Is it wrong to purchase Switch games on another region's eShop if the price is lower?

For us Canadians: is it moral to set your province to Alberta on the eShop and playstation/xbox stores as they have no sales tax?

I personally don't do this just because I dont have a problem with paying taxes. In the same notion if you buy retail games digitally it's literally $10 cheaper than Ontario (where I live). So I get why people do it.

It's really no different than crossing the border to buy stuff. Based on our dollar games should be $75 CAD but they are $80. If retailers wont adjust why shouldn't we do business to benefit us? They wont look out for us.

Training the individual end consumer to believe that they are not allowed to benefit from globalisation in terms of pricing or shopping opportunities is one of the best con jobs companies have ever pulled.

Oh, I didn't change my account settings, that's why it stayed the same.
Anyway, is South Africa considered a PAL territory?

Yeah seems so, same for Russia.
They all use the same EU site template, I guess that´s also the reason that EU CC work on them.
I hope Nintendo doesn´t restrict that more in the future.

That's my concern. It would be very easy for them to implement, simply add a post/zip code requirement on the payment screen the way they do in NTSC regions and block purchases where a pyament card isn't registered to that country.

The fact they allow purchases across the board in pal regions shows that they obviously don't see a problem with it in my opinion.

If you've ever imported a game from another country this is the same concept but with digital goods. Pubs and devs might not like it but they operate and benefit from the global market too. Especially when it comes to tax avoidance. Don't feel bad.

Whoo hoo -- someone actually noticed it...

One thing that I found interesting is that while one might expect lower prices in Mexico, this is generally not the case. Most titles are cheapest in the United States, in comparison to both Canada and Mexico. While a few titles are cheaper in Mexico, that's rarely the case.

Not odd at all, Microsoft does the same, why? because their prices are actually in MXN, not in USD like PS is still doing it (which, mind you, I find dumb AF, but what can you expect from a company with certain... policies)
Several games (a huge case I remember being yooka laylee ) have been extremely cheap in MXN compared to the US and other countries, but the price was in MXN
All first party titles are always at almost the same price as in retail, most of the games that are actually cheaper in MXN eshop are those without a physical retail version

From the list mentioned before:

Blaster Master Zero
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 ****
Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star ****
GUNBARICH for Nintendo Switch
Human Resource Machine
Kingdom: New Lands
Little Inferno
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
Minecraft
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
Stardew Valley
STRIKERS1945
Vaccine
VOEZ
World of Goo

all these have no physical version with the exception of Extella and Xenoverse 2

People are so good to tell themselves that "I am not doing any wrong, other ppl do it too". Or "It is not my fault that I drove over that kid, she ran in front of my car!". Or "they steal our jobs and take what's ours, they need to go away".

Human is a selfish prick and it is a small wonder that we haven't perished already. We have tried though, many times.

But everyone is in charge of their own actions. If you feel that you have earned the right to buy from the cheaper markets, the you do you. Damn Mexicans, right? They deserve higher prices, that's why we all should buy from there.

I don't like people, humankind sucks. There is some good individuals but as a group we suck and the world will be better without us.

This might be a stupid question but if I buy SonicMania for example in the russian region and then change the region to Europe, does the game appears and "bought" in this new region?

Yes a purchase is tied to an account. You can change your region to anywhere and an existing purchase will show as purchased in all eshops, and can be re-downloaded regardless of the region you have currently selected.

Also when you choose a "region" on mynintendo, you are actually selecting a country as opposed to choosing Europe, North America etc. Countries have their own eshops as opposed to having an eshop per region.

Nothing wrong with it. Companies can feel free to charge these other countries more if they have a problem with it.

Comparing "importing" a digital game to running over a child. But stay self righteous about how much everyone else sucks lol

YES, and Russia is also Europe btw :)

Thank you

I've just changed my region and it worked like intended :)

Has anyone ever told you to stop being dramatic? Asking for no particular reason.

How have the developers of SDV benefitted from global markets?

It’s threads like this that reminds me just how America centric this site is, ya bunch of hard core capitalists.

If a company has tried to do a solid to a poorer nation, don’t be a dick and wreck it for everyone. That’s my 2c.

I think when you're in the US you can pay whatever price you get in the eshop as they are already very low compared to us over here in europe. We can't access them without an American Credit Card. Well at least we can use the Norwegian eShop cause they have about 10-15% cheaper downloads than the rest of Europe, probably because they aren't in the EU and pay with their own currency, the fun thing is, in the end Nintendo will take Euro from your European credit card none the less...

not sure where to ask, but if I use a PayPal card to add funds (based on a UK address, mine) will it work on the Canadian eshop? I already have a Canadian account set
