First one is a love or hate the game. I remember back when I had my 360 I played the hell out of it because of it's quirks. This second one is trying to suck people in by offering zombie genocide at a nominal laughs per hour. That's not what made the first game so fun it.. I mean yeah sure chopping zombies to death is fun but the characters in the game were f'ed in the head in which drew the gamers in to see what crazy shit they'd see next.
This one looks boring and uninspired of which is a shame but should not be a surprise to anyone.
I don't remember them pimping out the first game, as a matter of fact, other then it being in a mall and you being a photographer and some other slight details, I don't think they really advertised the crazy people. I'm almost positive Dead Rising 2 will have plenty to it they just simple are not showing at this time.
I think this could be a problem with marketing, as seems to be the case more and more frequently. Pretty much every game is marketed as an high octane action game these days.
Still, I'm worried the developers are taking DR2 in the wrong direction. Making it more of a brain dead brawler. We'll see, I guess.
this game, like crackdown 2, has focused almost entirely on all the wrong things that should have made it to or been improved upon in a sequel and in some ways made ideas or mechanics that were good in the original worse in the sequel.
Wish you guys could have seen the VFExpo presentation on the game; they went into some good detail on how they were building levels, fixing pathfinding, etc. Was really exciting to see.

Pretty much. The time/save system of the first was flawless. But man I just can't believe how lethargic I am to this new sequel. Who the hell's idea was it to drop Frank West altogether?
You have to be kidding. There was nothing to do at night and the 3-day limit combined with the leveling up system means rescuing any survivors is pointless until you've maxed out your character. Enjoy playing the first 3 hours over and over and over to gain experience. The default gameplay mode should've been Infinite mode but with the cases.
My problem with the save system isn't that you can accidentally start the game over. It's that there's only one save file so making any mistakes with time can be permanent. Again, fuck the escort missions on your first playthrough. Not to mention my 4 attempts at the second Carlito boss fight meant 10 minutes of preparation every time I died. I hope that in DR2 you can save anywhere with multiple files. PC games have been doing it for years.
Those are my two biggest problems with DR and they probably won't be fixed in DR2. If you think this is good game design, please see a psychiatrist now.

I've always defended the save system in Dead Rising, but until reading your post, I had forgot just how different the game is when you're at a low level. Once you level up and get some decent moves/more HP/more item slots, all of Dead Rising's problems disappear completely, but that doesn't change the fact that for a good while, you're faced with the choice of either repeatedly reloading a save file and hoping you get lucky with a difficult part (on account of how stupidly underpowered you are), restarting the game so you can level up some more, or dedicating your first playthrough to just killing zombies and ignoring all of the missions.
Thinking about it, it seems as though you have to actually do what amounts to a chore before the game actually starts.
Anyway, regarding DR2, I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not hugely psyched for it. But I should be, considering how much I loved DR1. My biggest problem with it is that it doesn't look like a continuation of Frank's/DR1's story at all. DR1 ended with
Frank and Isabella finding out that Carlito had infected 50 children that had been adopted all over the US; they were basically ticking time-bombs just waiting to spread the infection nationwide.
Not only is that more than a sufficient premise for a sequel, but it seems as if that was actually the original intention. So why is the main premise of DR2 a completely new character trying to find a cure for his daughter?
As if that isn't bad enough, Chuck is attempting to get this cure by taking part in a televised event in which he has to survive being trapped in Fortune City with shitloads of zombies. How the fuck did we go from a terrorist unleashing an unspeakable outbreak on the world that the government was dead set on containing/eradicating, to a world that is accepting enough of zombies to watch fucking TV shows with them? It kind of undermines the horror aspect when you go from a character trying to uncover the mystery behind a viral outbreak to another character willingly taking place in a twisted version of Battle Royale that the whole world is watching for fun.
The trailers and gameplay we've seen, which focus on little more than just different ways of killing zombies, just reflect the different tone DR2 seems to have. DR2 just looks... tacky.

Reread your spoiler and then read what DR2 is about. Seems pretty closely related if you ask me...and knowing Capcom, theres some twist in there to really bring it together. The TV show part does sound kind of tacked on though.
It's saving people you need to be well-levelled for. If I remember right, 52 is the maximum number of survivors you can rescue in a playthrough. I bet that rescuing more than 30 when you're at a low level would be an absolute nightmare.

