So what happens if you just take some random passerby hostage? Will the cops go after you? Will you take for ransom money like you can with passengers in cars?
Not sure, but I do know that reactions from others are different depending on who you took hostage and who the surrounding enemies are.

For example, if you take a cop hostage the other cops will hold their fire and try to circle around to get clear shots etc, but if you take a gang member hostage they'll have no problem shooting him to get to you. I'd say something similar would be true if you just grabbed a civilian. Cops would hold their fire, but gang members would shoot right through them.

If you meant you'd just grab someone (non-gang member) out of nowhere while not in a gun fight, it's probably similar to the first. If cops saw they'd go after you or if certain npcs saw, they'd try to help while others would just run.

oh GAF... sometimes I wonder
Well, I for one loved all the customization, mission variety, player freedom, crazy side missions etc that were in GTAIV compared to the past ones and SR1.

Oh, wait..

Well I think GAF hated on SR1 because when the game came out it was still a 360 exclusive and at the same time GTAIV was still considered a Sony franchise. Now that both games are on both platforms people can actually make a more unbiased comparison.

A couple of stores for SR2 which you can eventually purchase and make money with :

nobody_loves_me-copy.jpg

skeeterad.jpg

phucit_bboard_02.jpg

companyofgyrosbillboardc.jpg

All of these new businesses can also be purchased by the player once they've taken over the territory, so we expect to see quite a few real estate moguls popping up in Saints Row 2.

This trailer made me excited for Saints Row 2

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!

Looking at the date of the video, I know why I missed it since I was swamped with work to do around that time period, but I still can't believe I missed it! Especially with those blatant jabs (hell, stabs) at GTAIV!

And I didn't know that it was coming so soon too - the day after my birthday even! Didn't this get delayed till 2009 or something? Oh well, I guess I gotta finish up whatever games I have to finish in time for this then - loved the first one to death and I'd be crazy not to get this one too!

The entire campaign in co-op is gonna be a blast...

The TV thing in GTA IV wouldn't even have been so bad if THEY LET YOU WATCH AMERICA'S TOP HOOKER.. Seriously Rockstar, don't get me hyped up about a cool tv show on the tv and not even be able to watch it.

I liked GTA4's approach much better than any other GTA game so far. To be honest, it's the first GTA game I bought, because it was not about "blowing shit up".

Omg :lol I don't care if you're not suppose to laugh at SR's humour but already I can see i'll have as much fun as the first. I'm still hoping for some brilliantly original tracks from still waters latest star. Some of the songs I can still remember, it's that good/bad.

Bounce like my checks!

Followed MMaRsu's link to the blog (via the pic addy) and grabbed some stuff from the last update:
http://community.saintsrow.com/blogs/

Let’s Pretend-

Outfits are a new feature in SR2 and they allow the player to wear a group of items with one push of a button. At Let’s Pretend, Stilwater’s premiere costume store, you can find outfits to make your character look like a clown, hippie, pirate and more! Don’t like the choices at the store? Once you’ve created a look that you like you can also create your own outfits at your crib wardrobe.
Customization, <3

I guess that after I make my hawt femle ninja, I'll make a pirate and ride my Jet Ski/Speed Boat and pillage unsuspecting boaters. :lol Or wait.. a Ninja Pirate. :O!

Branding-

In SR1 we had several clothing brands that the player could choose from. However, each article of clothing was predefined with the company and logo. So if you wanted your Stalker cap to be an Ultor cap you were out of luck. For SR2 we’re allowing the player to put any logo on any piece of clothing that can have one. We’ve also created new logos and companies for the player to choose from. The logos can even be colored separately.
Even more customization, <3 x2.

FYI the link has all the new stores which weren't listed in his post and the returning ones as well.

As for the stores in general:

Clothing: 4 returning ( Sloppy Seconds, On the Rag, Branded and Impressions), 3 new:

Nobody Loves Me
This is a store for people who love piercings. We have new piercing options in SR2 so that the player can have nose, mouth, and eyebrow piercings along with earrings. Nobody Loves Me is also where many of Stilwater’s bikers can find the clothes that they love.
Leather and Lace
Now that the player has the option to play as a woman we needed to make sure there were clothing items that made the player actually feel like a woman. Leather and Lace is the place to go to make your character feel like that special someone. Here you can find everything from lacey underwear to bondage gear to get anyone excited.
Let’s Pretend
Outfits are a new feature in SR2 and they allow the player to wear a group of items with one push of a button. At Let’s Pretend, Stilwater’s premiere costume store, you can find outfits to make your character look like a clown, hippie, pirate and more! Don’t like the choices at the store? Once you’ve created a look that you like you can also create your own outfits at your crib wardrobe.

Jewelry: 1 Returning (On Thin Ice), 1 New:

Bling Bling
We realize, especially at the beginning of the game, the player wants to be able to shine, but he may not have the cash to purchase the rocks and gold to make himself stand out. Bling Bling is the place to go until then; nice looking bling without the cost. Just don’t ask them where they got their stuff…

Gift Shop:
Stilwater has several new districts, and many of them are tourist friendly!
Look for special gift shops in the museum district, underground caverns and Stilwater University.Stilwater University's Campus store.

