What phone do you have? Playing PS1/PSP games on my Vita was pretty nice, but then I got a Moga Pro Power controller for my Note 4 and the experience is so much better imo. If that option is available to you then I wouldn't recommend a Vita just for PS1 games.

It's a nice bonus feature but you would be surprised how much fun the other multiplat games can be on a Vita. My most played game for example is freaking Zen Pinball 2 with its Star Wars and Marvel tables. I just love those small flipper sessions on the go and with suspend/resume I can always jump in and out. So yeah Vita is more than worth it but only if you really want a handheld. (I mean if you just use it at home than PS3 is the better option I think)

Not all. You'll have to look around to see what's missing in your region specifically too as it differs between the European, North American and Japanese stores.

Vita is slightly better for playing PS1 games than PSP. The analog stick can be used for a analog mode and the touch screen on back can be used for L2 and R2.

I have mostly PS1 games for it. If you like JRPG's and don't mind the absence of Crash and Spyro, then I'd say go for it. I think this handheld is the tragic hero of it's generation.

PS vita is way better than psp cause of the analog sticks. You can finally play PS1 games in analog mode with that feature. But the lack of L2 and R2 makes it not really worth it for me. Using a touch pad for L2 and R2 don't really work for me. You'd be much better off playing it on PS3.

Xperia Z2/3 + Dualshock 3/4 + FPse hooked up to your TV.
1080p/60fps/AA/Texture Filters and Wide-screen hack.
I wouldn't bother with PS3 or Vita.
Until Sony add this to PS4 which it can do, that's the only way I play them.
Also PPSSPP for PSP games.

If you're planning on downloading a lot of PS1 games save management can be a bit of a nightmare due to the way they're all bundled together and you don't get the cloud save option. You may still have to back them up on your PS3.
It's a minor annoyance but it sounds like it may effect you.

Other than that I think it's a fine idea, you'll probably end up playing a lot more Vita games that you expected too.

It's worth it to play Spelunky, Binding of Isaac and Rogue Legacy though!

I strongly disagree with the first sentence, but I'll say "maybe" to the second.

In terms of game appearance, the Vita has all of the advantages. Higher resolution, better color reproduction, and the option to apply bilinear filtering all play to Vita's favor.

In terms of playability, I also prefer the Vita. You get a second analog stick, and (perhaps even more importantly) the ability to remap a large amount of the controls. A good example of this would be to map camera controls to one of the analog sticks. PSP does have options to remap some controls to its (single) analog stick, but Vita has much more customization available. I wish Sony would bring that level of customization to PSTV; it's sad that they haven't done this yet.

The only reasons that I could think of to recommend a PSP over a Vita (for playing PS1 games) are:

1. You could get a PSP for significantly cheaper than a Vita.
2. If you can obtain a PSP Go, then you could also hook it up to a TV and play games using a Dual Shock 3 controller.

Yes! Very well. All control inputs can be bound. It brings new life to some PS1 games, like Armored Core 1 and Shadow Tower.

No it's not.

Suikoden II gets noticeable slowdown when spells are cast, Like Flaming Arrows for example.

This doesn't even occur when ran on the PS3.

Of course there are other obvious advantages on the Vita emulator though, such as Aspect Ratio adjustments and whatnot.

So I'm thinking about getting a Vita, but I am really on the fence about it and am hoping maybe Gaf can push me on either side. I want to use it primarily for playing PSone classics, however there are a few PSP games and Vita games that I'd also like to play. Basically here's where I am at.

Pros
-I'd be able to play PSP and Vita games.
-I wouldn't have to worry about deleting things from my PS3 to make space for the games I want to download.
-Vita's PSX emulator is better than the PS3s
-I slightly prefer gaming on a handheld over a console
