Is a hotdog a sandwich?

What did the other 5% say?

As I said, they made random comments. I even made a picture for my future presentation about hot dogs

No, but I have no justification for this opinion and it's probably wrong.

If it wasn't specifically a hot dog but another type of sausage, I'd almost certainly call it a sausage sandwich, or a hoagie which is just plainly a type of sandwich.

But a hot dog? For some reason, no.

So we need make a list of criteria. These are the things that typically make a sandwich a sandwich.

Portable
Contents supported by bread
Wider than tall
Eaten by hand
Can be augmented with condiments, cheese, veggies

Et cetera

Then we need to define how many of those boxes must be checked for it to pass. If it's unanimous, then various things that are considered a sandwich will not pass muster. And other things that are not considered sandwiches will suddenly become sandwiches retroactively.

For example, my criteria dictates that pizza is a sandwich.

These are the unfortunate truths that we learn as we careen toward adulthood.

"I would like one hot dog sandwich, please!"

You could make the same argument against almost any sandwich, though.

"I would like one BLT sandwich, please."
"I would like one Reuben sandwich, please."

Sounds just as weird.

I would say they're related. I wouldn't consider a burger a sandwich despite it meeting all the criteria. Maybe used to be part of sandwich family but is now big enough to be its own thing.

It's a hybrid sausage / sandwich, pretty revolutionary if you think about it.

We'd have more foods like this if milquetoast lawmakers stopped stifling innovation.
