iPhone 5C |OT|

Wish the 5s came in the 5c's form factor. Yeah I said it.

I agree, feels much more comfortable with the soft, rounded corners. I imagine the iPhone 6 will be like it, possibly thinner than the 5s.

It makes you wonder, how much thinner can these get?

Have had my iPhone 5C (Green 16 GB) for over a week, but I just got it set up on T-mobile prepaid. Switched to the $30 plan with unlimited texting and data, 100 minutes talk. Was on Verizon with unlimited data, texts, and 450 (I think) minutes with a Droid Bionic and was paying something like $80+ a month.

I picked up the 5C specifically because of the color. I'm extremely over consumer electronics being Black/White/Gray rectangles. Green? Fuck yeeees. I'm now buying electronics based on principle, I don't want black rectangles so I'm not buying them. I was very close to picking up a Moto X because of Moto Maker, but the exclusivity and carrier branding turned me off completely.

The performance difference from the 5/5C to the 5S doesn't bother me whatsoever. 64bit is pointless until we break 3GB of RAM which is a ways off for iDevices, and my iPad Mini (based on the iPad 2 tech which is older than my Bionic) still works great. Updated to iOS 7 with no problems, and reading, browsing and even games work great on it still.

The 5C feels like its screaming compared to my Bionic, unbelievably responsive. With my original Droid and the Bionic I've had to put them on life support their last 6 months of life just to keep them functional, my Bionic won't even launch Chrome anymore without seizing.

And I actually love multitasking in iOS compared to Android, not having to boot up a task killer to close Pandora when it randomly hangs for 10 minutes on boot is fantastic. And I no longer have to punch my phone for it to recognize that I'm pressing the screen.

I love my 5C right. Green is best.

We can be bros. My experience is pretty close to yours. The battery on my old phone got so bad that it would be dead in less than an hour doing nothing more than reading Cracked. Just the other day, I left the house with my battery around 25% on my 5C (also green!) and it had no problem streaming "South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut" on Netflix over LTE.

The new task manager in iOS7 makes managing open apps a breeze compared to earlier versions.

The battery seems pretty stellar on the 5C. My Bionic would be down to around 50% battery when I get home from work, using Pandora on the way to and from work (about an 1.2 hours in total use) and reading stuff online throughout the day. That is with charging it while in the car, so it would actually gain battery while I was streaming Pandora.

The same usage of the 5C (with charging in the car) and I ended up with 93% battery before bed, and I also played some games her and there which I never did on my Bionic. The real battery test is today, headed to a theme park for the day so I will probably burn through a lot of battery waiting in line for rides.

Picked green up last night. Loving it. Got home and my wife offers a snarky : "you and that color..."
Green is pretty nice. It'd be one of my choices. I'd love to get a 5C, but that 64-bit and fingerprint sensor are calling me. If it were just a bit cheaper I'd bite. I'd just love to pick my color.

Oh man, what entices me is the slow motion and burst mode camera.

I want to see what you can do with panning rapidly around something moving and playing back at 4x slo mo.

I know there are post processing and apps that can replicate it, but hardware high fps and built in sounds killer to me.

Has any one bought, or seen someone else, with the 5c and Apple case? If yes, which combination and how does it look?

None work

What I find odd is that there is no black plastic choice for the 5C, it would be a little like the 3GS in look so maybe they decided against it.

The iPhone logo and all the FCC stuff poking through just looks bad. I'd rather not have the holes at all than that stuff showing through.

That's what I thought at first (I didn't actually buy the case until a few days after I got the phone, and I was going to shop around for other cases). But, honestly, the plastic surface of the phone is so reflective that after a few seconds you don't even notice it. You just see color poking through the holes.

Also, the MAIN reason I ended up going with the official case was the feel. It's not something that you notice until it's actually in your hand, but the plastic actually has this velvet-like finish. For a thin plastic case it actually feels pretty luxurious to the touch, and makes the 5c feel even more solid and comfortable to grip.

I'm not unhappy with it.

I think in person, you probably just care less. Like it's a case with holes on your phone.

I dunno - have to get impressions on people who actually use them.

So what say you folks? Those who actually have Apple cases - does the 'non' bother you at all?

I have a green 5c with blue, black and a green official cases. Yeah I have a problem.
I'm getting yellow soon.

PICS!!1!

Of course it doesn't bother the person who owns the case — they rarely have to look at the back of their phone. It's everyone else who has to view the holes and be bothered by the 'non' lol.