Based on what we've seen so far, they're not "closely related" at all. That DR2 confirms there was a wider outbreak is an incredibly loose connection at best. And of course, there's still the issue of the world apparently thinking zombies are a source of entertainment. That really undermines the whole horror aspect of a nationwide/global outbreak.

Yeah, but then you're basically just grinding, which just proves my point that you're not playing the game properly until you're at a high level. Saving survivors is a pretty big part of the game, especially considering a lot of them require you to fight a psychopath.
Speaking of psychopaths, have we even seen any in DR2 yet? The psychopaths defined DR1 to me even moreso than the zombies.

Seems like you're not paying attention at all or haven't heard any of the details of the sequel. I'm sure that this will be addressed in DR2:CZ but here goes.
The children were not all found. Some of them did go zombie and a zombie apocalypse has happened in the DR universe. One of the ground zero areas happened to be Las Vegas. After a clean up of that area a new city was built on top of it called... Fortune City. With the advent of zombie apocalypse somehow Isabella's prototype drug got out on the market under the name Zombrex. Individuals who are infected have to take said drug every 24 hours or they will turn into a zombie. The medication is extremely expensive. This has all happened in the span of 2 years since the children were planted. Case Zero picks up there.

Since the military and government was never exposed they have carte blanche to wipe out zombies and deal with things as they see fit most likely. Individuals have started to become desensitized to zombies as the threat wanes and the left over zombies/people who can't afford zombrex are abused on reality television in a safe and controlled environment. Thus shows like TiR come about, where living individuals who need vast sums of money can risk it all for said money. In essence it looks like Frank either failed in what he was attempting to do, which is expose what really happened, or he is in hiding. Or he is dead/zombified. QQ, time to move on, let's follow Chuck's story and see if it provides any leads on Frank.

I am still looking at the game every now and then.
One thing I can say for sure though is I am glad they changed the main character but I am so god damn tired of Frank West already it is driving me nuts, unlike alot of people I didn't think he was cool in anyway.
Though I don't know for sure but I heard the whole timed thing is coming back and that really sucks alot of hype of the game for me.
I'm ignoring it personally because I think it looks pretty lame. I never got hooked on the first one, but I know plenty of people who did and are excited about Dead Rising 2.
Personally I think Dead Nation looks way more awesome.

Dude, on my first playthrough the only person that I was easily able to save was the mother that watched her kid get eaten alive and you know what? That was enough for me. I tried to save some others and was literally shocked at how gruesome the "potential survivor has succumbed to the horde" sequences were...which naturally made me want to see them again. And again. And again.
I ended up saving ~10 people on the first playthrough and purposely killing a bunch more. I had fun.
And the grinding complaint doesn't really fly in Dead Rising because the core mechanics in the game are so damned enjoyable. I never killed 'just one more zombie' in order to level up. I never whipped out my camera unless there was a shot that I felt like taking anyway.
Your problem with the game was that you didn't enjoy it as much as others. The actions became busy work to you and the game really did feel like grinding. Shame, that.
Me too. I used up all my promotional credit from last year on this since it was the only game I was looking forward to that I could preorder before said credit expired and... it looks like I'm probably blowing $50 in credit. =(

DR2 looks to be a game that is utterly lacking in the quirky charm that made DR1 look so appetizing even before release. They decided to implement a seriously lame looking crafting system, creating dozens of "zany" creations that neither have the charm or the humor of the item in DR1. The main character is a tool that lacks the sophisticated caveman look of Frank and the visuals look muddy as all hell. The environment holds no special place in my heart and I find it hard to relate to.
And they fucking got rid of the photography, which I found amazingly fun in the original.
I could be entirely wrong about most of those complaints but--I don't think I am. (shocking)

