They've run into the same issue as other smartphone manufacturers: Hardware maturity. The upgrades have slowed simply because the pace of innovation in the technology surrounding the device has slowed.
It won't be on the same day? Hopefully they have something by November because I'm definitely in the phablet market and that's when the Note's out.
I think we'd see more leaks of the 5.5 if so. I'm guessing the rumors of December/January are more likely.
