Is TAS version of Batman the best version of Batman?

TAS was incredible until they changed the animation to either match the Superman show or simplify it for cost reasons.

I remember the first time I saw that version of the Joker, I actually thought they were doing an episode where everyone just looked really weird.

I'm so glad they changed it later.

It would be hard to argue against it. It's definitely the most complete depiction of the character. Detective. Martial artist. Tactician. Master of disguise.

BRAVE AND THE BOLD is up there and everyone should watch it.
Oh yeah, forgot about TAS going through the late quality drop. I vaguely remember losing interest during the original run.

DCAU is usually the best version of anything. Ugh. It pains me to say it's been a full decade since it ended with the Justice League Unlimited series finale.

Yup.
The show gave us Harley Quinn and "Heart of Ice" as well. It's hard to compete.
Honestly, it's probably the best superhero cartoon.

I have a HUGE place in my heart for the 60's Batman.

But yeah, TAS is pretty much the prefect version of the character.

I enjoyed it very much, although I wish they had based more episodes on the comic book storylines and done some multi episode arcs.

TAS was incredible until they changed the animation to either match the Superman show or simplify it for cost reasons. The style got too cheery for me.

That was The New Batman Adventures. BTAS had a different tone to it; looking back it handled a lot of topics with real gravitas - the impacts of drug-dealing, organised crime, etc. TNBA was more light-hearted and super-villain based.

Yeah probably. There's alot they couldn't do with him though by the nature of it being a kids show. But he's still pretty damn defining.

Pre-Crisis Batman is the best Batman....when he was "just" a Detective.

Batman TAS had the best Mr.Freeze, but an awful Bane.

So good. TAS had some outlandishly good episodes for being a kids show. Still some cringe as with any other kids show, but the darker episodes were so well done it was crazy. And mask of the phantasm is brilliant.

No.

It's decent but highly over rated with the perception of it being great being pushed more and more. I could say that ratings proved that since it never did great, neither did the Superman cartoon either but honestly it was a pretty good cartoon at best. There have been better Batman characters and better cartoons.

I'm one of the crazies (

) who thinks this:

... is just as good as TAS. Two sides of the same coin! Whereas the animated series portrayal is as definitive as it gets for '80s era and onward Batman, The Brave and the Bold is the definitive Silver Age version, and it NEVER gets the amount of love and respect it deserves. A damn shame.

But yes, TAS still rules and has a fantastic version of the character.

Yep.

TAS Batman is not only the best Batman for my money, but imho he was the best adaptation of everything Batman and melding the old with the new, the light-hearted with the dark and gritty.

Best Batman and the best Joker.

I thought maybe there might be some kind of underground Batman material I didn't know about.

Glad I'm not crazy.

When I think batman, TAS batman will always be the simulacrum my subconscious draws upon. Doesn't matter how good the Nolan Trilogy was, as time has passed, I realize Kevin Conroy and company are still my batman.

I've been rewatching the Brave and the Bold and it's good for the laughs but it's not what I think is the definitive version of Batman. It's like saying the Adam West Batman is the perfect adaptation. They're both great, but yeah, not what Batman really is.

BTAS is by far the best version of Batman. Such a great show.

DCAU nailed every character, or, at least, it nailed so many that I can't think of a single one that isn't my favorite incarnation of that character.

I think this is the first objectively bad opinion I've seen.

It's bad because of its ratings? It's highly over rated ... (because?).

And you claim that there "have been better Batman characters and better cartoons" - well, go ahead then. Share them.

The thing with Brave and the Bold is that people love it for all the references, and subverting Batman tropes at the time. I don't think it stands so well by itself.

CO2E, Young Justice and Red Hood Batman are better than TAS Batman.

Okay, you, you're crazy. (Red Hood was good, though.) Crisis on Two Earths was Batman at his herp-derpiest. It was a room full of superheroes and reminders about how fragile Batman was, in an almost patronizing way. He does one half-decent thing, but he otherwise rushes into things, makes tons of mistakes, GLOATS TOO EARLY like he was Wally West, I seriously think whoever worked on that script was tired of Batman always being on top of things and wanting to knock him down a few pegs, without good reasons for it. My favorite part is that his plan to stop Owlman after 5 seconds of talk is "I'll punch him!" Then he sabotages the machine. And the only reason that works is Owlman gives up. And there was nothing to indicate Batman was counting on that.

Also, massively shitty thing: Tricked a villain into wasting most of his life to keep Flash from doing it, instead of being straightforward about it. That really, really struck me as off.

How you could put that one on the same list with those other two, I don't know.

I'd say so.

As far as movies go I really like Batfleck, hands down the best suit, and the fighting is pretty great in BvS when he's
saving Clark's mom, I just wish he didn't kill people.

Better question is what's the best version of superman.

I'd also say TAS but I'm curious what GAF thinks.

IMO Superman has never quite been done right on screen. TAS and Reeve were both good, but I felt there were things missing. His best interpretations are still in print form.

Character-wise the TAS version is one of the best.

Story-wise it's not even close. There are so many great Batman writers and stories in the comics over the last 40-50 years the good ones trump anything the show has to offer.

The show got great ratings and rave critical reviews. The notion that the show is great is not a recent thing, it's been there since day 1. I remember reading countless articles in mainstream publications praising it.

DCAU Bruce died alone and for good reason.

Not a single Robin carried on the mantle and for good reason.

Barbara hates his guts and for good reason.

Clark or Diana never visit his old ass and for good reason.

Terry was the only one that barely tolerated his bs due to biological sympathy.
