Instances in which DLC prices seem off?

Microsoft's DLC.

800 for one of the Halo 3 map packs when you can get halo 3: ODST for about the same price?

LOL come on MS.

Edit: I'm pretty sure most Map Pack DLC are created (or finished) after the main game is done and shipped, shouldn't the devs (and publishers that are funding the project) get paid for making the content?

Pretty much all of it.
I find it especially annoying that prices don't drop a lot of the times. At this point is Namco selling many Darth Vader/Yoda unlocks in SC4?

Yes, I know why it costs that much

Huh, screw it. I decided to bite. I realized I had about 10 bucks in best buy coupons. Came out to a whopping 10.81 for the PS3 version. I normally don't double dip... but when I do I'm a cheap bastard. Looking forward to playing it again, and the added missions. Good fun will soon be had.

And yes Mungular, valve is pretty amazing. But y'know. Hats.

DLC has been done well in so very few cases this gen. 99% of it is just exploitative, overpriced and has next to zero value.

The best bit of DLC Ive played was Pixeljunk Monsters Encore. That was perfect.

The worst DLC Ive (reluctantly) bought in order to keep playing with friends was the 1200 spacebuck map packs for MW2. Never again.

Depends how you think about it. Even though most people are happy with the fallout DLC for $10, think about how much you got for the $60 in comparison. Of course, the work done needs to be paid somehow, but still.

Castlevania: LoS. $10 for a shitty add-on chapter... and there's a second one that's even worse which I've yet to purchase.

This.

I just finished Castlevania over the weekend after buying it for $12.99 on the Gamefly sale and I was excited for more content until I saw that each chapter was $10. Even if I bought the game full price, there is no way I could bring myself to pay $20 for 2 extra chapters.

3600 for skins + 2400 for mostly on-disc content.

Because Cliffy was going hungry.

You should learn what your talking about before you comment.

3600 gets you 107 skins, thats 27p per skin. The content wasnt locked because epic wanted to make money but rather microsoft seen that money could be made and requested it to be locked. 2400 gets you 4 Full sized content packs, While the first 3 maps and characters are on disc. All leaked/rumoured future DLC isnt.

Weapons skins are only on the disc so that they sync across consoles.

Im by no means defending the practice in fact if you look back in the gears 3 OT you will see i was one of the people strongly against it, However 27p per skin isnt a bad deal even if the content is on disc and 4 packs of DLC for 2400 isnt either. Even if one pack is on disc you can write that off as the 33% you save.

DLC is always optional and theres always a market for it, Its no more to do with publishers being "greedy" than any thing else you pay for in most cases.

Everything except

Story based bethesda/bioware/rockstar content.

COD map packs.

You don't have to buy them, but the fact remains for millions of people those 5 maps are going to be the only thing they buy/play for 1-2 months. If anything they are getting a steal at that price.

DLC is a great thing when it is an addition for a game you love. I'll buy any Halo DLC on day one because I will get the money worth from all the playing I'll do. However even though I like playing Forza, paying the prices they ask for car packs seems outrageous to me.

Yeah, it was the only way the engine could sync them to other users and its 27p per skin. There also optional
What does that mean?

And being optional doesn't mean it's not shitty. Especially since it's not being used to provide other free content like Valve selling TF2 hats instead of maps (and you can still get the hats free)

If you bought a weapon skin and no one else did they wouldnt see it. Weapon skin DLC wasnt a choice epic made it was a choice microsoft made, They originally wanted all the content to be unlockable via various ways.

gears of war 3 weapon skins are so freaking overpriced.

but they were implemented after the game was finished, so they have to recoup going over budget

am I doing this right Epic supporters?

.......

How did CoD manage to include many different skins for their guns with out having to sell them?

I don't see how it makes sense to say "The only way people could see your skin is if they sold it"

..

Cod skins arnt DLC are they?

Their not saying the only way they could see it is if they sold it, Their saying the only way they could see it is if it was already on the non-purchasers discs.

Epic wanted these skins to be unlockable that however didnt work out, microsoft seen money could be made and decided it would be for the best if certain skins where locked.

Dont get me wrong, its a crappy tactic and i dont approve of it for one second. Just dont be so quick to jump at a company when it wasnt all there doing.

The way i see DLC is.

Anything created in the games devs cycle should be playable with every edition of the game sold.

Anything created after they can charge what they want for.
