Interesting way to eject a PS4 disc

Screw the face button or the menu, I found a better way to eject PS4 discs. Squeeze the console.

I have been trying to get to the bottom of why my PS4 constantly beeps at me trying to eject a phantom disc. I have found out while trying to put the cover back on my running PS4 that putting pressure on the bottom of the console just a little behind the front foot will cause a disc eject. It works without fail, actually more reliable than the face button.

Does anyone here know the anatomy of the PS4 well enough to explain what is going on? How does squeezing the case actually cause the eject? I feel that if I can explain this I might be able to explain the whole eject issue. I run my PS4 vertically yet still get the eject issue so it can't simply be all down to the weight of the unit causing the feet to apply enough pressure.

It's probably a fail safe to prevent system damage. With pressure on the console and a spinning disk inside, it could break the disc drive motor, so when the system registers tension in the motor it immediately ejects the disc?

That sounds safe

Haha yeah but I am not talking about much pressure. Just enough to flex the case. Originally I was just using enough pressure to hold the console in place while putting the cover back on, I was not trying to squeeze the console at all.

I've actually noticed this, myself. I feel like I can barely touch the console before it beeps at me for some reason or another. And I move mine back and forth between two places fairly often.

Obviously trying to emulate one of the PSP's finest features.

Mine used to be like that, but I have to apply a little more pressure to them now.

Mine randomly spat a disc out yesterday when it was completley off.
And yep its the front foot. its too squidgy the slightest bit of pressure and it ejects the disc ive had to kind of push the fron foot back a bit.

Bit of a design flaw.

Might send it back as its done it a few times now.

The gentlest of taps underneath the eject button is more effective to eject then the actual front of it.

God I remember this. I personally don't twist my controllers or handhelds that hard. Still funny.

OT, my guess is that the connector for the drive is on the bottom of the console and by squeezing it you're shorting the "eject" connectors.

I had this same issue...the easiest way to fix it, is to remove the rubber "foot" in the front-middle-bottom-center part of the console (if it is laying horizontally)...you can easily put it back in...but once you remove that, you wont have this issue anymore.

I'm of the "applying unneeded pressure to electronics is a bad idea" train of thought, but whatever floats your boat.

My favorite way to get carts out of my 3DS is to throw it at a wall, so I know how you feel OP

Pro tip on how to remove Sega Genesis carts: kick them hard. The game will safely dislodge itself from the system, and you don't even have you use your hands!

I usually take mine
i don't have one
turn it disc slit facing down and bang it on the corner of the tv stand until the disc comes out!

My PS4 would sometimes eject the game disc while I'm playing a game.

It would close the game outta nowhere, go back into the PS4 menu and eject the disc like it's got a mind of it's own. If I try to insert the disc again it won't accept the disc and the PS4 would make a weird ejecting noise.

Every time this has happened, I just turn off the PS4 unplug it and remove the top cover, put it back on again, plug the PS4 back in, start it up and everything is back to normal.

Mine did this too, but it is vertical so it wasn't the foot. Tightening the manual disc eject screw fixed it.
Like so, except tightening it: https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5061/~/ps4:-manually-eject-a-stuck-disc

It does not fix it. At some stage the issue will come back (mine lasted about 3 weeks after adjusting the screw). I have yet to find a permanent fix, though currently the physical button on my PS4 has stopped working all together for some reason, so I am hoping my issues have gone away.

Gag your PS4's mouth.
