Finally got around to watching this movie Beautiful to look at. Great acting from Matt. But boy it seemed just hollow and seemed to have little to say. Its almost like the sole purpose of the movie was to pay some homage to 2001.

Biggest gripes I had:

1. Incredibly, incredibly predictable.
2. Sappy. Its almost insulting that Cooper got back to his daughter problem free to say goodbye face to face.
3. Somewhat baffling internal logic. I'm perplexed at the world and cannot suspend my disbelief that some weird blight is fucking up our food supply but LOL we can go into space and hibernate for years at a time no problem.

The movie was pretty to look at, at least.

I just watched it for the first time yesterday. I didn't like it that much either. The space sequences were fantastic, but the rest of it just felt flat to me. They could have trimmed about an hour out of the film and streamlined it to make it better.

My wife and I agree. I want to iterate I loved the music, acting (most if it), visual effects, and cinematography. But what the OP mentions is what makes me think it's over-rated.

It's great just for the docking scene alone and that music during said scene...*goosebumps*. The whole damn soundtrack/score is great actually.

I think people were disappointed in thinking this would be a really interesting science fiction movie with some respected scientific theories and methodology. I always came to it as a love story with a science epic backdrop. I love the film.

The ending would have been much better if he was converted by necessity into a 5th dimensional being and could not go back to 4D space. His daughter could "know" Cooper was responsible for the information and be at peace with his permanent disappearance. But noooo.

The love story between the possessed tractors and the anomaly in the house came off as very human, quite a departure for Nolan.

I was expecting some crazy dramatic moment when they totally fucked up and spent a little too long on the first planet. Instead the guy who had been waiting for decades was like. I studied the black hole and they were like, high five bro good job. He didn't seem traumatized at all.

I wasn't a fan either. It didn't really do anything for me, which is strange since I absolutely love all three of Nolan's Batman movies, The Prestige, Memento, and even Insomnia. Inception is another flick of his that I wasn't super fond of.

Also I wonder if "that" .gif will show up on the first page. I bet so.

Half the movie was brilliant with the interplay between the grand scale of saving humanity itself vs. being there for his daughter. The moment all the BS sci-fi entered and the predictable get back to your daughter crap started I disliked the movie from there. A missed opportunity but excellent production values and well worth watching. Perhaps I'll enjoy it more a second time...

One of these days a high quality sci-fi movie, like Interstellar, will get the final act spot on.

I liked everything but the story.

Story was nonsensical and unravels at the slightest bit of scrutiny, and I just can't really enjoy a movie if the story is garbage. I considered going into my gripes at length but my lunchbreak is only 40 minutes long.

Ditto the docking scene, that Was incredible, as was the music.

I don't ever recommend it to friends though. If you want nolan movie magic, just rewatch the prestige.

The ending is rushed for sure. Finally reunited with your daughter, you meet your huge extended family and then you jet off to save Anne Hathaway?

I liked most of it, except for the sappy ending. Yet another movie that really hits the audience over the head with the cliche "love conquers all." That made the first Matrix movie weaker as well. It didn't help when McConaughey's character blurted it out like it was some sort of tag line.

What separates it from the other Sci-fi movies?

Gravity and Interstellar are big budget space films. We don't get a whole lot of those, so I appreciate the effort, even if dialogue drags the movie down some.
