Is AMC the most interesting channel on TV?

AMC is definitely the most interesting. I'm looking forward to what next year holds in the slot after Breaking Bad. Kevin Smith video podcast, Small Town Security, what will they come up with next?!

Or how they can run into conflicts with Mad Men budgets because The Walking Dead needs infinite ammo scenes and bad acting and bad writing and bad everything.

Then they extend The Killing for an extra season because "Fuck." How they drove Hell on Wheels straight into pooptown before even letting it get started.

How the fuck do you mess up a spaghetti western TV show that bad.

Did I mention the Kevin Smith show where he talks into a mic while a camera records him shifting inside Hockey Jersey/sleeping bag?

Every year, AMC shocks me. HBO just has good shows.

AMC is losing Breaking Bad. And maybe a season or two of Mad Men is left. Outside of Walking Dead which is a huge hit, they need to create a couple of awesome series in the next year or so. And unlike HBO where the big series seem to get a lot of support from their money providers, AMC is constantly fighting their talent from what I have read.

:lol

You can't POSSIBLY believe that. I love Justified, it's in my top 5. But Homeland is better in almost every level.

I would put Justified top 3rd of all time in terms of dialogue on TV shows behind Deadwood and The Wire...Homeland has been really disappointing so far this season

Homeland is entertaining, but the overall writing is nowhere near the quality of Justified and I just don't really care about the show at all in comparison...its not one of the shows I feel compelled to watch every week

I have not kept up with Justified, so I find it hard to argue with you. But IMO Homeland was the best series of last year. It was better then some series I really love like Boardwalk, Mad Men, and was only inferior to Breaking Brad.

This just tells me I need to check out Justified. Which I want to do. I can only base my opinions on the shows that I keep up with.

Homeland's first season was good but I have no trust in the shows creators to keep it that way. If they don't basically solve Brody arc this season and start with new one I don't see how they are going to keep the show interesting.

I always give tv series the benefit of the doubt until they fail me.

The sorts that have an end game for Dexter, and it has to finish in this certain way. I just do not buy into that whole concept including Homeland. Let them take us on a ride. If that ride goes to shit, then call them out on it. But the most boring thing they could do would be for the series to become predictable.

I do not want to see three plus series of Brody as a terrorist. Either make him go boom, or make him an informant. The overall story does need to move along at some points. But where it ends should not be something that the viewer expects or has a need for it to happen in a particular way.

I love when people blame Mad Men for everything that is wrong with The Walking Dead.

Then they extend The Killing for an extra season because "Fuck."

The story arc was always planned as a two season arc.

How they drove Hell on Wheels straight into pooptown before even letting it get started.

I don't know what your first sentence means, but Hell on Wheels isn't a spaghetti western...

The HBO answers are correct, but AMC has really punched above their weight for awhile now. It's awesome that a basic cable channel has two of the best shows on television.

Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Walking Dead, and some others. The only show on HBO I'm REALLY interested in is Game of Thrones, though I would watch Boardwalk Empire if I had it. What else is there on HBO people really like right now? True Blood? VEEP? Girls?

TRio was the most interesting channel on TV, and EGG the Arts show, was the most interesting show on tv ever. As a result, both had to die, and quickly.

HBO has all of the best shows on TV right now.

AMC has one great show (Mad Men), one really good show (Breaking Bad) and one average show that varies in quality (Walking Dead)

On HBO right now there's three great shows (Treme, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones) and one very good one (The Newsroom). I hope Curb will make a comeback too.

Then when you compare what HBO has done with The Wire, Sopranos, Deadwood, Generation Kill, Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, etc etc, it's an absolute no contest.

Not sure anyone will ever come close to touching HBO. They're the kings of TV by such a large margin it's ridiculous. Wish I lived in America to have it...

I understand Breaking Bad, but Mad Men eludes me. It's just a show where....stuff just kinda happens. Watched the first 4 seasons and left feeling nothing. It could literally be replaced with just about any other setting, writing and story. Not bad, not good, just kinda there.
You watched 4 seasons aka 52 episodes of a show where you think "stuff just kinda happens"?

If you ignore how terrible Mad Men is, yes.

HBO is the all time king, followed by FX and Showtime. AMC has Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead, but everything else they've put out has been mediocre or outright bad.

Damn, how did I miss this thread.

AMC isn't even close to being the most interesting channel on television. They have eight more episodes of Breaking Bad, a past its prime Mad Men, a bunch of mediocre other shows, and movies I've already seen.

HBO, Showtime, and FX easily surpass it currently and if you consider legacy shows it isn't even close.

Intervention is on A&E, and it shits.

Oh damn. Well still the greatest show ever!

I've been watching Boardwalk Empire season 2, and well I think its all around better than Madmen. While Madmen is very subtle and has great character development, that is all it is. The main story is 2nd to the character development that happens and I love it.

But Boardwalk Empire is that + a great story that goes throughout the series. I know they are two different periods and shows but I think Boardwalk is a better show.

1. HBO
2. FX
3. Showtime & AMC

Yeah, I can agree with this. I think FX deserves a lot of credit for being really strong on both drama and comedy, and for never having a year without a critical success (even HBO had that weak period between the end of The Wire and the premieres of Treme and The Pacific). Overall HBO still remains king.

I'd find them more interesting if they didn't have - bar none - the worst, most compressed broadcast I've ever seen.

The Walking Dead practically looks like Sega CD FMV on a 60" display. Fucking TERRIBLE.

I should check out the Netflix encode now that seasons 1 and 2 are available. I fully expect it's lightyears ahead of the broadcast as pathetic as that would be. Fuck you AMC.

It's easily the best basic cable channel in the history of basic cable.

Mad Men is a masterpiece. Breaking Bad is a masterpiece.

The Walking Dead is incredibly entertaining and has moments of glory.

I'm pretty sure HBO, Showtime, et al. are considered premium cable.

Probably been said already, but once Mad Men and Breaking Bad are done, AMC is screwed. The Walking Dead will almost certainly stay popular and profitable for quite a while, but without suitable replacements for MM and BB, AMC will lose much of its cred.

Also, AMC needs to learn how to use the ratings success of The Walking Dead to boost their other shows.

AMC has Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Walking Dead. Trifecta of win.

I still can't believe they showed under-the-covers handjob in season 1 pilot.

I didn't watch the pilot when it aired, but the first time I watched it on Netflix that scene wasn't in it. Neither was the topless lady Jesse was with during the raid Walt went with Hank on. I think the scene with Walt washing the kid's car was missing as well. I didn't see any of those until I got the show on blu ray

Does anyone see a moment in time where scripted network television on prime time will be looked upon with disdain like soap operas? To me, HBO and Showtime have created an atmosphere that makes the network shows look like the bush leagues. I know shows like Glee and Modern Family are popular. But I just don't get the appeal of them. AMC is the only cable network whose shows seem artistically cutting edge. Anything from USA looks like a slight upgrade from the networks in my opinion. With the prominence of talent shows and reality shows on network tv, do any of you see a trend of scripted tv being gradually phased out of network primetime?
