Ok folks, my PC specs:

AMD athlon 64 3800+ (socket AM2)
Abit KN9 SLI, nforce 570
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT 256 MB GDDR3
2 GB of RAM DDR2 667
600 watts ATX power supply

now, with games like crysis and Hellgate london (OMG yes!) I'm really concern about my rig. what do you recomend? change processor? buy geforce 8? get another geforce 7600?
Please, I beg you GAF! serious answers... btw could you recommend me a online store (besides newegg) very please? :)

No answers like this one: get a Wii/PS3/360 ok?

Your computer is pretty powerful as it is. Since the games you are talking about are still a little ways off id just say wait.

the things you probably want to replace for Crysis is the GFx Card and processor. whatever you can afford at that point you want to upgrade, wait until the games have hard store date.

i have always been happy with mwave.com

You say my PC is powerful as it is... but tell me why I'm having problems playing games like Oblivion and condemned? 30 FPS! I can't accept it on a PC :lol

btw, is the geforce 8 vista ready?

Is your PC actually struggling? seems like your rig is more than enough to handle anything being thrown at it.

For a cheap boost though go ebay for a cheap 7600gt and run in SLI.

Getting a bleeding edge ANYTHING right now is insane though. Right now is good for anyone still playing catch up and wants some cheap middle range gear.

Put your big bucks away for this time next year.

that is more setting dependent with your hardware then related to the games. turn off things like FSAA or AF.

What resolution do you play at? I think that's the question-if you are shooting for anything higher than 1280x1024 a 7600GT is sort of rough-the 7600GT is the sweet-spot for that particular resolution, though IMO.

Crysis and Hellgate are a few months down the road. It might be enough time to see what AMD's answer to Core 2 Duo will be (which will almost certainly run OK on AM2 boards like yours) and for a sweet-spot DX-10 upgrade like a 8600GT to show up and be widely available.

So unless you have a LCD with a really high native resolution, I think you're safe to wait for a few months.

Damn dude.

Right now, what can't your computer play?

No kidding. My computer was pretty nice a year ago (not top of the line, but played most everything pretty well). If your rig is obsolete, it's time for me to give up altogether. :(

Oblivion runs like molasses on everything. Outdoors even the 8800GTS systems running at a decent resolution chug chug in Oblivion. Upgrading doesn't buy you much for that game, to be honest.

Dunno about Condemned. The Geforce 8s are official DX10 cards, and are the only cards out there that are. It's also Vista ready, but then again your 7600GT is Vista ready too.

ok, ok!

I'll wait till vista is out... I gues is the wise thing to do.... but now I have another inconvinience... meanwhile I could really get another 7600

The thing is SLI works with identical video cards... now my doubt:

This is my video card

But I can't find it anymore, but there's another model, wich is this one

MS-V045-11S.jpg

The main difference between them is the first one supports HDCP - High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, the second one doesn't support it. without this difference they have the same specs...

I'm playing in less resolution than 1280x1024 and I still have a CRT :lol

Maybe 'cause I love activating FSAA and AF, I'll try without 'em

btw prey runs smoothly on my pc (60fps) so I dont understand why others games don't like far cry :lol (50 fps) and it's a 2004 game!!!

Id wait till March/April. Theres stuff like quad core out as well as Vista so it will drop prices of dual core. I was going to upgrade mine but I decided to blow the extra and get a Sony x as well as a PS3 (I was going to get a Sharp Aquos and upgrade). I just reliased when I got BF2142 and COH that they play just fine on a old 3gig p4 with 6800 ultra for now. Resistence is well worth it anyway.

The FarCry thing is weird.

I don't think you'd see huge gains in most games by adding a 7600GT if you are running at a resolution lower than 1280x1024, even if you do turn on AA and AF. If you are adventurous, you can see if you are CPU-bound by OC'ing the processor and running some comparison timedemos or FRAPS runs versus the Athlon 64 at stock levels.

Thats crazy, I got 70+ out of that game on my 3400+/6600gt/1GB PC3200.

I'm upgrading to 7900GS/2GB ram as soon as I can be bothered to rip my PC apart (new mobo). Gonna get a new mobo/processor , some DDR2 RAM and maybe throw in another 7900gs later this year.

D10 can wait.

I'm guessing is my mobo, I have a Sound blaster audigy 2 sz I installed it and my stupid PC terribly slow down... so I have to took it off, do you think I should get another mobo?
Asus maybe? MSI?

I've got that card, alot of game specific issues tend to come from it, but it's always given me awesome performance when i've got it sorted.

How long since you last formatted? Maybe your HD/registry is just generally clogged.

Since... eehhmm... 3 or 4 month ago.... the sad thing is I have to use the integrated sound and can't get to work my 7.1 speakers ... :(

I am waiting till UT2007, Crysis, HL2 and the others come out.

The prices for Core 2 Duos probably won't drop much in the next 6 months but video cards will. I am waiting on a cheaper GF8xxx series card.

NEVER use integrated sound. Totally rapes your processor. If you have to go buy the cheapest hardware soundcard you can find, go search through bargin trays at weird backalley parts shops.

If you are maxing out FSAA and AF than that's your problem.

There is NOTHING wrong with the set up you have. You current set up is Vista Premium ready by a long shot.

Don't change anything, and for god sake don't by a graphics card for future games. Wait until the day it comes out and then by something.

If by rapes you mean drops it by 2-4% then...It's not really all that bad

Damn, 600 watts. You must have been planning for the future for that system cause it's overkill as it is. Don't upgrade yet, WAIT for for the dx10 cards (as you have a power supply that will be sufficient for them). Might wanna get a dual core athlon too, I know that Crysis will be taking advantage of multi core systems.

To get oblivion running smoother, try 1024x768 and edit the oblivion.ini file in "my documents\my games\oblivion" and change the variable "iMinGrassSize=xxx" to something like 120 or higher. Oblivion uses a ton of alpha textures for foilage, and that's very fillrate intensive (not one of the 7600gt's strong points). That variable spaces out the grass and foilage textures so there is less of it. As for farcry, you are being way too picky about framerates, it can vary in that game quite a bit even with powerful hardware. Near the end of the game near the volcano, it still runs like shit for me. If you want a better framerate in that game, just try lowering the shadow detail.
