Inside used a real life human skull to create its music and sound

Why can't people be creative, experimental or just plain mess around with stuff without being called edgy? It's a lazy, thoughtless critique. In fact, knowing they did this opens up some new realms of interpretation.

It's probably more edgy to complain about things being edgy than most of the things people now consider edgy.

Yeah, this isn't edgy. It's an interesting technique, and if you listen to how the tracks sound through the skull vs. without it, the process yielded some very distinct results.

The reason some may consider this edgy is because not only is the desired effect not achievable by recording through an empty skull (representing how things sound inside your head) but you can achieve the effect you got with the skull through conventional recording techniques. The skull is completely unnecessary except for the fact that it is unconventional and a skull.

Because it id edgy under both common uses of the word (edgey wasn't always a negative phrase) do it's likely the person UN question put in his will you my skull as a instrument fir your game so you can use as a marketing point.

Hell would you like your skull to be used for this without your probable consent. I know I certainly wouldn't

This looks like a case of an eccentric artsy person doing pointless artsy things only because it looks artsy.

Then again, i'm not a sound expert and the game was one of the best aural experiences for me so maybe i'm wrong.

Can you have consent when you are dead? People are crazy with this stuff... Your corpse isn't you. It is incredibly silly to be offended by this sort of thing.

I really doubt he acquired the skull through 9llicit means. I mean, he lives in Denmark for crying out loud, that's not something you get a hold of without proper permission.

I have no doubt he legally got after the person or their family donated body, I'm just doubting they had this in mind.

Depending on the country and to certain degree, yes what do you think a will is. Same reason a hospital often can't use your body for transplants unless you or your familh opt in or out depending on the country. That's not to say this was illegal but it's one of those fringe cases where I wonder if the person would have accept this specifically if they knew

I get it, it's really pointless though.

Why does there need to be a point? What often times fuels creative people is just curiosity about, "what would happen if..." regardless of whether people perceive a point or not. Sometimes it's just about process and experience.

Plus the point was explained in the article.

It's not like they recorded hamster farts in a toaster because teeheehee. Recording through a human skull makes perfect aesthetic sense with the feeling and motifs of the game. So why the hell not?

So are the Flaming Lips going to distribute the soundtrack using some of their unsold skull USB sticks?

Cracks me up there are concerns of insensitivity around this, especially considering some of the other things skulls have been used for.

The effects are pretty noticeable, and while I'm pretty sure he could've achieved the same results using more "traditional" methods, how would you even know how it sounds if you haven't even attempted to do it first?

So I came across this article on PC Gamer .

There is a picture but ill leave it on the page for the squeamish among us (it's not that bad).

Really interesting idea, I do wonder about how exactly you go about acquiring such a thing though...

There are websites that specialize in selling human skeletons. The skull in the article doesn't look cleaned though leading to option two... A derelict graveyard. Particularly with open mausoleums.

I love when people try to devise new ways of recording familiar sounds. Very interesting idea.

You're dead
Not like you're using it for anything.
