Is the WiiU Pro Controller one of this gen's most underrated controllers?

I use it for FFXIV and it's basically amazing. The insane battery life means I'm hardly ever interrupted. Digital triggers makes it far easier with XIVs control system. And it has an actually half decent D-pad.

It's a good controller, the best on a Nintendo console since the SNES. That said, other than battery life, nothing about it is as good as the Xbone or PS4 pads.

The digital triggers are, tbqh, the greatest feature of the controller. Makes dodging and attacking in games much more responsive, AND gives me a lifetime supply of salt over people who can't see that it's objectively superior for 95% of games. Quite divine really.

No, because they let you choose your own replaceable battery. Which will be appreciated more when all of these inbuilt batteries start losing their charge and becoming permanently tethered to the console or worthless pieces of plastic.

Because there's all the PS3 controllers floating around with dead batteries? I haven't heard of any. There's a whole range of other things that can break a controller before battery. And you can still play wired on PS3 without a battery.

Calm down.

Options are better than being restricted to a single, unremovable battery.

Options doesn't mean they can't include a rechargeable battery that's removable. They should. Especially with the Elite. It's pretty indefensible for the price.

No games I've played with it have made use of it then, and I've had the pro crontroller since launch....Made me feel like it was absent of rumble.
Does it have lame cell phone rumble like the last few Nintendo controllers?

You clearly have turned rumble off by accident somewhere or have only been playing virtual console games. The Pro Controller has fantastic rumble that you definitely would notice while playing a game that uses it.

Made the system useable for me. The game pad felt imprecise for those tough platform jumps. Pro fixed that.

Should've dumped the game pad in favour of this, and drop the system price $100 two years ago.

They COULD include a plug and play kit with the controller, you know. Especially with the Elite Controller, considering how pricey it is.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure you can replace the battery on the 3DS and Wii U GamePad.

Awesome build quality
(LOL, DS4)
LONG ASS battery life
Great comfort
Just a great controller over all

Then you get this

and you have gaming bliss on the pc.

It's a good controller but I think it's inferior to the PS4, XB1 and 360 controllers.

- Placement of right stick and face buttons should be switched.
- No analogue triggers
- Glossy
- Too light, feels a bit cheap

Why yes, I upgraded my game pad battery. How generous of Nintendo to include a battery to begin with!

The Play and Charge kit isn't specifically designed and you could use most, if not all Micro USB cables (which are about as common as AA batteries this day and age) for your wired play.

I understand your argument, at least and I can empathize.

It's an amazing controller, but it seems better than it actually is because most people using it will compare it to the Wii U gamepad, and compared to the gamepad it's miles better

In real terms it's probably as good as the DS4 and XB1 pad, though it has much better battery life and build quality (than the DS4 anyway) and also lacks a stupid light, so it maybe beats the DS4 on that alone

Wish I could use it on PC

It's probably my favorite of the bunch. If it wasn't so complicated getting it to work on Windows 10 I'd be using it there.
I hope the NX controls takes a lot of ideas from it but with better triggers

Doesn't mayflash work on Windows 10? I have windows 8.1 and it is perfect.

It's, I wish the DS4 battery life could be only half of the WiiU Pro's.

With that it's plug and play like the 360 controller or you need some software?

Well if we're going down this road we won't last forever either.

Batteries will discharge long before all of the switches in a pad stop working.

People are replacing their broken gamepads more so often than you think (source:google broken gamepads). Rechargeable battery life is the least of concerns.

It's, I wish the DS4 battery life could be only half of the WiiU Pro's.

Install its driver then you are good to go.

It's far from underrated around here. Amazing battery life, but it's the weakest of the main three for feel, for me.

Beats the Gamepad though.

If anything it is over rated. I never see anyone bagging on it. It has great battery life and buttons but those triggers are garbage tier. It also feels incredibly light and cheap. I like my controllers/mouse to have a bit of weight to them. It is also not well supported by the console itself. There is usually some gimmick that uses the gamepad that you need to have it around for. I would have vastly prefered to not have to blow into a mic, do some stupid gyroscopic aiming etc and use the Pro controller for a lot of games.

Controller really isn't that great. The XYAB buttons are awkwardly placed too far to the left. It causes a very unnatural reach with the thumb. This alone makes the controller subpar. I have at medium to large hands and this is an issue.

One of the most overrated on GAF, IMO. It's good, but nothing really special outside of the battery life and the trademark Nintendo D-pad.

Glossy finish is awful and would prefer better analogue stick placement. The rumble is weak. Would also like the controller to have a little more weight to it.

