Is it too late to jump into Destiny?

It's arguably the best time to jump in, and this is from someone who constantly flip flops on his opinions of the game. First time you can hit highest level without raiding, sweaty PVP, or needing friends

I'm playing the game on and off since december last year. Finished the main story of TTK this week and I've been playing the crucible a lot more. Still sad that there's no matchmaking for the raids or even the Trials of Osiris though(500 glimmers down the drain :(). It's a fun game but it's soooooo grindy. Also getting a level 20 exotic when you are level 40 is kinda meh. Especially when it can't be infused :(

Not sure if you knew this, but a low level exotic lets you rebuy the higher level "year two" version from a vendor kiosk using legendary marks.

It's not too late, go for it.

Game is still pretty "young" compared to other MMOs so you didnt miss that much... and you will level up to max in the blink of the eye.

Wow it's like fate that this thread exists. I've been contemplating doing this myself, as I feel The Division has ran it's course for me (the end game is just so boring).

Just a question, I know Destiny doesn't have MM (which I still find hard to believe), but can you meet up with people in the crucible for coop? Or is it easier to go through communities (like DestinyGAF)?

Most importantly, do not, under any circumstance, roll a Warlock.
These are fightin' words!

I see plenty of brand new players running around all the time and the latest content update made it much easier to level up your character to max light level. Just keep in mind that the original, vanilla Destiny missions are pretty lackluster, while the Taken King missions are great.

The only places Destiny doesn't have matchmaking are story missions, the weekly nightfall strike, Prison of Elders Challenge mode, and the Raids. Everything else has matchmaking, which you will run on a more consistent basis than anything I listed.

When I'm in the social spaces (tower and reef) I get a lot of invites for people looking to play stuff. I do have an extremely unique emblem on my characters that might contribute to that though. DestinyGAF is great though for finding people.

It's like World of Warcraft - the longer you wait, the better the game gets.

Right now is a great time to get into Destiny. A lot of the tedium has been erased or improved through several updates since launch.

I still say Destiny is the greatest console shooter this gen. The gunplay just feels so damn good.

Now is a great time to delve into Destiny. New update plus all the TTK content coupled with another expansion coming in the fall. Do it young padowan.

the way i see it is that it's super friendly to new players but once you get to end game content then you might start regretting your purchase.

But it should be noted that story missions weren't really designed for a full fireteam. Best to run through them by yourself the first time.

true but even for raids there really should be matchmaking. they pretty much force you to find teams of your own before even starting a game which sucks. that's the reason i gave up on destiny. once i got to lvl 29 i gave up because of the hassle of trying to put a game together.

I guess it's worth asking this question here instead of starting my own thread: I have a PC, which I game on primarily, and a PS3/360. I've been interested in getting into Destiny for a while (sci-fi MMO is the kind of genre that hits a lot of my buttons), and I'm wondering if it's worth picking up for PS3? I don't have PS+ or Gold, so I can only play online on my PS3. However I wonder if the PS3 population is healthy and whether the PS3 version is the same as the PS4 version or if it's gimped in certain ways?

Ahh okay, thanks!

It's not... But you shouldn't. Bungie is getting really predatory with its policy towards micro transactions.

Also Destiny 2 will likely include all content up until that point, so I'd wait a few months until more information is released. In the mean time. Try something like Battleborn, Borderlands, or any other shooter you have access to. Even Uncharted 4 will have a character shooter mode.

LOL, funny guy.

You get three of the new treasures just for playing and the only thing to buy are emotes. Does it tell you check out the store? Yes, once.

Jump in, its very fun.

The PS3 version takes so long to load the character menu during fights that you pretty much can't ever count on being able to change your equipment or use consumable ammo refills, while on the PS4 version this is something you can actually do. Other than that it's pretty much the same but with the graphics set lower.

I'm kind of in the same boat.

Which expansions should I buy? All 3?

Yeah, get the legendary edition that has them all included. Without them the game is practically a demo with the amount of things that become closed off.

