Is there a list of current pyramid schemes out there?

I see a few people post about that one all the time.

Question: does anybody actually make money? I'm assuming it's the people who get a ton of people underneath them?

Of course some people make money. Like in any sales job, if you sell well (or your team does, or in this case, people below you), you get rewarded for it.

It's just that very few actually make good money. But the ones that do can earn a lot, and that's the whole premise of alluring people into the pyramid. Usually it's these few great sellers that earn a lot that are actually pitching you the business when you have an 'interview'. They make sure they let you know how much to earn and have too.

The thing about pyramid schemes is that they are just the branches of a bigger corporate tree. These 'companies' live, grow and then die with the parent company sucking as much equity out of the business as possible. There is no useful list because the company name and product name keep changing.

Its much more useful to understand the qualities and traits of a pyramid scheme, because they are common traits to all shoddy business relationships.

I met someone at a Holiday Inn about a job once. It was hanging ads on doorknobs for hourly pay, but they said that before we met. (but conveniently failed to mention the insane and ever-growing quotas)
This is 100% a pyramid scheme.

He finally answered. He refused to give me the name.

Says there is no commitment and it's free. Learn what's it about and make an intelligent decision on it based on what I learn tomorrow.

Ugh.

DUDE. It's a complete and utter waste of your time. NO legit job won't tell you what it is. NONE.

A few friends of mine are into this thing called Landmark Worldwide. I'm not sure if it's a pyramid scheme, but it sure seems like it. They pay obscene amounts of money for these bizarre self-help/spirituality seminars, and are constantly trying to get everyone they know to join.
Lost a friend to Landmark, was sad

I wouldn't really call Landmark Worldwide a pyramid scheme so much as a self-help cult. There's not really an emphasis on building a "downline" of people underneath you although you are encouraged to recruit others into the program. Also, it's not really billed as a way to make money so much as a self-improvement program.

That having been said, it's seriously creepy. It says something about their reputation how many times they've changed their name over the years. Once upon a time they were known as est.

Huh, I never knew that. See I thought it might be because of the weirdness of it, but also because these friends straight up were caught up in a pyramid scheme one point. I think they were trying to sell life insurance or something.

My condolences. My friends are weirdly better since they've been involved in it. It's just that it's a little annoying to have them constantly try to get me to go.

That about wraps it up. Bail the fuck out.

This. Totally this.

Some members of my family got bit by the Amway bug at one time. Since then, I've had 'old college friends' try to pitch me on this or that. Nope! Just different versions of the same scheme.

Ugh.

80% chance it's a pyramid scheme.

20% chance they're gonna harvest your kidneys.

OP should go. If only for the lols.

I know this was largely said as a joke, but I do think there actually is value in going to one. Its one thing to write and read about their spin tactics in the safety of a forum that agrees with you, its another thing to see how they try to pressure you first hand and how effective their spin can be when they're in control.

The History on that page is pretty up-to-date, and the Talk is serious business. Probably stuff just goes undetected before it gets big enough to be noted.

I don't see TEAM (Formerly Team of Destiny) on that list. My parents lost like nine grand from them. Did they change names again?

What is the name of the one that's sponsored by trump, or some shit.

Have a friend and their mother who are HEAVY pushers of selling "offsets" and profiting off of them.

Him: It's super easy to make money, we build our income off of the interest in selling offsets.

Me: What does that mean?

Him: All you have to do is give me your utility bill and I can get you registered in the program.

Me: What? no.

Him: You can be making money off of your friends, family and even your own bills just by simply selling the offsets.

Me: WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!

Him: It's simple, let me show you this powerpoint...

Me: *cocks gun*

Lol

What did he specifically say? If you poke holes in his offer he will eventually call you an idiot for not being "intelligent"

Id watch a show devoted to something like that. I dont get people like this

From an old friend who went off the deep end on Facebook about some Pyramid scheme.

"The key to success is to stop worrying what people think about you."

AKA "The key to success is to haggle all of your friends and family and everyone to meet to join up to pyramid schemes not caring if they hate you for it.

Isnt it dangerous to a certain extent? I remember a german journalist wanted to attend a Scientology meeting to write about how they try to persuade you and in the end he wrote that he almost fell for their psychological tricks.

I can think it can be equally dangerous for some people to fall for pyramid schemes.

It's absolutely dangerous. We're inclined to believe in someone or something even if in the back of our heads we know better so long as they sell it well, no matter what it is. Lots of dumb people fall into cults and pyramid schemes, but plenty of smart people who should know better get roped in as well.

I had to cut off contact with a friend because of a Pyramid scheme and he was one of the smarter people I knew growing up. It's scary shit.

OP, stay far away.

It's a pyramid scheme. If you do go to that meeting, they will definitely ask you to pay them in order to "get the job". It's like paying $250 to Vector Marketing to buy the knife set or paying $99 to Primerica for an application fee.

Its always shocking to me just how widespread and successful pyramid schemes are. Then again I guess that its all about group psychology and pressure. People desperate for work will go out on a limb to break through.

Its scary though how it plays out.

It always comes out the same way. Someone joins up, and they hear from everyone else in the program about how much money they are raking in. Everyone is banking, but its not because its easy! No its hard work. So the reason you are failing is because you arent working hard enough. This makes you feel like an idiot, and all your friends know you invested in it so you cant just quit. So you fake it till you make it.

The problem is that everyone else is faking it too except the people at the tippy top of the pyramid.

There are some people at work that seem to be starting some kind of pyramid scheme. I wanted to talk down on it, but it then I started to think it wasn't that bad of an idea. I mean, if you are going to get involved in this crap starting one is definitely the way to go. The people at the top of all of these things are probably the only ones that ever make any money.

It is scummy and taking advantage of people's desperation and gullibility though, so there is that.
