Is Reddit the worst community ?

Rhetorical question because: yes it is.

The biggest problem with Reddit is that the "regulars" don't seem to realize they are a huge hive mind craving for internet points in the name of Karma.

Visiting Reddit today, I noticed a submission "First dinner after divorcing" (or something a long those lines). Was a pretty great post and as I'm sure a lot of single people could relate, it was up voted. You're probably wondering whats the issue here. Well only a few hours later another post is submitted "My first dinner after divorcing a vegetarian", with a picture of obviously various meats.

Flavour of the day.

What a coincidence that two people both were divorced on the same day and decided to post pictures of their first dinners as a single person!

Its so sickening.

Although I do like the little subreddits but even those end up being found by Karma whores who cash in on the "flavour of the day"

Fucking Reddit.

The way the gun nuts have gamed Reddit and systematically downvote any gun control related posts sickens me.

Karma means nothing and if anything, the first few "Flavor of the day" posts tend to be funny. Then they get old and people move onto different jokes.

I hate any forum with any sort of karma / reputation system. I posted actively on XDA until their whole "whoring for thanks" system started. Now it's just NeoGAF for me <3

The specialist communities are generally great, as largely it's where members are focusing their energy on delivering technical advice through a solid background of knowledge and experience.

Whenever there's opinions or sensitive cultural issues at stake though...dear lord.

Depends on the subreddit I think. I was actually surprised with the relatively high quality of a lot of Reddit discussion - it doesn't seem to have the same level of anonymous internet fuckward mentality that you find on, say, the comment section of Youtube. Neogaf can even be worse at times.

So what does that make Gaf OT? Every day there are tons of stories (some even credited to reddit) that pop up here. Oh yeah you just found that story today that was the front page of reddit? Sure. Just like here or any other site it is what you make it - at least for me it is. Most of the posts here or on reddit I scan over and think "who gives a fuck" and move on.

Reddit for me works better if you subscribe to subs that you are interested in then the front page is populated with those more often.

I don't go there too often, but the amount of people that just copy old posts and pass it off as their own work is ridiculous. Just shameless.

I don't know if GAF would be better with Karma or not...Neogaf doesn't have karma, but rather it just has the ignore list. And I tell ya, using the Ignore list gets easier and easier the more you do it.

At first, you keep clicking "show post" over and over when you see the guy you put on the list. But as you get more and more people on there, you just skip over them like they don't exist. It has made some threads (*cough*NCAAMBB*cough*) way way more tolerable.

EDIT: I love Reddit, btw. The top comments are often very informative. The downside is that it's very impersonal.

Eh, who gives a fuck about the people to be honest?

I go there to look at some pictures, read the science/ask science section and read the AMA's with people I like. The commenting system is so broken that it is pointless to read the comments section for subreddits such as pics or funny. The more insightful comments are usually buried among the thousand others.

Just customize with subreddits you like and voila! No more bullshit.

The first time someone goes to Reddit it is absolutely horrible. I got rid of all the subreddits and slowly added the ones I liked over time.

Of course you will still get some bullshit, but that is the internet my friend.

I stick to a few very select subreddits (Darts, Gunpla, Papercraft, etc) and haven't found this to be the case. I imagine it's tied to the subreddits you frequent.

I disagree in certain regards. Thanks to r/theketodiet and r/keto, my husband and I have lost a ton of weight. Probably wouldn't have happened had it not been for those particular communities that made the information accessible and were there to answer questions.

As a whole? Yeah it's going south fairly quickly, but when Digg became shit, I saw the writing on the wall.

If you think Karma means nothing, you haven't been exposed to the real Reddit yet.

You ever heard of a Karma train?

You seen the gimmick accounts just for the purpose of mining Karma?

Theres a little subreddit called "KarmaConspiracy" and so many people have been caught out! Most of the posts are jokes but 1/10 is a serious offender.

Yes I did Keto too, thanks to Reddit. Changed my life but even r/keto operates on flavour of the day occasionally. Especially the "I tried explaining my diet to someone and they just didn't understand" posts. Theres like 5 everyday.

I finally utilized the ignore function for a person over on the gaming side. It's made the place a lot more pleasant. I know what you mean about hitting show post, though.

Yea, other than visiting certain subreddits I don't stay around and post any longer.

Last time I posted about something people prompted to shit all over me just because I provided proof against a highly up voted comment. People don't even formulate counter arguments, they just hit downvote and act like jerk.

Not that this really phases me, but its not worth my time to try and play their games and sprinkle dickhead humor into everything.

Yes by far.

Some subreddits are great though. askscience for example. Although I think that's mostly despite the community, not because of it - the mods are strict and enforce the rules.

I see the same thing with regards to the liberal side of things. One of the problems with reddit, is that it breeds hivemind mentality. And in some cases (like you alluded to) - I'm pretty sure there are political groups on there, where accounts work together to mass downvote things.

r/politics is just awful, because it rejects conversation, and is completely one sided. Even if you generally support the ideologies of that section (like me) - it's still a really awful section. I remember during the election, there was really sensationalist news articles being submitted that FOX news would have used. And yet they were getting upvoted. When the community was called out on it for being hypocrites, and talking about non-issues (something they complained about when it was their side getting hit in past elections) - they just ignored it.

Basically, a lot of the main sections on Reddit are awful. If you want better quality posts, you have to look for the more obscure subreddits.

"KarmaPolice" would have been so much better.

I think it depends subreddit, I assume there are plenty of subreddits with good communities, but they are less popular to appear on the frontpage.

r/tattoo
r/motorcycle
r/justiceporn
r/historyporn
r/earthporn
r/soccer
r/lifeprotips
r/beards
r/DIY
r/circlejerk

This is pretty much my front page

That attitude is one of the most annoying things about reddits. That shit doesn't exist before it graces reddit.

As far as Reddit being the WORST - I kind of doubt it. Maybe it just goes without saying, but any community you spend a long time with, you eventually realize the patterns of how they act/behave. And this kind of repetition of behavior is bound to drive you nuts.

But that has definitely been the case for me with Reddit. If you are on there long enough, everything starts becoming the same shit over and over.

What's so bad about taking the piss? I wish parody threads were allowed here.

Pretty much all of the default or larger subreddits are shit, I just unsubscribe from them. A lot of the smaller and heavily moderated subreddits are great though, like r/NFL and r/TF2 for example.

If you're asking what the odds are that two people in a community of millions have recently divorced, they're probably a lot better than you think.

/cringepics is alright, but not nearly as fun as /b/'s beta threads. 4chan in general isn't bad outside of /b/ actually.

Reddit being a "Circlejerk" was always something I thought was just a silly joke, but after extensive time there, that fucking place is such a cirlcejerk it's ridiculous.
