Is it wrong I go shopping with my Mom for clothes?

I'm not a fashionable person, my Mom is, and as such she knows my judgment for clothes is garbage, so she helps me pick them out and find which ones look good on me. My brother thinks it's bizarre and thinks I'm not a real man because of it, but, again money is tight and I don't like looking like a weirdo picking stupid looking shirts and pants.

Kinda weird... you should know how to dress yourself to an extent...

I still go with my parents occasionally. Like when I needed a suit. I had no clue how to find a suit.

Not at all, unless she has awful taste. People go shopping with friends, siblings, and other relatives with taste they admire in order to pick up tips and get a good impression of what does and does not work. If a parent fills that role, so be it.

It's time to go through the phase all men go through, where your mom stops picking out your clothes and your girlfriend starts doing it.

Why would that be a bad thing? I just honestly can't wrap my head around the rules people make up. Decide for yourself what is appropriate and what is not, and ignore what other people have to say about it. I'm 19 and live with my parents and will continue to do so until I feel that I will be able to support myself outside of the house. There are several people who criticize me for this, but since my parents don't care I'm not going to care either (I pay for rent and food by the way, and I'm in the basement so it's not like I'm being an annoyance).

I have a sense, but, as said imo, everything looks garbage on me, so I end up picking terrible clothing because I get depressed seeing myself in the mirror.

No, it's just embarassing.

Yes, but, it's even more embarrassing is to see my fashion style. My sister says I shoudn't turn away help, and that unless I want to look like garbage, i should suck it up and take her advice.

Shouldn't this go in the forever alone thread?

Lol jk.

I mean if your mother has a knack for fashion then why not? I'd say its a good idea. But learn from your mother this trip and that way you can do it on your own next time.

Also protip: as a man, you can never go wrong with a solid color polo or a plaid shirt.

Hell no, who gives a fuck what people think, if people think jumping of cliffs is cool would you do it too?
EDIT: too much judging and people giving a fuck what others have or don't have, people need to enjoy what they do who they are instead of worrying about that shit

No, I really dont see the issue.Your brother is insecure and silly , don't mind him. I think having someone to help you and give a second opinion while shopping is great no matter who it is, especially if you think you might not have the best taste in clothes.

Nope, when you are a teenager it would be embarrassing but when you are adult nobody cares whom you are shopping with.

why not try out online shopping? and maybe get some input from fashion gaf as well?

And i don't know...I guess I'm insecure but I wouldn't let my mom buy my clothing because I'd be pretty embarrassed.

How old are you?

Guy I work with is 30 years old and his mum buys his clothes, shoes, cuts his hair. It's pathetic and he looks like a retard because of it.

I don't think it's weird at all. If your mom truly does have a great fashion sense, then you should heed her advice. You take who is best at offering assistance, and if it's your mother in your case, there's nothing wrong with that.

there is nothing wrong with that. i buy clothes and swimsuits i think my mom would look hot in and she does the same for me.

i guess that's the mother-daughter bond.

Shopping is a shitty, arduous experience. You should be glad to have someone to help you with that. Finding a pair of jeans that fits correctly can take fucking forever.

If you hate clothing and are stuck in depressing department stores I guess it is.

Everyone is paying attention to you. When you go shopping with your mother everyone will look at you and they will remember forever! Everytime they see you after that they will be thinking: Hey it's that loser that goes shopping with his mother!

The truth is nobody really cares.

Sounds like a good mother.

Be a good son and pay attention to what she is doing so she does not have to do it forever.

I wouldn't think much of it. If she helps you look good, then who really cares.

I'd still advise picking up a bit of fashion sense yourself though. Definitely one of the better self-improvement things I've done in the last couple years. Dressing well makes you feel like a whole new person.

If it works for you it works for you. Even better if she pays. If my boyfriend went shopping with his mom, I'd think it was cute.

Is she just like walking around the store with you picking things out or is she like waiting outside the dressing room and checking how things fit?

I would pay absolutely no attention to the former at all. But I do remember I was at a clothing store and there were these two guys that looked to have been in their late 20s/ early 30s and their mom and dad were in the dressing room and would even come in sometimes. It honestly did really weird me out because they didn't seem to be handicapped.

I've been shopping with my mom since forever. I don't care, she's my mom.

Once you get past ....high school that shit don't really matter, imo.

Nothing wrong with it if she has good taste, but there are resources online so you can learn to do it on your own.

There's a certain point in life where you just stop caring what other people think. I hit that mark freshman year in high school.

Op, some day it will happen for you
