Is SEGA making a comeback in 2017? (In the west anyway)(

Fuck no. FFAWWWKKK no.
Just about the only thing they're still good at is publishing...and even that is questionable. Thanks to them Bayonetta 2 was a Wii-U Exclusive.

Fuck Sega. And that's both the American and Japanese branch. I commend their designers for trying, but they'll never be allowed make greatness under that company again.

Alien Isolation..never forget

They should just release PSO2. More American people want to play that then fucking Hatsune Yazuka Dance REMIX 10

pso2 is Hatsune Yakuza Dance Loli Remix 10. Just in space.

Nobody over here is gonna buy that stupid shit, which is why they haven't bothered releasing or even mentioning it. They don't care.

Dunno that three strong games are qualifications for a comeback.

*Shrugs*

Edit:they should release all their stuff on PC that they haven't put on there yet.

No.

Thats the only answer that i can give atm after they skipped VC Revolution (after VC1 sold allmost 1m copies on steam) and other console title that would easylie make some good money on pc with little effort.

Oh and still no infos about porting more older games.

Daytona USA 3.

I hope with M2, Sega brings Model 3 games like VF3, Daytona USA 2, Scud Race and others home to Switch and PS4.

I just hope that OutRun 3 is as good as the previous ones in the franchise. Actually, I hope Sumo Digital develops it instead of Sega.

Since the turn of the century Sega have been a shadow of their former selves, daytona 3 is near 20 years too late...no new virtua fighter, panzer dragoon, streets of rage...

Making a comeback you say?

Are you telling me we're finally getting a competent port of Sonic 3 & Knuckles for 3DS, Vita, and/or Switch?

Maybe not for port beggars, but It's certainly a comeback.

I have Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Hatsune Miku Future Tone, Valkyria Revolution, Persona 5 and Sonic Mania in my wishlist for next year. I don't even remember when was the last time I was expecting so many Sega games in a single year.

It sounds like the argument being made in support of the thread title is that Sega is releasing some games, but all of the listed games combined sell less than Football Manager or Total War do every year, so I think it's more like "For Sega fans who like Japanese games, is SEGA releasing some games in 2017?"

I thought port begging wasn't allowed? Anyways, yes, next year looks really great for them even if Shenmue 3 gets delayed to 2018 (which it most likely will imo).

SEGA 2017 is an exciting SEGA to me in many fronts and i am gonna tell you why..

Localizations:
they are doing an amazing job recently! i mean two major Japanese centric games confirmed for localization even before their Japanese launch!
Yakuza 0 + Kiwami + 6 all within a year! (Q1.2017-Q1.2018)
Project DIVA future tone or in another words the ultimate & the definitive ver in the series yet.
Valkyria Revolution even though i hated this spin off -a lot- but the localization job is surprisingly fast here and sure that it's appreciated.
Puyo Puyo Tetris one of the most interesting releases in the recent memory is getting localized finally. (or highly rumored at the moment)
and from ATLUS there are Persona 5 (which already clearly looking better than any of the past games from what i saw) and Etrian Odyssey V (which has a decent followers).

new confirmed titles:
SONIC MANIA & Project SONIC 2017 i haven't been this excited about SONIC for a long time! Sonic Mania has the potential of Being as good if not better than the Genesis era releases. Project Sonic 2017 also has every potential to be a great game with the insane amount of time being in the development and considering this the first high budget sonic title since Generations from Team A (responsible for Unleashed/Generation) and the first game in this generation.

on Arcades:
one game is a returning classic and the other is a complete new ambitious IP by AM2
Daytona USA 3 enough said. even though i am not pleased that it's not by AM2 and with a small budget it seems.
Soul Reverse now here i am super excited to see this in motion since it's the biggest game from AM2 since BORDER BREAK. it's another take on a big PVP battlefields but involving human based animations rather than robots with a theme closer to Dark Souls games.

unconfirmed releases and announcements:
SEGA PC ports we've been promised many times regarding those, but recently we received confirmations about news in early 2017.
Nagoshi's new project confirmed by Nagoshi himself after the end of Kiryu's saga with Y6 it's a new start to them saying "it would be something different" (must be the game the other half of team being working on for sometime)
Valkyria's team next project it's confirmed by the director Ozawa that they would hope to be able to reveal something new this year (might be VC4 or something else)
Phantasy Star announcements in the memory of the 30th Anniversary of PS and the 5th Anniversary of PSO2. (here it could be anything really but the way they put it with two anniversaries?? hmm)
and from ATLUS there is an already previously revealed game13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim which could finally be ready for this year.

also on a personal level i highly believe VF6 is underdevelopment. i hope they will be able to finally announce it this year.