Fair enough, but it doesn't change the fact that the general tone of the game just looks completely different. DR1 wasn't all that scary in terms of gameplay, but despite that (or perhaps because of it), I thought it was an excellent horror game, because of how relateable it was. It was a perfectly imagined take on what a zombie outbreak in a common shopping mall might be like. Running around and dodging zombies while listening to generic pop music still playing over the mall speakers really made it feel as if an unimaginable tragedy had hit a perfectly realistic, believable, and everyday environment that we can all relate to. So far, it looks like DR2 throws that element of realism out of the window and embraces the fact that it's a videogame. It looks over-the-top cheesy.
They are taking too long for me. When a game takes this long after announcing it and not letting anyone play it seems troubling for me. I'll wait for a demo but I'm not excited for it.
Dead Rising, Lost Planet 1 and Lost Planet 2 are 3 of my favorite games this generation.
I do not have any hopes for Dead Rising 2.
The second it was announced as being outsourced, I've been weary. The lastest videos just shows none of the charm, none of the love and attention to detail, none of the style or humor from Dead Rising. Chuck Greene looks generic, the engine looks like garbage compared to the first game (which is still one of the best looking MT games).
Animation looks bad. Amount of zombies on screen looks lower. Every about this game looks like ass.
This and the new Devil May Cry do not exist. Call me when Inafune and company are ready to properly sit down and put their best guys into making a Dead Rising 3. Otherwise, do not call me.

Dead Rising 2 is gonna be as floppy as Lost Planet 2. and that would force Capcom to re-think their strategy with these mediocre franchises and go back to the drawing board with DMC franchise
The problem with Dead Rising was never the save system. I loved it because you couldn't cheat. This game had balls. This game was oldschool difficult.
The PROBLEM with the game was the leveling. You have to be maxed out or close to it to stand a chance. My girlfriend loved the game so much that I bought if for her, but when she started playing she was like what the hell? I can't get anywhere, this shit is impossible.
So, I actually sat there for like 4 hours got her Zombie Genocider as her first achievement lol and got her decently leveled.
That, IMO, is the only thing wrong with what is the most original, fun, and hilarious game I've played this generation. IMO, infinity mode is like, one of the most fun experiences ever in a game. The main game is cool too, but you never really get to appreciate all this game has to offer until you do infinity, because during the main quest it's too frantic to really play around in the world.

Lost Planet 2 is, above and beyond everything the first game is. It's the first game on steroids. It makes the first game look like a low budget, Xbox 1 title. It's an incredible package, and unlike any other shooter franchise out there, and proud of it.
It just got panned. Plain and simple. It improves the original controls in every regard. For what it is, it's perfect. But. People don't like what it is. People don't "get" recovery frames, juggles, stun. It's not in any other FPS or TPS so therefor it's "bad". People that missed out on Lost Planet 2 missed out on an INCREDIBLE game.
It's a real shame that the Western media is not more open to new and different ideas and games. I still don't understand how wrong they were about Lost Planet 2. To the point where people who loved the first game wouldn't even buy it. If loved the first, my god you must get the sequel. It is leagues better in every way imaginable, probably my favorite 360 game. Behind. Well, Dead Rising.
I don't what Capcom is thinking. Outsourcing your best IP to unproven studios is not very smart. Neither were Bionic Commando and Dark Void. I new BC would bomb and I knew DV would bomb even harder. If I had to guess, DR2 is going to be luke warm reception on the 360 and no reception on the PS3.

I can't really argue as I to believe the rumor I just prey to god it isn't true, or at the very least the DMC team is working on a game with Dante and the one Ninja Theory has is some spin off that stars Trish.
Waiting to see if the Psychopaths respawn. That was even more bullshit then the leveling system in the first game. ChoklitReign pretty much said everything else that needed to be said.
Different, largely unproven developer, which is never encouraging, coupled with the fact that the original was a pretty eccentric game, and they're clearly now going for mass appeal. The videos so far haven't been great shakes technically, either.
The original is a masterpiece and I fail to see how some canadian dev could reproduce this.

Once I found out this game has the same "fuck you, start over" save style, I went running for the hills. I understand why some of you love it, but don't understand why some of you cant understand why others loathe it.
Wow, a lot of doom and gloom about it. It's too bad, the latest ComicCon video I saw was really good. No photography or Frank West is a bummer, but I have a good feeling about it.
