Intellegent Systems underway with Wii U title (SMTxFE? Something else?)

I would like more Rhythm Heaven, but I'm hoping for something bigger. Maybe a new RPG that is not Paper Mario?

Well, the issue is (at least for me) is that we've only had 2 proper Paper Mario's in about 13-14 years.

So I'm not feeling any fatigue currently and I want a new one.

It's time

Him not being Wonder Action was a completely missed opportunity

now that the grunt of 3DS games have released from 1t party, I imagine majority of nintendo's 1st party are working on stuff for the wii U, the 3DS had probably alot more 1st party support than any of the previous handhelds

IS is always working on multiple projects at the same time. Just because they announce one project doesn't mean that is the only project they're working on.

After how bad Sticker Star was I hope it's Advance Wars. I know someone who'd instabuy a U if they made a new AW for it.

Yeah, I understand. I just don't think any of the Paper Mario actually needed Mario. but to be quite honest, I wouldn't complain if it ends up being Paper Mario after all.

Miyamoto has gotten a lot of blame for that.

Wait, maybe there is a silver lining. Consider if Sticker Star was going to "happen" one way or another. Let's say it was going to exist. Maybe it's good that the 3DS got it, so if the Wii U gets the next Paper Mario, it will hopefully be good and more RPGish. And Sticker Star sold millions on the 3DS so the Paper Mario brand looks strong.

Yup...silver lining.

As long as it is experimental as SPM and SS they have ML for regular RPGS no need to have two

Please no.

Two RPG lines (with completely contrasting styles, both aesthetically and mechanics wise) coming out infrequently on two different systems (3DS and U) would be fine.

I wonder if they were overthinking Paper Mario recently.

I thought it said IS in the teaser.
However, after playing both my first FE and SMT this year, I'd rather see Atlus doing it...

IS is listed at the end, with Nintendo and Atlus. But the beginning is a nice long "ATLUS presents."

Can't say anything for sure based off of it, of course, but I'm fairly confident Atlus is the main dev on the project. That would be my preference as well, but I have no idea what to expect. I like the DeSu games more than FE, but as far as actual strategy goes I prefer Advance Wars over either (which is IS). DeSu with FE waifu mechanics might be pretty amazing. But that is not what I would expect from SMTxFE.

The only thing we know for sure is that Nintendo SPD Production Group No. 2 and Atlus are working on the title. Hitoshi Yamagami confirmed he was the producer of the title and that it would take place in modern times. Yamagami and SPD Production Group No. 2 also worked with Atlus on that Nintendo published picture snapping e-shop game, it is likely he heard the proposal first as well.

Ugh, this is what has me worried about the WiiU, if only Mario games can sell enough to justify development costs, are they okay with underperforming games left and right (but then again, they'll need those games should they wish to drive a more diverse install base).

Oh, and sign me up for the people who want a real Paper Mario in the vein of Paper Mario 64 and Thousand Year Door. But after that, they can make any non-Mario game they want (crap I'm such a hypocrite for wanting another Mario game).

Re: The bolded part. You missed the point of that statement. What it meant was that they were in a position where they could make a Fire Emblem game on the Wii U and need to sell a reasonable amount for it to be 'viable'. That would suggest that the game could break even with fewer sales, and be profitable at 700,000 copies to a point of reasonable return on investment. Or at the worst, it could be that much to break even. Fire Emblem: Awakening has sold over 1 million copies, and it was sold out in North America at one point; They will have made note of it, and seen growth potential for that series. NeoGAF often criticises and makes dumb-assed 'Welcome to 2006' statements, but these are the types of lessons that they learned; While it wasn't an easy or smooth transition to HD game development, they did it in the right way - one which can make these games, keep budgets under control and (most probably) doesn't result in studio closures. Truthfully, many sections of the industry would do well to learn from them, but there's a very rotten movement and a faction of people which want to portray them as complete incompetents. I wouldn't worry; they'll be fine, and you'll see other IPs.

Do you remember how to press A to jump?

Are you sure you remember how to press A to jump?

Oh, really? Let me explain it to you anyway. Press A to jump.

Now repeat. Press A to jump. Now do it again.

Did you understand how to press A to jump?

Are you sure you understand how to press A to jump?

Now, do you remember how to use an item?

So, what other franchise besides FE, Paper Mario and Advance Wars is IS associated with?

It'd be cool if they did something new, but I expect Paper Mario U.

They're doing Band Bros. on 3DS now, plus they've been co-devs on WarioWare/Game & Wario and they also do Pushmo.

While I do believe any Advance Wars would do far better on handheld rather than console, and while I think if there is another AW game it will be on 3DS, I cannot helpt but to want cross compatible AW games for 3DS and Wii U.

I'm hoping for that but it hasn't too long since Sticker Star. I honestly don't think it's Paper Mario yet.

The Thousand-Year Door is my favorite Mario game of all-time. There are so many new and unique characters, the art direction is superb, the writing is brilliant, and the soundtrack contains a number of memorable songs.

They could be working on the game for release in another year or two. It's nearly been a year since SS was released and a large part of its development was done by Vanpool.

Rhythm Heaven please.

The gamepad would be a great addition to the game. Imagine using bottons for some minigames and the touchscreen for others. 100 levels, BELIEVE!

Why am I the only one hoping for this?

Having just played through the DS one just recenetly.

YES

For the love of god make a sequal on 3ds and Wii U

This is the problem with the industry people refuse to accept some change and experimentation and when it does happen it is bashed even if it is not going the dudebro route

Didn't Radiant Dawn start out life as a GCN game? I know Super Paper Mario did as well.

I'm kind of curious; did IS release anything for the Wii that didn't begin development on the GCN?
Despite popular belief, Radiant Dawn was always a Wii game. IS started development on it before they got Wii devkits, but the intention was to always release it there.

Everything is explained in this interview. Check it out, it's a pretty good read.

I accept it. Nintendo experiments with their IPs all the time, contrary to what some people believe. Like in mainline Zeldas and 3D Marios. There's a fair amount experimentation in each entry (except maybe Galaxy to Galaxy 2).

Sometimes it works well, like for Zeldas, sometimes it doesn't like recent Paper Marios. Such is the business.

Didn't know that, interesting.

Experimentation is okay when it doesn't take a really good series and turn it into hot garbage: see Sticker Star.

I believe that Intelligent Systems developed two WarioWare games (Smooth Moves for Wii and D.I.Y. Showcase for WiiWare) as well as Eco Shooter: Plant 530, a WiiWare game.

Edit: I also remember that Intelligent Systems worked on the Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary game for Wii in some way.
