Is Bob's Burgers as good as prime Simpsons?

Comparing side characters should make it very clear that bob can't touch simpsons. The scope isn't the same

Huh? I dont get if youre saying bobs side cgaracters arent good or if saying that is a srrong suit of bobs hurts the overall argument.

I don't know, I've never seen a single episode of The Simpsons.

I'm 27 years old, too.

I'm 27 years old and The Simpsons was everywhere in the 90's, I dont believe you. I have seen maybe 2? episodes of Bob's and it is okay.

The better question for the OP would be "Is prime Simpsons better than Prime Seinfeld?" and the answer is no.

I should probably check out Bob's Burgers, I suppose.

But, given that I haven't, and that prime Simpsons is near the pinnacle of television comedy, I'm going with no.

Use the list I posted a page back and pick a handful of those episodes to get invested. Its different at first and some people back out too quick.

The simpsons had a deep and diverse cast of side characters that you could have entire episode plots or even arcs built around. Every character has worth, had a story, had a personality, had depth. BB has Teddy and.....not much else aside from one-off, semi popular voice actor guest appearances. I like Mr. Frond, I like some of the kids, but the Non-Simpsons Simpsons characters were unrivaled in the shows prime.

I love Bobs Burgers. Simpsons in its glory years was the best show/sitcom in existence, it's not close

I prefer Bob's Burgers to just about any animated (American) show ever made I think. But I guess the golden era of The Simpsons is pretty hard to beat -- Troy McClure, the monorail, etc. are so good. I just haven't seen them in so long that it's I guess hard to compare the two directly. But BB is consistently amazing.

I say yes because of one main factor: the visual limitations of seinfeld

Plus Simpsons was more surreal (personal preference) and had more heart while still being hilarious

Could you tell me/link me some of his funnier moments that don't require context? Because I don't remember him being "much more" than fart jokes at all.

One time he was on a rollercoaster and about to die and he goes

"I'm about to die? I never got to see Hall and Oates live!"

That's when I knew I loved Gene

Gene is funny but his utter randomness doesn't fit everyone's sense of humor. Gene is one of the characters that peaked in season 1 for me. I found him hilarious in season 1 and then got tired of him in the seasons that followed.

The kids are the perfect combination of their parents in bobs imo. Gene has his moms love of music and whimsy, tina is more like bob but girly, and louise is chill and sarcastic like bob but has her moms confidence and whimsy as well

A lot of his humour is saying concepts kids wouldn't understand which is funny to me

Wow I disagree. Mr frond, teddy, mort, jimmy pesto, dr. Yap, animal and some of the other bikers, mr fishoeder, jimmy jr, zeke, tammy, regular sized rudy, darryl, hugo and ron the inspectors, aunt gayle, etc etc etc. There are actually plenty more than that like felix and other classmates.

I watched Cape Fear over the weekend and then the season 5 Simpsons spoof and it really hit me how much I miss that show.

Bob's Burgers is pretty great.

Classic era Simpsons is a level on its own.

There's no comparing, they're just both wonderful and unique.

Never seen so many wrong opinions in one thread. Simply put, prime simpsons is the greatest sitcom ever made and nothing even comes close. It shares a space with programs like faulty towers, the office, I'm Alan partridge, friends, curb, Seinfeld. Non of those shows has made me laugh as consistently as the simpsons.

There is a reason why simpsons is the most quoted program on this forum, because it's social and political satire is second to non.

Jesus some of those old episodes are joke after joke after joke that's what makes it so rewatchable as you can't take it all in in a single viewing.

Edit: bob's burgers is a fantastic show

But the Simpsons built an entire town of a supporting cast, from all walks of life

It's just a bad thing to highlight against the simpsons, cause no one has topped them yet

I straight up said it's not as good but it's by far the closest show I can think of. The supporting cast in bobs is phenomenal and extremely well rounded, with full episodes and plot lines built around them, like felix and fish as villains or gaylecentric episodes.

You're right, I definitely undersold the supporting cast on BB. Mr. Fischoeder for one never fails to make me laugh. They have a solid supporting cast. It just doesn't compare though.

I can't stand Gale though. I know that's her schtick and she has moments, but I'm just not a fan

Mostly agree on gayle front, but her strong moments are hilarious. Gaylemaican bobsled for instance is outstanding.

No, for real. I have never seen an episode. Of course I've seen gifs and it's played on television in random places, but I have never sat down and watched a single one.

Not trying to be a dick, but are those examples of the best this show has to offer? I smiled at one joke in the top video, and the second one made me groan.

It's all opinions, but BB has never really been up my alley. I've enjoyed the few episodes I've seen, but it's nothing groundbreaking or must-watch.

First no those arent. Second random clips mostly wont do shows as much justice as if youre into the characters and the show.

It really shouldn't blow your mind that different people like different styles of comedy.

I'd agree that Bob's Burgers is not as good as prime Simpsons, but at the same time shows in our current zeitgeist, especially of this nature, are going to have a harder time having the same cultural impact that fuels a lot of the nostalgia for prime Simpsons as well.

It's not that people like Bob's Burgers, it's that they're comparing it to the show that not only set the standard but set the bar so high that even the funniest animated shows I watch still don't touch it. So to have a show like Bob's Burgers get praise for being better than classic Simpsons is yeah kind of mind blowing regardless of whether I found it funny or not. But I didn't. Not even a little.
