Is anyone else scared...?

We have two big launches in November. I mean, within 2 days, we have PS3 and Wii. For me, it's 3 launches - as I'm also picking up the HD-DVD on 7th.

I'm one of the lucky one who've got both PS3 and Wii reserved and paid the whole thing off at GS. If they indeed deliver this time around - I should be able to pick up both at midnight launch for both systems.

One thing that I'm scared of is, though, ... that someone might try to forcefully take away my goods at midnight when I walk away from the store. I'm really getting worried (probably for nothing) that this whole craze over just mere game machine (after seeing several dozens of people lining up just to "pre-order")!!! Am I only one who think there will be several mugging cases over this, especially PS3, which will get most likely carry heavy premium?

That night, the Target near by will have huge crowd - and I fear some of them would have very bad intention of mugging the pre-ordered people's PS3 - because it's almost guaranteed to be there... at midnight no less!

I mean, in Japan, some kid was taken his Dragon Quest 3 away by school bully on his way back home. Now, I'm scared of my life, that since I'm in USA, I could get gun-pointed. If it's a fist to fist - I'm not worried because I'm carrying 5kg leathal weapon - but I'm not sure whether PS3 could be used as a bullet proof shield, knowing all Sony quality contorl.:lol

In all seriousness.. I'm thinking of 3 ways.
1, carrying a mace. or...
2. picking up PS3 after people gives up finding one around and all stores are neglected. or...
3. Ask my wife to sit in my car and leave the engine running... and as she drives by the front door of the GS, I jump in and run away from the spot...

.. Sigh. All this pre-launch buildup is getting to me, I guess...:lol

Wear an Xbox as a bulletproof vest. It's been proven to deflect bullets.

That would be the wrong thing to do...
You have big X and a neon green dot on your heart - talking about a easy target...!

I don't have a gun though - as I'm a democrat. :D

Perhaps I could hire one of your secret agent 007 to protect me to my car?

... remembering Pinky & The Brain's episode, where Brian tries to be a 6ft tall country singer... :lol

When you get your PS3, just walk outside yelling. People would avoid you and you could play it off like you're just excited about your purchase.

Do NOT bring any weapons with you. Also, in the case you do get threatened by someone, just give him the goods...your life is far more precious. And euh...what's your address btw? :)

Seriously though, the crazyness surrounding these system launches and the ridiculous amounts of money some ppl are willing to pay for a system on ebay etc do make me wonder how much longer it will take for this stuff to go horribly wrong. Whether it be between gamers who fight for the last systems at launchday or whether it be criminals going for the quick $$$ by mugging.

Silly guy, we know people only stab other people for Xbox 360's. :lol

I'm not all that worried... I'm sure there will be the typical line of people hoping there will be extra Wii's or PS3's on launch day, but I'd be shocked if someone got violent or something.

Just don't be an easy target. Bring a friend and stay in well lit, well populated areas.

Muggers tend to be cowards.
Indeed, criminals are a cowardly, superstitious lot.

So dress up as Batman.

I hope they make sure the store has 3 people in there at all times.

I could see a crowd forming and overwhelming a poor Gamestop games associate or whatever. It'll be all poetic and stuff.

Okay, Batman it is then. Thankfully, we have Halloween soon, too.

..

I think it will get pretty cold at night though, with that flimsy tights w/o wearing long johns....:lol

It'd take a brave man to mug somebody while dozens of people are lining up for something.

Well, it's there are only 16, and I'm #16. I'll be the last person out of the store... :(

What if it's a girl that's doing the mugging?

Geeks in line: "g-g-g-g-g-g girl!"

Worthless Security guard: "Did you catch her face?"

Geek 1: "I....saw boobies in real life! I think i'm in love... I'll never reveal her identity. NEVAR!!!!!!....for the sake of our love"

Geek 3: "Oh jeez come on, her hips have much to be desired and hair is not as long as Katsumi's, she is way below my expectations...."

For the PS3 launch, I plan on hiring a private Security Guard. Have him escort me in and out. :lol

How much does one cost? I mean, a real escort service? (not in a sexual way..?) Just curious...

:lol :lol :lol

That's a hilarious image. "Just Drive! Drive! Drive!"

If you're really that worried just pass by the store and go in when you think it's safe and nobody's around. Or when lots of people are around? :lol

YOU'RE SCARED? I'm picking mine up at Walmart at midnight, I know I'll get one, but then there's the problem of getting home, I'll have to use a cab. I just know I won't be able to make it the cab before I get attacked.

Honestly, that's really the thing I'm thinking of doing...
but...
My wife's pregnant now, and she can't stay awake after 10pm these days.

...
It kinda explains how my mind is so... edgey these days. :D

I'm not scared. Just don't go to the game store in the ghetto.

Oh wait... maybe that's not a bad idea... The game store in the ghetto is so close to my house. I could go down there, get my Wii and be home before my bed loses its warmth.

The thing is, the GS where I bought my PS3/Wii is kinda located in a isolated building, which is facing kinda dead-end - and only things near-by are the stores that close early at night. (Starbucks, and some pizza store).

At nights... it's only the empty parking lot you stare at. Kinda scary. :(

I see.... thanks. I think I should add that cost, if I every sell my PS3 at e-bay then. ;) If you do, let us know how it worked out. :)

Just make sure everything is bagged up and walk straight to your car. Don't stop and chat with anyone. Don't stop to make a call or make small talk with your buddy in the parking lot. Straight to the car - lock the doors, drive home.

Don't be an idiot like the guy in my Best Buy's parking lot on PS2 launch day back in 2000. He was one of the lucky ones to score a system, and there were about 50 people left standing in the parking lot who were unlucky. He came out of the store and started taunting the people out in the parking lot who came up empty. He was flashing his new PS2, jumping up and down, grabbing his crotch hollering "yeeeah boiiiiii" and just acting like an idiot. He got his car windows kicked in for his trouble, and I don't live in the ghetto. He'd probably got shot had it been any other place.

Surely people have been robbed on launch before, but that's no reason to be scared. Just bring a buddy. A real person, not a firearm.

Let me re-phrase myself. I'm proficient in Judo's falling down techniques. (thats' what you learn first) :lol Throw-me, and I'll be thrown, hit me, and I'll hit the floor - but I won't get hurt too badly from falling. But I'll be defninitely staying down begging for mercy! :lol
(talking about low-self esteem that is.)
