I haven't touched the system since Gears of War came out. I tried turning it on last night just to make sure that it would be in working order for Halo's release next month. Sure enough, I press the Power Button and I get no video whatsoever. Sound comes through the TV speaker and home theatre, but there's nothing but black onscreen. There is no red ring, and the system seems to be operating normally other than no displaying any video. I am using the Component HD AV cable that comes with the premium pack on a standard definition television (using the r/w/y composite connections, obviously).

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it possible that the cable has just gone bad, or is it the system? How could 360 die without even being used?

I've consulted Microsoft's troubleshooting guide and there's nothing but stupid solutions ("make sure the monitor is on," "make sure the right cable is in the plug"). Suggestions?

If you haven't touched it chaces are you've changed some sort of configuration in your setup without knowing it.

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe it's trying to output an HD signal that my TV isn't understanding.....I get zilch when I plug the yellow cable into the set, but a bunch of blurry blackness when I plug in the component cables. How do I restore to system defaults, though?

Yes, had the exact same problem last time mine went down. Mine was still under warranty and I sent it in. If you are not under warranty I'd leave the thing on until you get 3 red lights and then send it into MS.

Friend of mine came back from a week vacation to a red ringed 360. The system dies when it wants to.

There is a small toggle at the base of the AV cable. Make sure it is set to SD or HD, depending on your set. You may also want to re-seat the AV cable to make sure you have a good connection or try other A/V connections on your television to make sure it isn't the set.

Damn, there is a switch on it? :lol That's probably the issue -- I'll give it a spin when I get home. How in the hell I ever would have switched it over to HDTV is beyond me....maybe fumbling around, trying to connect the optical cable in a dark room late at night.....