Food: 1 Returning (Freckle Bitches), 3 New:

Apollo’s
Stilwater has a ton of cops and they all need a place to eat. At Apollo’s you can find donuts and coffee, which are essential items for those who fight (or perpetrate) crime.
Phuc Mi Phuc Yue
The number of Asian immigrants in Stilwater has risen over the years. The Ronin are a result of that growth. Phuc Mi Phuc Yue is too. Run by mostly Chinese, they feature great takeout, as well as family-friendly restaurants.
Company of Gyros.
At Company of Gyros, expect the staff to run their operation like a well oiled machine. They always have enough resources and manpower to make sure the competition is outmatched. Nothing says taste like spiced lamb, World War II style!

The Ultor Mall, Rounds Square:
Ultor has spent a lot of money to improve Stilwater. One of their biggest projects is the Rounds Square Mall located under the retail district on the north island. A massive consumer mecca, Ultor has spared no expense for the comfort of its patrons. Within the mall you can find several new store types, a two level food court and a conference center.

Along with those, you should still have the usual corner stores where you can buy your liquor/drugs, but the music store (Scratch That) from the first isn't listed. :/

I'm playing GTA4 now, it's pretty awesome. I think it's best in short bursts.
But yea, SR2 will also be good. They're both at opposite ends of the spectrum and both have their place.

Which is, coincidentally, exactly what the SR devs have been saying since the beginning.

No 3d GTA is about "blowing shit up". You're talking about about the 2d top down ones which are ARCADE games.

GTA3 and its sequels were games that sort of let you play loose cannon and cause all kinds of havoc and mayhem in the city for shits and giggles. That rather pointless lightheaded violence urge is absent in GTA4. This made the game more immersive for me. That's what I was talking about. Of course GTA3 was not GTA2.

SR1+2 combined cant touch the GTAIV king.

Ah right king of great story and king of lots of fun stuff to do after you finished the game eh?

More like king of bored the crap outta me.

I'm sick of GTAIV and it's overhypeness ( that's not a word :p ).

Roman " Heee cousin wanna go......."

Me " shoots roman in the face"

I concur, GTAIV wasn't bad from what I played. Just lacked some of what I loved from the others. The over the top works for it well.

After watching the game play videos from ComiCon... Ugh...

Dethrone GTA4... right... :lol

Right so older build + dumb guy playing is final right?
You should watch some of the trailers.

By the way, those comiccon video's? That's exactly why R* never shows gameplay before the game is 100% done. That's really the way to do it I guess.

GTAIV isn't bad, just not as much fun. I would still say San Andreas is probably king.

Older build or not, everything was severely lacking. Specially the crappy physics engine. And the cars handled worst then TDU :lol It's not the kind of stuff that just gets improved for released.

The number 1 feature that SR1/2 has that GTA IV does not:

A garage.

I'm not sure how they managed to make a sandbox driving game, one which features a sub-quest line around car collecting and did not give us the collect them all metagame.

A parking space, are you *%&#! kidding me?

Ah so you played it then?

I liked the physics engine for the first game, bodies flying around was fun, car explosions were cool too.

And the car handling? You know how many ppl bitched about that in GTAIV? The car handling was fine in the first game so I'm sure they are just finetuning things. You can't expect everything to work as planned when you're playing an older build.

But hey you've played it right? Can you tell us more about the game that we don't know about?

-_- assclown.

Yeah I know right? I wanted to store way more cars than 3 at my house. Ridiculous when Saints Row 1 has place for over 60 cars in 1 garage, yet you can only store 3 in a parking space in GTAIV :\

As long as it doesn't force player to tap 'A' to run, it should easily be better. Seriously, GTA4 was bad on so many fronts that it would require a major disaster for Volition to make SR2 worse.

SR1 had you holding RB to run at a constant pace without tapping.

Tapping A was retarded...

wow MMaRsu getting severely butthurt by anyone who disagrees with him :lol assclown? relax champ :lol

I'm just saying how are you gonna judge a game from an uncomplete build that featured like 30secs of actual car driving. That's just bullshit fanboy talk and he knows it. Just calling him out on that.

I'm not saying GTAIV is the worst game or whatever, I really enjoyed GTAIV the first time around, after that not so much.

I just hate it when GTA fanboys come in SR threads just to shit up the thread, and use completely bullshit arguments like the handling is bad. He hasn't even played it, and I doubt he played the first SR ( which had good car handling ).

Physics wise ofcourse it can't top Euphoria, because Euphoria is freaking awesome.

The car handling in GTA4 was trash. Pure and simple. Worst handling of any game I've ever played.

Imo the car handling in GTA4 was okay, took alot of getting used to though.

Mid-mission checkpoints are introduced in Saints Row 2, with the game autosaving at certain points during missions.

Yes! Another thing that was missing in GTA4 :).

Dual-wielding has also been introduced on submachine guns and handguns. Some new weapons in Saints Row 2 are chainsaws. sledgehammers, flamethrowers, katanas, stun guns and shock pads. Satchel charges are introduced, and can stick to walls, vehicles and even people .The player can now pick up and use objects from the environment as melee weapons.

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Oh I certainly hope so. A realistic, yet failed pretense disassociated me from the GTA IV world. Here's hopping.

ARE YOU A SR FANBOY OR NOT!? JEZUZ.

Lol, JK, however the handling in GTA4 was reminiscent of how it would feel controlling a drunk squirrel with one arm.

...

I'm tired. GTA4 sucks balls. There.
