While some of the stuff is definitely out there in terms of logic, there's a pattern to how the game works. Once you get the gist of how it does, you can progress quite easily through all the games.
While I do admit that PW2 is a bit harder than 1, eventually I figured out how to beat the game, you just need to concentrate and think really hard about the various cases.
Don't worry about it. Even though PW2 isn't considered to be that great compared to the other games in the series, it's still a better than average game overall.
What are you talking about? The second PW is the worst, with the last case being the best in the series.
Apollo Justice, while not being spectacular, manages to succesfully introduce a new cast and an interesting story with no weak case.
I hated Apollo Justice with passion. I've already had a long rant about it in the Gemaga's top 10 disappointement thread (Yes AP is in the top 10). The story doesn't make any sense. JFA had a terrible second case with the supernatural stuff but it was never as bad as AJ.
AJ SPOILERS
For some reason even after being found guilty of fraud by a judge Phoenix is in charge of the Jury system. Lamirroir gets shot in a circus in America/Japan end winds up blind in some european country. Trucy's father try to get Phoenix into trouble even though he raised his daughter for like 7 years. Phoenix was found guilty of forgery without evidence. They only had the forget diary page. Edgeworth himself presented fake stuff in PW3 and he got away fine. Besides in the PW unvierse you need decisive evidence and they didn't have any.
I could go on about the characters and stuff but this is not the thread for that.
For me 3-5 is better than 2-4 because of the overarching villain and how well it closes the trilogy, the last image is very powerful. That being said, both are amazing, and I didn't think JfA was that hard, most of the time you can come to a working theory with the evidence you have, but then again I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan, so...
haters just have no deductive skills. that's okay, not everyone can be a detective, but let's not blame the game here! through the whole series, out of the billion puzzles, i can count the stupid parts on one hand. JfA is kinda the worst PW tho, because of all the lame-o cultural references. i think i even spotted something from fucking 4chan, but maybe i just dreamed that one up. however, the last case is truly amazing. i never thought i could get so emotionally wrapped up in such a silly text-based portable game, but when
phoenix throws his head on his hands in despair, an animation not used until that part, i was just like... damn. and the whole matt engarde thing... damn.
I have no problem admitting I used FAQs whenever I got stuck in this series. I loved all the games (mainly for the story) but the gameplay is almost a bit too linear. When you investigate, cross-examine you form many ideas in your head about what sort of evidence you need, what you should present, etc. But the thing with these games is at any given moment, they're expecting you to do something VERY specific to keep the game moving. I can't count the number of times I've talked to someone in Investigation, thought I had an idea of where to go next, only to find it to be a dead end. Looking up a FAQ, you find you had to present some evidence to some guy who in turn would give you the info you need to go on. Or in cross-examination, I've had good ideas of what evidence I needed to present to befuddle the witness, only to get penalized because that wasn't the evidence they were looking for in that specific cross-examination.
It can be immensely rewarding when you go through a streak of presenting all the right evidence and such but still, there are a lot of times where I felt I was just taking leaps of faith with the game.
Am I the only one who thinks the last case in JfA was too long..especially by the end.. It's definitely crazy and emotional but it just seemed to drag on too long. I'm still playing through TT, but my favorite case goes to the last case of the DS version of AA. I loved that case.
2 definitely was the weakest of the 4 PW/AJ games so far, it just feel like re-treading old ground, without the cases doing much either. The only one i really liked was the final one, and even then that one had some weird cross-examinations going on in the early part. These kind of games though, i really try not to use an FAQ, just because it feels more satisfying to do it so. But this game, the story is the main drive that it doesn't bother me if i have to if it means progressing (in the same way Professor Layton is).
I've posted way too often about it, so I'll just state: 1 day, all of these games will be rereleased, you will all replay them, and you will all discover that the circus case is the inflection point for the entire series. AND THEN YOU WILL ALL THANK ME FOR MAKING SUCH COGENT ARGUMENTS ABOUT ITS GREATNESS.
I harbor a deeply seated obsession with the presentation of the Phoenix Wright trilogy (have't gotten around to Apollo yet...) and I feel comfortable saying that the presentation is a large part of why Justice For All feels so weak in comparison. Throughout Ace Attorney and Trials and Tribulations you're constantly provided with fun characters, interesting locations, and memorable music, yet JFA is severely lacking in all of these things.
Pearl Fey and her mother are great additions to the cast, as are Adrian Andrews and DeKiller, but the rest of the new characters are easily forgettable and sometimes downright annoying (most of the Circus case). That's not to say that the cases themselves are bad... the second and fourth cases were pretty cleverly written, the first was a good "tutorial" case, and the third wasn't bad for what was essentially a "filler" case. But it was hard to take any interest in the characters that the stories were built around.
In terms of location, I can remember visiting Kurain Village, wandering around the big top, and exploring the hotel, but nothing about these places sticks out clearly in my mind the way areas from AA and T&T do. I can pretty clearly remember the movie lot, the police station, the lake, and so many more areas from just the first game, not to mention the "monastery" (not the word I'm looking for...) from Trials and Tribulations, the security company, the restaurant.
Music is my single biggest disappointment about the second game. Sitting here right now, I can't recall a single theme from JFA. Actually, I take that back, I can remember ONE...
"Edgeworth's Revival", serving as his theme music in court after his return
. The Cross-Examination and Cornered themes simply don't evoke the sense of excitement that they should. There's nothing like MaskDeMasque's theme, or even the track "Logic and Trick" that plays when you're examining and explaining specific pieces of evidence.
Justic For All isn't a "bad" game, but the overall presentation takes a hit from the first in the series. Besides, it serves as a pretty great lead-in to Trials and Tribulations, introducing you to key players and events while also refamiliarizing you with old friends. Of course, in terms of pure presentation value, nothing can quite top the final case in T&T.
Massive T&T Spoilers:
Spending a full day in the final case as Edgeworth... Pretty much everything Godot ever says or does... and that final MASSIVE simultaneous "OBJECTION!" from Phoenix and Mia, that's powerful enough to call forth the original "Cornered" theme as well as reopening Godot's head wound? All AMAZING.
*sigh*
I really need to get around to Apollo soon... especially with Ace Attorney Investigations just around the corner...

As mentioned in this thread already, trudge through the first three cases (the first is better, but still not super great). After that, hold on tight and prepare for the awesome. It really is a shame for those who quit at this point, since the third one is amazing...and never frustrating to the point of staring at a walkthrough while playing.
