Damn getting an iphone 3gs soon, could I just resize all these pix or can I use them on their native rez?

You don't need to resize them, you can just put them on your 3GS and use them as if they were native rez.

For IOS4 on the 3G, can you change the wallpaper on the home screen? I don't seem to find that option but I see that on the new iPhone 4. Is that exclusive for the new one?

Wow, wallpapers look amazing on the new Retina Display. It's incredible to see the difference between an iPhone 4 and an older gen iPhone.

And no, the option to change the Home Screen wallpaper is not in the 3G version of iOS 4.0.

For Gaga-GAF, here's a quick pair of wallpapers I made earlier this week in preparation for the iPhone 4. The first one is your lock, the second is your home screen. I hope I'm not the only one who plans to always have the two compliment each other :lol

Thanks a bunch to everyone who uploaded these wallpapers. Going to have a hell of a time deciding which ones to use!

So l thought l would mess around with an image of the ibook case

It looks not to bad if you are into that sort of thing, the app icons start to go on the piss a bit after the top two shelves, l might just have the top two shelves with app icons on and then put a picture of the family on another shelf in a nice frame, maybe a glass of beer and some other bits of junk or something :)

Maybe better going for the 640 x 960 image for both iphone4 & 3gs then you can move it around when you set it and you can get it looking ok.

Wow, what a great idea. I never would have thought of it. Gotta pull out my near-worthless photoshop skills and take a crack at that. Thanks!

Could someone blow this up to 960x640?

one internet cookie, if you do[/QUOTE]

blowing it up to 960 x 640 won’t make it look better on your screen since the original is already lower res. you’re not making it sharper

and the iphone can blow it up itself at a similar quality level if you leave it as is and select it as a wallpaper.

you need to find a higher quality source

Some of the first trickling walls i'm converting to iPhone 4 res, probably many more to come. I think i'm going to start a Flickr set like I did with the iPad walls, but anyway;

Some others (click for full res);

That Six Feet Under one is epic.

Edit:

I was randomly searching for New York Giants wallpaper in Google Images in exactly the iPhone 4 resolution and found this:

Have around 400 coming tomorrow, most of them turned out good using automated methods, didn't go through one by one like I did with the iPad walls but most are perfect. Really hope Apple adds a wallpaper cycle feature that changes your wall every time you turn it on/off or by preset time intervals. What a joy it would be if you had hundreds of walls, eyes would never get bored. :p

Wood is great :D ......this one obviously has the effect of making the icons look like they are recessed into the wood

No, but here's one I whipped up;

Anyway, I got my Flickr set up now with almost 400 iPhone 4 wallpapers on it, here's some favs (click for hi-res);

Some more still on the way, but that's pretty much it for now. These are basically the iPad wallpapers (some of you may remember) I did, but optimized for iPhone 4 res (i.e. resized & cropped).

These are amazing but why do 80% of these show up as '?' boxes on my iPod touch safari? I mean I can click them and see the image, but it doesn't load automatically.

I like the idea of the recessed app icons in the wood, but there are a couple problems:

1. The background is static, so swiping between pages feels weird because the icons fall out of their little cubbies and a new set replaces them. The feeling of being "recessed" is kind of lost when you scroll and it kind of kills it for me.

2. The names of the apps themselves kind of play second fiddle to the app icons. The actual name area isn't given any kind of connection to the recess, so they feel disjointed from the apps themselves. For some reason it's kind of hard to look at both the icon and the name at the same time.

I've gone back to just the straight wood one, but I love the concept of the recessed one, just not sure if it could work for me due to issue 1 up there.

Great contributions across the board, great thread.

Yeah l take your points

Personally for me the swiping isn't a real problem and l like the way the icons drop into place. lts out of my control anyway, the wallpaper stays static and thats it.

It would be kinda restricting and difficult to give the names some connection with the icon due to varying name lengths and the amount of space you have to work with, but maybe yes something could be done.

Another version of bookshelf that I found on a site linked in the iPhone 4 thread. I dig the spotlights, but I'm not sure how it looks on the phone yet (I don't sync at work):

And the matching lock screen:

Okay, I thought this thread was already awesome because of some of the pics, but then stumbled across all the NIN and HDA ones...fucking awesome.

Looks AWESOME imo, only fault I can find is that if you have too many pages (3+) the page dots might be a bit over shinned by the white spotlights at the bottom. Other than that, perfect.

Also love the frosted glass Apple logo lock screen, really cool effect imo.

How is iPhone 4 wallpapers management? Photos management in 3G/3GS is terrible - need to sync with iPhoto, or select a specific folder on your HDD.

same as before. you manage on the PC/Mac, then sync to iPhone. Anything you save on the iPhone gets dumped in the photo roll.
