iPhone 6 "confirmed" to launch in September

Willing to dump my Note 3 for one of these; it's gone to complete shit and isn't even a year old yet. Will wait to see what Android L is like and if there is any new Nexus or whatnot when it comes out.

So excited for this mostly because I'm still scraping by on my original 4. It's lasted well so far but the last couple weeks the home button has started to crap out on me. Perfect timing! I'm sure I won't even realize how slow this thing is until I have a 6 in my hands.

Also, for those of you who have followed past iPhone launches, is there any typical time it takes after the initial shipment before more start arriving? I'd really like to get one at launch but I don't like waiting in lines and fighting over junk. I have no idea how launches for phones are handled since I've never had an upgrade when a new one launched before.

You can order online and have it shipped to your house. There's no fighting if you wait in line at a store. The delivery time when you order online will slide back as the initial sale day goes on.

You can fight the long lines and crowds by preordering them online a week or so before it is released. They usually go live 3AM east coast / 12AM west coast. The site gets hammered but with enough persistence, its very doable. I also think they are limited to a certain amount per household. They usually have options for every major carrier during checkout. Just have your browser Auto-Fill ready to avoid wasting time.

Once its sold out, it usually takes a while (2-4 weeks iirc) for it to be restocked. You can also try your local carrier store which usually has lesser lines than the actual Apple Store but they usually have limited stock.

Ordering online from Apple sucks. I had to wait something like 11 days after launch to get my 5s while people were walking into stores all over the place and buying them. Wouldn't recommend it if you are antsy like me.

I went to a store, too. I only read about people getting them delivered on launch day from twitter.

Will be super disappointed if the 5.5 rumor is fake. Want to sell my Mini and move to one device.

Especially after the rumors of Optical Image Stabilization.

Also can not wait for that 2GB of RAM.

it's definitely not fake. The only thing unconfirmed is the release date. Everything else is basically confirmed.

They only opened online orders on launch day last year, so mine took a week to ship, and 4 days to be delivered. I don't think anyone got an online order on launch day last year unless they were from the carriers.

I'm on a 5S on Verizon Edge so I might actually jump on one of these. My wife is still on her 4S, so she will definitely be upgrading.

Anyone preorder a 5S from Best Buy? Have some gift cards there and plan to preorder the 6 when available. Can I choose in-store pickup and get it launch day?

Pretty sure that was impossible to do, wasn't it? 5S didn't go up for preorder until launch day, so it wouldn't be so much a preorder as just placing an order for in store pickup.

My fiancee's iPhone 4 is seriously on its last legs. It barely can load a webpage without freezing up anymore. The 6 cannot get here soon enough.

Oh ok, I don't recall the 5S launch at all since I knew I was waiting for the 6. I guess I'll see come the Sept 9th announcement....

I had an HTC One, and on a concession employee line with 1 year contracts, which has run out. My HTC One took a nosedive and in the meantime I've been using a friend's iPhone 5C while I wait for this. iOS is just so...simple, and I love it.

In for a 5.5in 6 w/ 64gb.

Hmmm I'm not really sure which I'd rather do then. The city I live in isn't that big and doesn't even have an apple store so local carriers would be the only option. I guess I'll probably just try and preorder online so I don't have to worry about it and if that doesn't work out I can just try going to a carrier store.

Is anyone with an iPhone 5/5s planning on upgrading to the 6?

Shit yeah, although I have no idea what the logistics will be for moving my wife onto my AT&T plan at the same time. I'm assuming it won't be an issue aside from me probably having to give up my unlimited data plan.

If ios8 runs fine on a 4s I'll be good, but just in case it doesn't, here's hoping the base model 6 can be had for the price as previous base models.

A price bump would really suck.

I own a 5s, I am not upgrading early for the 6. I usually prefer the S line up because apple usually adds better software and camera optics upgrades for the line up. Also gives them time to perfect the design and get the best out of it.

I wonder what the new revolutionary feature is going to be?

iphone - everything
iphone4 - camera, retina display, design
iphone 5 -bigger screen fingerprint scanner?

Apple have not really leapfrogged the competition since the iphone 4 I wonder if they will do with the iphone 6?

Bigger screen was revolutionary? also, the 5S has the fingerprint scanner, not the 5.

TouchID was on 5s.

The bigger screen/new design will be enough to get people frothing. Rumors of NFC, Wireless charging, Sapphire crystal screen, so maybe one of those too.

Im sure iphone fans will buy it no matter what.

but those things you mentioned are nothing that the competitors have been doing for a while.

I think the days of apple and the iphone being ahead in a major way on a tech level is over.

I hope i'am proven wrong.

Venturebeat has supposed iPhone 6 tech specs, but take with many salts:

- two new phones this fall, one with a 4.7-inch screen and another with a large 5.5-inch screen

- 4.7-inch model will be ready to ship mid-September, while the 5.5-inch model is likely to ship several weeks or even a month later.

- source says the screens are made of an extremely hard material that’s slightly harder than Gorilla Glass but not as hard as sapphire.

- new A8 chip. The A8 will run at a frequency of 2.0 GHz per core and will create noticeably faster response time and graphics rendering in the new phones. By comparison, the A7 chips in the iPhone 5 run at only 1.3GHz per core.

- support for Wi-Fi, 802.11ac and The cellular modem in the phone is the latest version of Qualcomm’s MDM9x35.

- a near field communication (NFC) chip

- The fingerprint reader in the new phones will boast some minor improvements to speed up read times, cut down on false rejections, and improve security for mobile payments and biometrics.

- Apple has also been playing around with some technology that would form a special “handshake” between iPhones and Beats headphones. This consists of a chip that would authenticate Beats headsets on iPhones using the Lightning connector. Whether or not that feature materializes is anybody’s guess.

not really, maybe apple being ahead, stopped with the iphone 5 then?
Apple wasn't being ahead of anything with just the bigger screen of the iPhone 5 because plenty of phones with bigger/just as big displays were out by then,it stopped with the 4S IMO.
