If you like nonsensical shows with laughable characters and terrible actions scenes, then Sons of Anarchy is for you.

If you do watch, you better be prepared for a bunch of people making the worst possible decisions they could possibly make to resolve even the most simple of situations and conflicts. Every. Single. Time.

Also, be prepared to follow the exploits of the least likable bunch of characters ever created. Not a single one of them has even the smallest bit of charisma (except maybe Chibs). By the time you get caught up, you will not have a single bit of sympathy for a single one of them and will be actively hoping for their death.

Another thing to prepare for is the worst case of nepotism from the showrunner ever, as he constantly keeps his real-life wife (Katey Sagal) involved well past the character's use-by-date. He is also abusive and critical of anyone who dares call him out on the stupidity and poor quality of his show.

Oh, lots of episodes run well over time for no particular reason and there are loads of inexplicable montages set to really terrible music which are often sung by Katey Sagal (more nepotism).

Also, no one can shoot straight. Ever.

Season 3 is pretty shit so much so it has put me off watching past episode 2 of season 4. I gotta admit I thought
Jax was a rat. I was just sick of the dickhead priest and every one not giving Abel back for a whole season.

It has its moments, but there are other shows you might consider watching first. Sons of Anarchy isn't a bad show, but it isn't that good either.
I wouldn't recommend putting time into watching the show unless you literally have nothing else to do / watch.

season 3 is sort of a mixed bag but fuck me if the ending isn't one of the best season endings ever. so good.

currently watching season 5 and still enjoying it. what a start to the season (episodes 1-3).

for what it's worth my friends are begging me to watch it. i'll cave because all the good shows have ended except boardwalk empire and mad men, and those are off-season and winding down.

lol I actually meant to put Breaking Bad but my mind must have thought Mad Men. Yeah MM is basically a soap opera for dudes too but the writing is on a whole different level from SoA. SoA has sequences that could have been pulled straight out of the A-Team or CHiPs.

smh .

Also watch Justified.

Tough but fair. Still a fun show if you switch your brain off to watch though.

Anyone willing to echo this?

Perlman and Segal were awesome casting decisions. Hunnam, though... not at all believable for me. I guess they wanted to bring in the women. Too bad.

The only season I'd skip is season three. Just watch the premiere and finale and move on to season 4. Season 4 is ok while kind of annoying and 5 + 6 are pretty good.

If you skip season three you may miss some details between the club and the irish but overall not a single damn thing happens that season. It was boring and hard as hell to watch.

I saw a few episodes this season and it's pretty crazy. haven't seen any earlier episodes. it definitely seems okay, but I'm gonna watch Justified next.

there's a good transgendered character

First few series are a good watch. It's so tedious and annoying now, though. If I didn't know the next season was the last I would probably stop watching as the latest episode was horrendous. I am fairly patient but Sutter hasn't got a fucking clue when to let go of things.

season 5? I watched that episode yesterday, fucking lost it haha. so good. (not gonna spoil it for anyone just watch)

Heh, this is where I stopped watching on my marathon a few months back. Been thinking about just skipping to the season finale, and I think I will now. Of course, I'm watching Boardwalk Empire so it might be awhile.

I started a couple of weeks ago and I'm at the beginning of season 4. I've thought about watching something better as the last couple of episodes really have been tedious to watch. Still have the Shield and Luther to watch and the new HBO series is supposed to be pretty good as well.

The sad thing is the season probably has the shows best premiere and finale of any other season.

I started a couple months ago stopping at the start of season 4. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons but man, season 3 is like some Naruto/Bleach filler type shit. Literally nothing happens for the full 13 episodes. I see that S4 is going for a S5 The Shield type of situation which seems appealing but I'm struggling to mustre up the will to continue.

Seriously, season 3 could have easily been 1 or 2 episodes.

Overall I like the show. Season 3 I thought was kinda crappy, but then it got better.

One major thing that irks me about it, though (spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen up to and including season 5):
You mean to tell me that this Jax character's wife Tara is offered an amazing position as what, head neo-natal surgeon in a hospital in a different state, will probably be making hundreds of thousands a year, and this moron DOESN'T want to pick up stakes and leave this shit behind? Like, not even considering it? Wtf?? You have an opportunity to lead a quiet life, where your wife and kids will actually live, and you can play motorcycles all you want while your wife is performing heart surgery on babies, and you won't have to kill anyone ever again. I don't know that I could associate with someone so dumb.