Sega have been going in the right direction. For me the hinted PC announcement will be most interesting, although I am concerned it will not be what most hope for. Vanquish would be amazing, while any Yakuza-game would be a surprise of Valkyria Chronicles-level proportions. Skies of Arcadia/Shenmue is probably to ask for too much.

For fans, yes - they seem to be focusing more on their roots and bringing over more games that their fans want.

But as a major third party developer? Probably not - outside of Sonic and Persona, most of their stuff is probably too niche to compete with the likes of EA, Activison, etc.

Binary Domain 2 Hype

I FUCKED UP OOPS AND HIT SUBMIT TOO EARLY OOPS

Anyway just noticed lots of great Sega games releasing next year. Sonic Mania, Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, Persona 5, possibly Puyo Puyo Tetris. That was what I was trying to point out. Anyway, oops.

No Console? No comeback!

Also: What is with all the Steam gamers portbegging in eveyr thread. Seriously, maybe it is time to just call steam a Platform rather than "PC gaming" as it is technically on PC< but it is in competition with other platforms both on and off PC, and it has fanboys that portbeg, and fanboys in general. It even has their own Kaz Hirai in the shape of Gabe Newell. :P.

Bullshit. Shenmue HD is not too much to ask for at all. Would sell better than PSO2, Hatsune Miku, Skies of Arcadia and possibly Yakuza will. People are curious about Shenmue now that 3 is coming out. It only makes sense for them to re-releases 1 and 2 whereas Skies is a dead series, so if they have to release just one, it should be Shenmue since that's actually alive. That, Outrun 2, Panzer Dragoon series and Jet Set Radio Future since they're all vastly superior to Skies.

You have no idea what you are on about.

i guess you don't know

Welcome to the new Phantasy Star lol

Just about every aspect of this franchise was utterly destroyed in order to make room for moe kawaii bullshit. And the aesthetic isn't the only problem I have with the game, it just isn't fun anymore.

I played the game from 2 alpha tests up until about the launch of Episode 2. The gear system is busted, the stage design is horrible, it has worse balance than PSO or PSU ever did, and it's probably the most grindy game i've played since the old FlyFF / Maplestory days.

Edit:

god damn this post sounds bitter. Sorry.

they're doing great with sega games. will buy all yakuza games, puyo and persona 5. maybe sonic. just keep making more blue sky games.

keep this course. i don't need any knockoffs.

I don't doubt it'd probably dissapoint me but I'd at least like Sega to give me the chance to be dissapointed by it properly :P

PSU made me genuinely believe that whatever they thought PSO was was different from what i was getting from the games. Phantasy Star Zero had a lot of what I would've liked to see from the series, retaining the slower paced methodical combat with even greater variety between weapons while giving some flash in the form of the new specials. PSU went full faceroll by comparison and I don't really feel like I had to develop different approaches to the various enemies in the same way as PSO required of you, especially at the higher levels.

Definitely an exciting year for them

now where's my Shenmue 1+2 HD
No Shenmue or Steam support no purchase!

I am only picking up Zero, Kiwami, Persona 5, Etrian Odyssey 5, Sonic Mania, Total War Warhammer (still have to get that) and Yakuza 6 in early 2018. Otherwise no support from me, Sega!!!

An unreleased 2D Sonic does a company's comeback not make. I'm super excited for it though!

What we have seen is Sega Europe killing it on the PC front; SoA has gotten a sense of humor; and, Yakuza seems to be gaining traction in the west.

What we see is Sega gradually laying the foundation to make a comeback.

still no PC support

Sonic Mania is essentially an endorsed fangame. It only exists because some guy outside the company put more time into a classic physics engine than a company full of Sega employees. It's also the only reason why Sonic 2 and Sonic CD has a mobile release.

Aaron Weber
has a sense of humor. He has always been the only redeeming quality of Sega's representation in the west.

You should have lived through the Phantasy Star Universe days when Sega made him address all the forums and basically tell them that the game wasn't going to get any new updates because Sega of Japan doesn't give a fuck about them anymore.
