They will have 22 playable games there.

We will be at the big @E3 video game convention in L.A. next week showing off Amico for the first time with 22 playable games!! This is monumental! No one was expecting this from us. We'll also be showing off 5 different color combinations of the console! Stay tuned!

Awesome-- I loooooved our Intellivision when I was growing up so I can look past the terrible aesthetics of the console itself and logo. I think it's a great idea overall, just hope the execution is there.

Well, they showed everything they have so I think it’s good for them not showing up.

Nobody can handle the power of Intellivision!

On the release of the Amico:

“We're 16 months out. We're launching on 10-10, 2020, so our big E3 is next year, big booth with people playing 100 machines, and all that … Next E3 we're going to be blowing it out, and you're going to be like, ‘Oh my god.’ It’ll be mind-blowing. It’s something very, very excited. We’ll absolutely be doing an E3 press conference next year. This is why I want you guys to come here and talk to me. This isn't a Kickstarter project. This is the real deal. We have 600 years of video game experience on our core executive team. Six hundred years.

I'm kind of excited for this. I love the simplicity of design and branding (higher chance of succeeding).

They know exactly what they're trying to be and I have a lot of respect for their vision. They're going full Blue Ocean:

If you think about it, there's 200 million hardcore gamers in the world. We’re going to let Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo, and now Google, fight for those 200 million gamers. For us, there's three billion gamers. They just don't call themselves gamers, they play their phone every day. The reality is, they’re 55 percent of the entire $140 billion dollar industry.

It's almost scary how similar this verbiage is to the "heart of the gamer" message from Iwata in 2005 and the buildup to the Wii and the DS. I'm not claiming this will be a similar breakout hit, but goodness, all the same signs are here:

- stupid-simple controller
- stupid-simple message
- inexpensive in every way, but not low-quality
- trying to expand core gaming and meet gamers where they're at

I would totally buy an Intellivision. My dad had one and I spent an entire summer playing a Casino game and the most awesome (at the time) D&D game. I remember the way the discs on the controllers felt to this day and how clicky the keypad buttons were (almost tinny). It was a weird, wonderful system.

Reminder of their announcement trailer.

It's hard not to root for them: all games are exclusives, $3 - 8 per game, no DLC and no in-app purchases, a pair of controllers included, the system is the charging dock, and it's $140-180.

Game list includes Archon, R-Type, Super Burgertime, Earthworm Jim, and Lode Runner.

Has anyone found any articles/info about their E3 showing? I know it was behind closed doors/appointment only but I'm dyiiiiing to hear/see anything.

Same! I just looked about 30m ago and could not find any impressions of the system, any footage of games, or anything, other than the reveal of the 5 system colors.

Speaking of which, I kinda have to go with that woodgrain kitsch. :lollipop_smiling_hearts:

I didn't see anything new from E3 either.

There was this though.

In other news, Intellivision said it is opening a European headquarters in Nuremberg, Germany, and it has hired Hans Ippisch as president.

Seven studios based in Bavaria are working on games for Intellivision Amico. The office will engage with developers throughout Europe and currently seven Bavarian studios are working on 11 different titles.

Ippisch has shaped the German gaming and media industry since 1986 and is known for his success in game development and transforming a traditional publisher to a leading digital media company. He currently is a board member of the Association of Magazine Publishers in Bavaria (VZB) and is CEO of the Computec Media Group. Prior to Computec, he founded HAIP software which developed and published computer games.

“With Intellivision Amico we will bring social fun back to the living room. We are really fortunate to have Hans Ippisch on our team, as Europe is one of the worlds’ top gaming markets,” said Tallarico, in a statement. “With Hans’ unique experience and a base central to Bavaria, he is close to European developers for collaborative games that embrace our mission of bringing people together for side-by-side incredible gaming fun.”

“We’re thrilled to be working with Tommy and other industry icons to develop new and reimagined legendary titles for Intellivision Amico,” notes Ippisch. “This will be the first time ever that launch titles for a new console will be produced in our region.”

“The games family in Bavaria is continuously growing. With Intellivision Entertainment Europe GmbH, we are welcoming another key industry player in Nuremberg. The decision for the Intellivision European headquarters to be in Bavaria shows how strong the Bavarian Free State is for games development,” said Judith Gerlach, Bavaria´s Digital Minister. “Looking back at 10 years of successful games funding in Bavaria, I am pleased that the Confederation of Germany has shown that it sees the value of games in society with the start of a funding program as well. The federal funding will also improve the industry in Bavaria.”

I’m actually pretty hyped to hear more about this system. If they are able to pull a super (and I mean super) cheap virtual console for their past games I will fall in love with it.

Emulators just don’t feel right on its games.

I like the philosophy behind the system. They want to capture the casual market that now lingers on mobile devices, which are as Tommy says, very solitary uninviting experiences. According to him 25% will be retro titles and remakes, 25% sports titles, 25% original IPs, and the last 25% will be casual titles like puzzle games, board games, etc. Every week one new game gets released that has met Intellivision's quality standards. It's a breath of fresh air I think.

This was quite a nice interview I think:

The sports titles in particular will be huge if they're cheap. Simple, casual sports games have played a key role in every successful console. The high number of puzzle games and boardgames is perfect, since those are pretty fun to play on a tablet but would be even better on a TV in many cases.

I am sorry to ask this (English is not my first language). What does Pachter mean with "mensch"? In Germany, "Mensch" means human. So, am I correct to assume that Pachter meant that the CEO wasn't only talking in PR speak?

Same here, hehe. It's probably something complimentary, but I also have no clue of the context.
