etc. That's why there is so much dialogue and not enough game action within the video - everyone has seen a massive raid on WoW, why bother with a gnome invasion?

And the reason why it's working is because you were motivated by enough emotion to want to post your own opinion on this video.. even if it meant you were echoing the same message that many other ignorant people have before you.

To those of you saying its parodic - do you think the rest of us are stupid? Parody, just for the record, is not in the intent, but the delivery of an ironic framing around a presented form. Its not a parody. Nor is it up to interpretation that it is or isn't. Its just bad.

What you're trying to say is that this guy is a master of subtle comedy laughing at the peons below him on the evolutionary scale who take WoW seriously. In reality, Athene is a sad sac who got bored of WoW but can't prise himself away from it.

Not only because of his accent, but because this form of humor is typically belgian. It's funny that some people still don't understand that the video is nothing more than satire.

Some people find Athene hilarious and become massive fans, some people just become fans because of how polarized the reactions get and they enjoy seeing the flame fests that come out of it and others... Just hate it :D .

But we love the fans and keep going for them and we stick to the formula that creates such crazy polarization because it just works so well... I just didn't think it'd work so well on Neogaf! (no offence, chill, I'm not framing this as 'haha, we played you', I understand you can just find the videos annoying)

So not liking the video makes you ignorant? Is it REALLY beyond possibility that some people find it neither interesting or funny?
 
WoW has gone from "enjoyable" to "not really my thing" to "Oh god; great that you enjoy it but please don't tell me about it".

And man, that guy (and this video) is annoying. How can people watch that voluntarily? Then again... I'm not listening to podcasts, twitter is an alien concept to me, and facebook is that site on the net where people can upload their DSi photos to. Tch. Damn kids these days better get off my lawn real quick-like.
 
The ONLY reason anyone watches Athene is for Tania. A few months ago they were in the top videos everyday until Youtube made them change the ads promising to see Tania naked if a person subscribed. That said, I would gladly take Tania for my channel and make much monies per month :D

AtheneWins... only with Tania.

Actually, that didn't hurt our views at all. What changed is that YouTube's main 'videos' page now shows 'most popular' instead of 'most viewed', based on an algorithm that nobody knows the specifics of. A lot of YouTube partners have fallen into obscurity with it. We're not suffering much from it though. I mean, it was great having the platform to be able to get 1mill views with vids, especially since the goal is always to expand our reach for things like net neutrality activism and I Power, but on the other hand... We've built up more than a big enough audience to get by on our own in terms of impact and revenue.
 
I was wondering when Athene was going to show up again. Even though the guy is one giant overly-obvious parody, as a fellow Paladin-player I feel some sort of sad obligation to watch his shit whenever it's making the rounds.
 
I sort've appreciate the character of Athene but the comedy is lost in execution. Also, watching anything WoW related makes me feel sick to the core.
 
Since when cant a guy be excited about something he put together? if i got 300 people to jump when i say so i would be too.

Im pretty sure half the hate would drop away if he did not have that horrible accent:lol
