But they won't win over the market that doesn't want an iPhone, which is a pretty big market.
I don't think it's as big as you think it is. I think there aren't a ton of people outside of internet comments who genuinely don't want iphones for reasons that I didn't mention in my previous post. That is to say, I think most people who don't want iphones don't want it because the screen isn't big enough, the price isn't low enough, or their friends influenced them another direction, which does happen.

I don't think there is enough of a market for people who regardless of those things just don't want an iphone because they feel it's inferior. At least not enough for apple to give a shit about them. And it's not like they lag anywhere really. Their hardware quality is the tops, one of the best (arguably the best) camera in the game, great speeds, great screen, solid battery life. Technology wise there isn't a whole lot going wrong. Touch ID just added to it. If apple tries too hard with other things they'll be falling into samsung gimmicky territory.

- Noticeably faster response and graphics? All flagship phones these days are pretty much instant in this department. I wouldn't be surprised if they just cut down animations and people believed this BS.

I mean seeing the evolution of Apple chips combined with Metal, this thing is going to be a screamer.

My 4s in the last 6 months has just started falling to pieces. All of a sudden it became a piece of shit. Can't wait to upgrade from this fucking dinosaur.

My Iphone 4s has been a POS for the past year, I had get the charger port fixed a couple of months ago since it couldn't charge anymore.

Hey guys, I'm way out of the loop on phone stuff so sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there supposed to be a new model coming out that's smaller than 4.7 inches?

I'm about to get my first iPhone soon so I'm kind of tempted to wait for the 6 to be announced, but the leaked 6s I've seen are just a big too big for my preference. If nothing smaller is gonna come along I guess I'll just pick up a 5S sooner rather than later.

Hmm they might update the 5C with better internals but either way you're better off waiting because 5S will drop in price when 6 is out. Unless you don't care. But yeah no rumours on an update to the 5C though, that's just speculation. No one even knows what will come of the 5S.

When the time comes, go to a store and hold one in your hand. It's the only way to know for sure.

Sprint is offering 5s's for free with easy pay. If you still wish to use the two year contract method use there mobile site and it's free with a new contract. Picked up three of them 2 days ago. I'm holding out for the 6, it may be too big though.

Am I the only one with a 4s that works flawlessly then?

I have 3 ip4, 2 ip4s and a 5s and they all work great. Upgraded my kids and mom to the 5s the other day from the ip4 for free, just waiting on shipping.

The only downside to the 4 was they were 8GB and always needed a ton of stuff deleted.

1 of the ip4 was dropped in a toilet and continued to work.

While visiting my mom, my wife sat her 4s in front of the microwave and when my mom went to open the microwave door she picked it up to move it and instead of warming her coffee she microwaved the phone. Total loss lol. Sprint still gave us 175 trade in even though we told them what had happened.

mine started dying in the last year. doesn't hold charge well, and it has this weird problem where it will just continuously turn the volume up to max at random times, without any input from the user.

i would've kept holding onto it for a year or two more, but these recent problems have made it an easy choice to upgrade

Man, I take good care of my phone and that makes it worse. I pushed the power button down a couple months ago and that fucker decided not to come up. No I have that little assistance dot on my screen for when I need to lock it or take a screenshot. It sucks.

if specs/performance are the same, I'll probably get the 4.7". 5.5 is going to be a touch too big for my liking. I like the 4.7" screen on my htc one.

I am on a secondhand launch model 4S. It is perfect. I would love to keep the form factor with updated internals.

I don't know if I am sold on the 6 yet. I really like the look of it, especially coming off the 5. I'd love a faster phone with a larger RAM capacity, but the non-S launches always seem to have problems that need ironed out by the S release. I think I am going to wait.

I also want to see how well the 4.7" stands up to the 5.5". I am curious about battery capacity and power disparities that may be brought closer to parity by the refresh.

I have no plans for buying a phone larger than 4.7". That's my largest comfortable one-hand size.

One criticism I don't really get is iPhone battery life. My 4S typically lasts two days between charges, and has gone over three with light use. I am not a super heavy user but I check email, Facebook, GAF, and so on a few times a day. I know other people who carry around portable chargers and can barely last a full workday at 100%, but I don't know what they're doing to use that much juice. I have to work to kill mine that fast.

What impresses me most is iOS standby battery life. It takes baby sips when the screen is off.

Am I the only one with a 4s that works flawlessly then?

I've had mine replaced twice so I've had a new phone each year so I guess I don't count but all them have worked flawlessly. The first one still had a great battery life when the volume buttons got stuck and then that one worked well until i shattered the front walking out of a bar and got it replaced under apple care plus.

That said that 5.5" phone will be mine. I can't wait.

I'm in for 4.7" possibly. Not that I find 4" too small, but sometimes I do want it to be bigger if only to make typing in portrait easier. (Sometimes I really hate turning it to landscape. And others I keep rotation disabled because of Music's stupid-ass cover view that keeps activating when I don't want it.)