What I'm fascinated by is the 'it doesn't feel like plastic' reactions. royalan, no offense but have you held a Galaxy Note III? Does it feel like leather?

The playfulness with color that the holes bring, more than makes up for chopping up the word iPhone, which is something barely perceivable aside from a close up inspection. Not a real life issue. Or about as much as having the FCC codes, etc, straight on the back of the phone - irrelevant. These cases are great.

Held my friend's 5c the other day and it feels much better in the hand than my 5s, although I don't think I can live without fingerprint unlocking anymore; it's just so convenient.

So this $100 Best Buy trade in offer, is that only applicable to upgrade-eligible customers? The offer just says valid to anyone with a working smartphone.

Sweet! That BB offer expired Sat, and I'm not upgrade eligible, despite a notification from AT&T saying the opposite!

Fucking hell.

My blue is coming in tomorrow! It was a tough call between that or green.
Bought it off contract from Verizon to use on T-Mo. Can't wait!

Edit: She's here! Beautiful, beautiful, phone. You can't understand how amazing it is until you hold it in your hand. Dat build quality. I'm in love.

My sister-in-law just got a 5c and she wants a folio case for it. I'm having a hard time finding anything remotely interesting. Can anyone recommend one? In addition, does anyone have a recommendation for a protective case (other than the Apple hole-y case) so I can give her options? I looked around and couldn't find anything with a ton of good reviews.

Thanks yo

Twelve South's SurfacePad
I don't have one, but I would pretty much buy anything from the company.

I'm considering the green one, is the color like the PR pics? Some of the unboxings makes it look lighter green.

I have the green one and its close to what the apple site shows. Maybe even a bit darker. Ill try and post pics in here soon.

So, I know this is a 5C OT but allow me to ask this: is 550 bucks, give or take, a good price for an iPhone 4S 32GB according to you folks? Or is it too expensive?

I just got my 5C this afternoon. It's a company phone so I only chose the color but it's a nice upgrade from my old 4 (non s).

The only thing that annoys me is that the rounded plastic back cover is SUPER slippery. Like it slid out of my hands multiple time this afternoon lol.

I'm thinking about getting a case but I don't want the official croc uglyness.

Anybody got good recommendation? I just want something a bit rubbery and not too flashy.

My wife has the Iphone 4.

She updated to IOS7 and her phone crawls now...soooo slow. Plus it has taken a beating over the years anyway.

She was going to go buy and Iphone 5s today because she got told by someone it was $99. When she got to the store and was told it was $199 she said "F*&^% that" and came home.

They tried to talk her into buying the 5c but she didn't know anything about it so just ignored that.

To make a long ass story short...

Would she be happy with a 5c? Coming from a plain old 4?

Or should she just spring for the 5s?

From a 4, even a 5C is a substantial upgrade.

I think the 5c is a really good phone and a huge upgrade from a 4. It has the best in-hand feel of any iPhone and I like the look of it. Personally though, I can't ever go back to a non-fingerprint sensor iPhone but if it's not a big deal for her, I say go with the 5c.

5C is great for iOS 7. Just remember that it will begin to crawl in future iOS updates before the 5S. So, if she's going to keep that new phone for a long time, the extra money spent on 5S could be worth it.

For me, the reason would be because the plastic, while kind of cheap looking, is really nice. It also means a case is less required and you can customize which color you want. I mean I like the metal, but I'd get a 5C just for the color factor. With a 5S I'd feel obligated to get a case which would end up just covering the colored aluminum I chose anyway. Really for me the only reason to get a 5S is for the fingerprint scanner. (And I guess 64-bit CPU which isn't really a big requirement yet.)

I guess we can't have both. The colored plastic of the 5C with the high technology of the 5S. Maybe when the 6 and 6C come out.

I like the design better. The simple flat one tone back. I'd also get yellow.

It doesn't trump the 5s feature set though, because I think the camera on that thing is killer.

I really wish they'd moved the writing on the back, or at least designed the cases around it. Leaving the text to leak through is such an un-Apple like thing to miss given their attention to details.

Anyone know of a good wallet type case for this phone? My wife got the pink one wants a decent wallet type case. Any experience with them in general. Not looking for the folded wallet but more of the case with a slot for cards in it. The reviews on amazon for a few of their cases are either saying they are too tight or too lose and things fall out.