I've been wondering the same thing. Been playing a lot of The Division lately and still have Destiny TTK sitting in the plastic. Mainly because I prefer TPS over FPS but I might jump in anyway.

100% agree

But How is the difficulty? Is Destiny a difficult game??
Not at all, especially when it comes to the story missions. Difficulty comes from the end-game stuff, not the "standard" stuff.

Thank you for all the opinions and tips, just bought the Legendary Edition in Amazon for ÂŁ23, really fair price for all the content it offers. I'll introduce myself to DestinyGAF once it gets here, really looking forward to get into the Destiny community!

I actually just got destiny myself just yesterday! I was in the same boat as you!

If you do buy it send me a pm with your psn id!

Sure mate, PM'ed you

Right now is actually the best time to get in OP.
A few tips.
1. Roll a Hunter. Best class. (Coming from a Hunter. Whatever class you choose you'll grow to hate the other classes lol).
2. Ishtar Commander is the best companion app for Destiny.
3. Give The Crucible a chance.
4. Have fun and enjoy Destiny. It's a fun game. Don't listen to the haters. It's a better shooter than The Division in my opinion.

IMO right now is the best time to get into destiny. I bought the game when it came out, didn't like it at all. Got caught up in the hype for the taken King, and have been loving it. The April 12 patch made the game even better. There is a clear path for progression, even at high levels and it is wonderful.

Nooooooooope didn't knew that. Where is that vendor? :o
If you go down into the area with the 3 vanguard handlers there are 2 giant screens on the wall right by the entrance. The one to the left is for exotic weapons and the one to the right are exotic armors. But the only reason you would get year 1 exotics is doing year 1 stuff. So the old prison of elders, vault of glass or crotas end. Everything else will give you year 2 exotics. Where did you get a year 1 from?

No haha, new update has put everything in your grasp. TTK did away with the idea that there are weapons that are important to find. You can get to end game quickly. Although, when it comes to raid mechanics, you will probably struggle to find people with the patience to teach you.

So unless you are joining friends, why bother? Next update will make all old stuff obsolete anyway.

It's definitely not too late! I played Destiny a lot before the first expansion came out and had bought the season pass. I actually didn't play the first or second expansion at all because I had grown to dislike the game because of its loot system. When TTK came out, I bought the upgrade to that since it was relatively inexpensive after buying the season pass.

I played about 30 minutes of it but was really confused about where to go and what to do after being away from the game for so long. At the beginning of last month I ended up deleting all three of the characters I had gotten up to level 25 or so and started all over again. I'm basically addicted to it now. I have all three classes at level 40 and I'm working on getting my light level up to 335 with each of them. JUMP IN! It's great now!

No way, the folks at /r/destinysherpa are great and will take you through the raid(s) teaching you everything you need to know.

Because the game is fun? There will always be a "next update" when it comes to Destiny, so might as well never play it I guess.

Unbiased opinion: The game is really neat and fun to play. I believe you will enjoy it.

I played as Hunter on year one, switched to Warlock after TTK and liked it more. Well, at least before they gimped the class with the last patch. Hunter is good as well, but it was pretty rough to solo Fear's Embrace and some other harder missions with that class.

Never tried Titan, so I have no idea how it plays, and I don't play PVP.

But we are experiencing the same problem as HoW, where the real end game doesn't matter as much and most people have moved on. The few Sherpa that play this way are few and far between in comparison to what it used to.

I may be wrong but this is like when I used to Sherpa/meet with Sherpas during The Dark Below, vs. AFTER HoW came out.

The people playing King's Fall now are either LTTP or don't give as much shit. It takes so long for me to even find a reset group that isn't garbage, let alone a newbie finding a sherpa with the patience.

The great community part of Destiny is not at the door right now. The DLC will bring them back.

And as for my "why bother" I'm trying to think of why Sherpas don't really exist anymore. Although you should definitely get help for stuff like Nightfalls and Black Spindle.