I'll wait to see them in person. But 4.7" is most likely mine. Though I'll wait until next year when Virgin does a sale on them again.

Hey is it true that Gmail will no longer push to the native iOS email app? My wife just had her iPhone 5 replaced under warranty, and her saved exchange account won't work on the new phone. Then, I added Gmail as a new account in the mail app, but push isn't an option and email won't arrive immediately.

Google killed Activesync support a while back.

Google is drunk on power and they are building killer robots next dang. Was there some kind of legacy support? Why was my wife getting her Gmail pushed to her iPhone until now? (and why do I still get my email pushed to my windows phone?)

The 5s may not drop in price as the 4.7 inch model is suppose to be priced at $750, so the 5s could still remain at 650. I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.5 model is over 850, closer to 900. Crazy prices.

IIRC it stays active until you ever have the need to re add the account (or get a new device).

i got a 5s like 2 months ago..

i dont like the round look anyway. hard edges like the 4 or 5 feel so much better in your hand imo

i might be moving from a lumia 920 to an iphone 6. the only thing holding me back was screen size and $$$. with a new job and a screen the same size as my current phone, no reason to not get an iphone 6.

My 4s is alright.

I could probably go another year considering I don't buy games on it anymore.

But the battery life is horrible, I barely get half a day with my current usage. And the screen is way too small.

Seriously though - I hate how there's built in obsolescence in these things. In the good old days you could buy a microwave or a fridge and it would last 15 to 20 years. Now they make it completely obvious you have to upgrade no matter what after 4 years. And they make them run slow as shit in the last update to force you to upgrade. The last year of 3G, 3GS and 4 were horrible and didn't have the performance of the previous iOS major updates.

The performance of the 4s and the 4 at the moment is night and day. Hers is basically unsuable, it takes ages to take a photo, open mail, open safari, all the basic stuff that was fine before.

I'd imagine the 5s price will be the 5c price.

I only know the Australian prices, but the 5c was still pretty expensive for what was basically an iphone 5 ($729 for 16gb)

The 4.7 inch model will be at least $799 Australian (same as the iphone 5s price), but I would not be the least bit surprised if it was $899.

The 5.5 inch will surely be $1000. Pretty insane prices.

So any word on when this will be announced?

Pretty much already confirmed for September 9th.

rumor has it that the 4.7" is being stuffed with a 2100mAh battery compared to the 1800 in current models.

really hoping Apple has a surprise killer feature up their sleeve that hasn't been leaked yet

I'll be preeeeetty pissed if the 5.5" has a ton of features absent from the 4.7... I'm really hoping for an iPad mini / iPad Air situation, I don't want to buy a 5.5" monstrosity

Can't wait. My 4s is getting goofy.

I'm going to switch from Sprint to T-mobile when I get this. Never switched carriers before, will T-Mobile take care of everything when I go there?

It can afford the larger battery with the increased size, heck, most flagships are pushing 3000mAh if I remember correctly.

Yeah I was hoping for bigger but it should be adequate enough. Its a useless feature but a glowing Apple logo on the back would still be pretty awesome in my eyes. For the first week at least.

My 4s is an absolute beast of a thing. I drop it constantly and it's still in pristine nick.

It still runs well but the battery life has been horseshit for about a year. If I have 3G on and actively surf, I lose about a percent a minute. If I'm using Maps while driving it drops 3-5% a minute or so. It's pretty awful. If I take a photo, sometimes it randomly drops 15%.

The weird thing is when I chuck it on Airplane mode or turn off 3G and data and use wifi, it will last all day.

LOL

You mean the iPhone 5s's 1500mAH. Which is 1560. You wish the 5s had 1800. Fuck so do I. They haven't really touched the internal battery capacity in years.

iPhone 4 - 1420
iPhone 4s - 1420
iPhone 5 - 1440
iPhone 5s - 1560

wow this post...

there are a lot of people who despise apple. A Lot. they wouldn't go near apple even if it was half the price of Samsung.

I worked at a market stall selling mobile accessories last year. The hatred is real, granted it was in a 'lower class' area, there are many people who don't want apple products but will lap up their competitors stuff of exactly the same thing. It's not just the hardware, its the apple brand they don't want, the ecosystem, their philosophies.

I love apple tho

battery technology is the only thing holding everything else down really :E where's my nuclear battery goddamnit!

Hate that the iPhone 5 drains 1% of battery every minute just from browsing Gaf...

Damn, 7 years already.

Battery isn't really an issue with my 5s, full charge lasts me 1 day usually. Bigger screen would be nice though.

Haven't read of any significant jumps between the 5s and the 6 aside from screen size. I think I'll bite a used 5s with that all important 32GB of storage.