Underrated? No. The general consensus is really good.

I think the face-buttons are a little too close to the centre and the triggers should have been analogue. But the last part is understandable given the Gamepad does the same thing for some god-forsaken reason.

I think the PS3 controllers are evidence that's not the case. You only need one button to break to mess up a controller. I think the PS4 controllers are evidence of that...

There's plenty of broken 360 controllers out there that a replaceable battery won't save.

It does what I need it to do and can actually last me through a day
and a month
compared to other controllers. Its why I like it more than the DS4.

I prefer it to the Xbone controller, and it's pretty close to the Dualshock 4 for me. The ergonomics are perfect, and I love the feel of the d-pad and the buttons. Actually, in terms of pure "feel," it's maybe the best controller I've ever used. It's fantastic,, and I'm really glad that I bought it. And yeah, that battery life is staggering.

The overall best pad is the wireless 360 (with the changeable dpad) in my opinion.
It costs a bit more than normal 360 pad but the pad feels overall better and fixed a few issues with the original pad.
The Bone pad is too expensive for even be considered a good pad.
But If you're ready to pay for it it might the best pad you can get.

The Wii U pads feel cheap and none of my friends would choose to play with it.
We have the official, an unofficial and both are no match to the 360 pad.

And I also don't get how people say DS3 pads get broken easy.
We have 4 of them and they work great for years and we didn't needed to exchange the left stick like the 360 ones.
The only broken DS3 I've encountered was when I visited someone who threw his pad against the floor regularly but it still works at least. Thankfully it's not one of my friends.

I don't think it's as good as the Dualshock 4 or the Xbox One controller, but HOLY SHIT that battery life. It's fantastic.

Has any other wireless controller ever matched the battery life of this? 360 estimate was 30 hours but it never hit that often and I don't know if any wireless PC controller having good life.

Been using both gamepad as my map, and pro to control my character (Xenoblade X). It's just a little annoying that my right stick not always register full inputs, I'm in my second pro.

It's a bit too light, its "triggers" are just flat buttons, and it's glossy so it gets fingerprints everywhere. It also can't just be turned off on its own, for some reason.

All that said, it's a really solid controller. Symmetrical sticks & long battery life are its best features.

The 80 hours battery life is bonkers.

THE XBOX ONE CONTROLLER ISN'T EVEN RECHARGEABLE OUT OF THE BOX FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

NOT EVEN THE ELITE CONTROLLER IS. WHAT THE HELL, MICROSOFT!

This is a plus, not a negative. With the Xbox controller, I have a choice. I choose to use my Eneloops.

You can use it on Windows 10 if you modify files on your computer (I don't want to do that) haven't tried buying an accessory

It is soooooooooooooooooo worth it. I tried going the hacking route an dit was a nightmare so I bought this and I kicked myself in the ass for not buying it sooner

It's, I wish the DS4 battery life could be only half of the WiiU Pro's.

It is an accessory you plug in using usb and it uses bluetooth to connect. Simple, plug and play, no software. It can be either Dinput or Xinput also.

As mentioned, it's not a positive. They can include a rechargeable, removable battery. Providing a battery does not preclude choice.

And when you mentioned it before, you were also wrong then. It *is* a choice. If I want to use a rechargeable, I can buy one. I have that choice. If I want to use my eneloops, I can do that. And I do. Choice is good.

Nah. Stick layout is terrible and buttons are whatever. Bumpers are nice, but Xbone, 360, and (I hear) PS4 controllers are better.

This is the most baffling thing I've ever read.

If they include a removable rechargeable battery you could still use your eneloops, you would still have that choice. Choice is fine, bafflingly stupidity is not. Including a play and charge kit with controllers is only a positive for consumers.

I didn't like the second analogue placement at first, but I got used to it within minutes of owning it. Apart from the lack of analogue flippers, I think it's perfect. And the battery life... everyone knows about the battery life. I haven't charged mine in months.

I'm 170 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X and have charged this controller once since I started playing.

There is no comparison to the other Gen 8 controllers, they're fucking shit when matched against this one.

What the fuck? Hahaha it's terrible that they don't include a rechargeable battery. Without including a rechargeable battery means that you HAVE to purchase an extra item to use the controller. That's terrible no matter what you want to believe about "choice"

Not including one doesn't remove the choice to use one. The only baffling thing here is your inability to comprehend simple logic.

Let me get this straight, you'd rather consumers buy a play and charge kit then have one included? So. Dumb. Give the consumers a standard way to use their controller from the beginning.

Ignore list time. I actually can't believe there's a defence force for this. "Pay an extra $30 because choice is good!"
