Yeah, I wanted to include this bit as well. At the time it was named after exactly what it was, a digital arcade. Even after they transitioned to more original content they still tried to do the Arcade Game Room, though the logistics of that service was a bit much for them to handle.
Another thread where wanna be comedians throw out 'witty' 'jokes' rather than actually discuss things. Lets hope people get it out their systems on the first few pages.
As for XBLA I could see MS bringing it all under one banner. Having GoD,XBLA and Indie basically put some games into 'ghettos' in some cases. It goes into my other point that if something has become clear too me this gen is that a lot of people don't see DL games as 'real'. or 'worth it' price wise.
I mean 1200 points is not that much especially for a good game, if you really,really can't afford a 1200 point game then boy what can I say to you. If value for money is your beef. Then MS at least gives you the chance to demo every single XBLA and Indie game. So if a game doesn't appeal don't buy, simple.

I'm done with paying for Xbox Live, so in turn I guess any future Xbox Console (unless the service is free). It's not value for money. I don't even have to imagine this, as it's reality.
The XBLA group would have missed their revenue target but a massive amount were it not for Minecraft last year.
XBLA (and PSN) have been declining for a while.
Paying for p2p in 2013 is as inexcusable as slow download speeds, not having cross game chat, no demos for downloadable games and selling PS2 backwards compatibility for $10 per game with PS2 "Classics".
MS has done some shitty stuff this gen but let's stop pretending that it's the only one that did things that have "no excuse".
In absolute terms 1200 points may or may not be okay. In relative terms it's way too much.
For the price of 1200 spacebucks in real money you can get AAA games on steam/greenman gaming sales after a few months. Or you can get several games-of-the-decade on gog.com.
It's simply too much for an impulse purchase, especially compared to what else you can get for that amount of money.
Bingo...not sure how or when Gaf became this way..but its really hard to stomach any MS thread,either if its a really negative rumor or something random like an app for xbox.

I wonder if MS will offer free games with the subscription, like PS+. Just relying on sticking stuff behind a paywall isn't going to cut it. They need to add value and incentive instead of it just being a toll you have to pay for otherwise basic functionality. And I say this as a person that has had gold for most of this generation.

I'm still holding out on the reveal, but no amount of Halo or Gears will convince me to buy a Durango for more than $150. I'll either switch to PS4, or just put gaming on the backburner until the price has gone down to a reasonable level.

Thats what Microsoft should be doing next gen but I think they arrogant enough to just stick with what has worked this generation if not further restrict basic functions to add further value to the subscription.

When you say stuff like, "Xbox has been getting hammered since 2001," that is fine. I'm just pointing out that that's been the case for every console since then. I think some posters here are under the impression that certain consoles are getting attacked, but GAF's ire is not directed at one company or console. The negative press surrounding the Durango has a lot to do with this. And who is to blame for that? It's certainly not the gamer.
And Sony WILL charge for PS4 online play next generation. The writing has been on the wall for a long time.
If Sony charges for online (looking very likely), I'm sure there'll be a "good reason" for it.
Sony are getting smarter. They're building the PS Plus base for a reason.
the larger the base, the less people to complain about online play behind a paywall they've already been paying for.

That doesn't make sense. When there is an increasing number of people paying for PS+ because of it's value, then why would Sony think of putting multiplayer behind a paywall? I don't see why they would change it, it's an important feature of the Playstation brand and people pay for PS+ despite MP being free.

I love how fans suddenly play up the victim complex. Nintendo fans do it, MS fans do it and Sony fans do it as some kind of defense mechanism. Its pretty simple. Unlike XBL people pay for PS plus due to the actual service, i.e free games. The number one reason people pay for XBL is to play online.
While that's fine a lot of times I know exactly how a MS thread will go so I only read the news and go and do something else after that. Which sucks because there's not much room for discussion when the first post is a witty one-liner followed by a bunch of "first post nailed it" or people who make the same joke but worded differently because, yeah, that's clever. Not saying MS doesn't deserve to be slapped but when you own 4 platforms and the threads for one of them is an absolute shit-show it's annoying, especially because I only post of GAF and going to an Xbox exclusive forum is waaay too far in the other direction. He's right. They're going to charge. It won't be free for the PS4, but I feel it will be cheaper than what Microsoft will charge. They'll probably intentionally undercut Microsoft on the monthly price.

As long as the OS and Online are well integrated, and they continue to give free games and discounts I'll continue to pay for Plus.
