Is Chrono Cross worth playing if I just finished Trigger?

If you want a more cohesive narrative, I would recommend playing Crimson Echoes on top. It's a fan project, but it is the most popular and accepted fanon. Square Enix have gave it a C&D, so watching the entire series on youtube is the most 'legal' method.

Just booted it up on my PS2. I played a little bit to test if everything is in working order, and the FMV and music at the beginning are fantastic. Hopefully it stays like that throughout. Having to press a button to run is kind of annoying, but I guess I'll get used to it. Now I'm excited to play through it. Funny, the game was just sitting there on my shelf, and I never really thought to play it right away until I saw this thread.
I hope you dig it. I honestly think it has a fantastic plot and I'm not going to qualify by saying "for a videogame". CC has legit good story.

Chrono Cross has a metacritic rating of 94 out of 100. I think that is an accurate score..

I have never argued otherwise. Was this a counter point? I said the game was underrated, a largely positive metacritic score doesn't mean it reflect the opinions of the general gaming populace. most gamers still complain that it was not a continuation of crono's story and have passed on it for that reason

Square spoiled the game "hurry up-ing" the team, leaving a premature WTF ending. Although, for me It was a great experience. I love both CC and CT.

Thanks! That helped a lot!

That can be changed in the options. Full analog, baby.

Yeah, I've put about 7 hours into so far, and I'm enjoying it immensely!

I have a couple of questions about the game and wasn't sure where to ask.

I was a little confused about the leveling up process in the beginning. I was fighting everything in sight at first, but realized that I was only gaining XP periodically. I guess only during boss fights and a few fights after. My party isn't that big yet, so I'm unsure if only the characters in your party gain experience or everyone. How does that work?

Secondly, I'm at the point where
I'm supposed to decide whether to save Kid or not. At first, I thought the game would make you save her, so I kept declining, and it actually let me. I did a quick search online. Sure enough, you can choose either path. I'm totally not ready to make this decision! Anyways, I guess there are pros and cons to both. I wanna get the best possible experience on my first play through.
Without spoiling too much, which option do you guys recommend?

I would recommend NOT saving Kid, as this lets you recruit one of the best characters in the gane
(Glenn)
, and opens a special sidequest to obtain one of the best weapons in the game
(The double Einlanzers).
.

On your second playthrough you can chose to save her, and you get a completely different side-quest. Both are great, but that particular character won't be available if you chose to save Kid.

Thanks, I think that's what I'm gonna do. Figures, you can be a jerk and benefit from it.

Cross isn't entirely linked "directly" to the events of Trigger but there are quite a few nods to it during the game.

It is a fantastic game, I love replaying it from time to time. The OST is phenomenal and the ending song made me tear up the first time I listened to it. A great RPG experience.

Some of its big problems: Lots of characters with minimal background info and/or development.