I initially really enjoyed the show as it seemed to have some relatively complex characters, good interactions and the stories felt believable and tense. However, the last few seasons have really soured me as I feel that most of the development has stopped and character motives have been altered without the adequate justification. Plus they have fallen into that spiral of constantly having to be bigger and bolder than the previous season which has resulted in a lot of plot points and set pieces that are utterly outlandish. At this point I will watch the rest of it as I am already this far in, but I will probably put it on the back burner for a while and explore better options.

I really enjoyed the first 2 seasons but S3 was awful. I got about half way through S4 and thought it had become really stale.

I've watched the first 5 seasons and I think I'm done with it. It's solidly entertaining throughout, but it's just the same shit every episode and I just don't see it changing. I actually think the comparison "soap opera for dudes" is pretty apt. There are worse shows though and I had fun with it.

/edit: I actually thought S3 was fine, not much worse than the others.

You quit right before the show is heading in to it's end game. I agree with you that it was getting to the point of it being the same thing over and over again, but the 6th season season really set things in motion for what Sutter has said will be it's last season. At least from what he's said in the past. If you watched that long I would say it's worth sticking around for the final seasons.

if you like motorcycle drama in the same vein as Renegade then yes. go for it. the show is ridiculous and mildly entertaining.

I live by the rule of judging for yourself. If you live in the US i believe both Netflix and Prime has it as well as the FX app. I really, really, really enjoy the show. I enjoy it so much i bought a SAMCRO and i never buy tv related apparel (aside from TWD).

I recently watched that episode too. At first I was like, "Is that who I think it is?" Blew my mind.

I really liked the first two seasons and then season 3 happened and I just sort of lost interest. Season 4 and 5 (so far) are an improvement.

Spot on assessment.

I'd been meaning to get around to starting this, and made a point of doing so this morning. In fact, I just finished the first episode and part of the second.

Is this a show that starts off slowly and gets a lot better before petering out? I remember that, when the finale aired, people were going crazy over it on Facebook and online. However, there seems to be a lot of hate towards it.

The honest truth is that I'm not sure if it's for me. The pilot was boring, the premise of a biker gang doesn't interest me much, but I wanted to give it a chance since it was supposed to be one of the best shows on TV.

I was too bored to watch more of the second episode. I don't know if it's just my mood, or just the show. I know I haven't given it much time, so I probably should give it more.

Favourite shows:

1) Six Feet Under
2) The X-Files
3) Breaking Bad

lol damn, OP here. I never did get around to watching this. Also this thread got a two year bump in 2014 then another bump a year later.

Yeah, if you like watching guys in leather cry.
Season 2 was really good. The rest are ok.

If you want a fx show that's still relatively new, watch Justified.
This has my vote.

Edit: What the hell. I really should start looking at the dates on these post.

I've seen every episode. It's a good show, the problem is in the later seasons, the main character, Jax, is thrown into so many different directions you have no idea what his motives/goals are. Also, in the later season an average of 25 people are stabbed or shot in the face per episode. It get really old.

I think it's terrible. The Australian dudes American accent being a thorn in my side every time he opens his mouth.

Pass.
Who is that supposed to be?

Watch the first couple seasons and skip the last or better last two.

I watched a few seasons. It's ok, but I didn't really like any of the characters so I kinda fell off when the show got into a lull. I have a difficult time watching a show where almost all the characters are despicable assholes.

I loved the show. It had issues in the last couple seasons, losing some focus and falling back too much on shock violence and convoluted plotting. Action, drama, dark humor, wide array of memorable characters...it's worth watching. :)

No. First season or two was pretty good (I'd never say it was a great show), but the quality drop off after season 3 (which in itself was only ok) is horrendous. I didn't even bother watching the last season; I just read episode summaries. Sounds like I made a very wise choice.

This show gets almost as bad as Dexter and Weeds in terms of having something good early on and then ruining it.

"GUYS WE JUST GOTTA DO ONE MORE JOB"

Whoever compared the show to A-Team/CHiPS is pretty spot on in terms of analogy. It feels like a show that should have aired 15 years ago.
