i just finished an entire week of devil may cry 3 and devil may cry 1. awesome awesome games..
anyway the reason i avoided the second one was cos of all the bad reviews, so i just want to ask those who played it, how bad really is it? or should i just go for it. my backlog is really huge and i dont want to waste time on duds when i could be playing better games.
so i should i give it a try?

Imagine DMC

Take away any personality from the games (even if 1 and 3 are on opposite ends)

Add Dante & His Shitty Friends

Add stupid level design

Mix with completely unexplained atmosphere

And stir.

It will be fun for like 10 minutes.

But then those same 10 minutes repeat over and over, twisting together into one of the most boring game layouts ever.

The game almost killed the series. Devil may Cry 3 had to go above and beyond the call of duty to bring everyone back. Even then, DMC3's sales still suffered by being the follow-up to part 2.

devil may cry 2 never existed. Were in a time paradox, there was a black hole. There is only 1, 3, and 4.

I don't know what DMC3 sold, but I agree, it did have to go above and beyond cause I sure as hell didn't have trust in the franchise after the second one.

It sucks, but, its still better than some action games I have played. By no means is it the worst action game ever. Its just...its a ****ing horrible DMC game.:lol

That's what your post reminded me of.

And yes I would rather play your modern Sonic game than DMC2.

You know, I kinda had a bit of fun while it lasted. Problem is, I beat it in like 2 and a half hours. DMC2's hate is warranted but I really think if it were longer and more fleshed out it would have been pretty good.

The only thing it needed, other than variety in weapons, was...A.I. It would have been cool if the weapons did different stuff, and if the enemies actually posed a threat. Maybe the DDT should have been turned down a notch to. I had to kill myself to use it, and, when I did, its like Dante died and turned into a God.

Yes. Oh God yes. Avoid Bob's Adventure

For the record the game's "story" is about an evil banker who wants to obtain power, and Bob making all his choices based on a coin toss.

An evil banker.

I'm serious.

Yeah. I only beat it when it first came out so I don't remember too much about it. But I do remember that the enemies just seemed like they were wandering around without a clue as to what is going on. :lol

The funny thing is, you guys had had to play it to testify that it sucks.

It's the series black sheep and I wept tears for it.

Too bad, at least Silent Hill 4 had a redeemable plot.

Seriously though. I kinda felt bad for some of the enemies, cause they clearly didn't know why the hell I was smacking them around with the sword. :lol

You know, I kinda wonder what this game would have been, if it Capcom would have let them make it like they wanted to, instead of turning it into DMC2. I thought thats how the story went. I might be wrong though.

Yes I played the game. It was just odd they place you in places that don't make sense. One min your in a city, next min your in a cementary, then a oil rig. WTF is this crap? lol.

Cutscene:

Bad Guy: "Who are you?"

Dante: Wouldn't you like to know."

Bad Guy: "Perhaps another time." (leaves)

/cutscene.

The series has never fully recovered from Bob's Adventure even with the awesomeness that is DMC3, and perhaps never will, the wound is THAT deep.

So maybe the game was really just a visual screed against capitalism?

I stopped playing it after 30 minutes because I got pissed off that the enemy AI kept respawning even without leaving the area.

Then I played DMC3 and was shedding tears of joy because Capcom made a proper DMC game.

Don't listen to anyone saying it's really that bad.

It's bad compared to 1 and 3.

But if 2 were actually the first game in the series and 1 was the second, people would probably look at it like Mega Man 1 compared to 2.

6.0/7.0 game, mediocre. Not THAT bad. People tend to act like it's Bubsy 3D or something. I still managed to play through it like 5 times.

(I've never touched it since 3 came out, of course. I've played 1 again though.)

I thought it was amazing, especially when fighting the last boss for both characters.

However, that was before I played the first and third games in the series. Then I went back and compared them and I FINALLY saw what everyone else was talking about. It's not the worse game ever but it's not good either. Play it before you play he others to have the most fun out of it.

I haven't finished the game, nor do I ever plan to, but I wouldn't be surprised if the final battle cutscene went something like this:

Bad Guy: "I'm the last boss."

Dante: "Yeah."

Bad Guy: "So...yeah."

/fight

And the Bob's Adventure joke is referring to Capcom's half-kidding confirmation that the Dante in DMC2 was actually an imposter (a friend of his named Bob) who stole his outfit, hence why Dante isn't wearing clothes in Viewtiful Joe.

That's how bad it is; Capcom had to come up with an actual non-canon reason for why DMC2 sucked so much.

I wouldn't say "Capcom". I think it's more Kamiya defending his raped child.

But, yeah, it is pretty much that. On top of that, Dante faces a boss named Alastor, who asks him why he didn't take him on his last adventure, and Dante pretty much replies with "What adventure?". Pretty funny, really.

For the record, DMC2 is one of the very, very few times i gaming where I've been axcited greatly for a title, and it was crap. The way they presented media made it all sorta seem ok. Oh, how wrong I was. We all were.

HA!

The end boss had nothing to do with the whole game whatsoever it was the most random end Boss in a game EVAH!!

more like.

Bad Guy:"..."

Dante:"..."

Bad guy:"..."

/fight.

It's completely ****ing random.

It kinda makes sense if you look at it after knowing the full story from DMC1 and 3. He may well be going there because
that's the decision Vergil made at the end in DMC3.
With Trish nowhere in sight and most likely dead (forget for a moment that she was a secret character) the human world may not have held any appeal for Dante.

With the randomness of DMC2's plot and Dante just there for the ride, you can fit it into the overall timeline. You just have to set it up with another game first much like how DMC3 explained away part of DMC1's story.
