I noticed this ingredient is in almost every jar of pickles at the grocery store. The organic brands (mostly) do not have it which made my Spidey senses tingle.

I tried to look it up and found out it’s the same kind of salt they use to melt ice on the street? That seems weird, no?

It's safer for plants than NaCl and more effective, so I dunno why that would be weird.

It is perfectly safe in the kind of amounts used for pickling or cheese making. Both the EU and the FDA have approved it as a food additive.

Magnesium and potassium chlorides are safe as well. Potassium chloride in particular is a common salt replacement for people with high blood pressure.

Just don't go salting your food with lithium chloride. That one is toxic.
