Is there a market for custom PS4 HDD covers?

Bonus gaf cover.

One of each please. Who do I make the cheque out to?

I would be interested in this.
I loved the 360 face covers and was sad they never caught on.
Considering the HDD access is even easier these I hope would catch on better.

Since I never move mine and it's mostly hidden, I want a custom cover that bulges up, with a bracket and slot for a faster 3.5 inch HDD. Not willing to put a 1TB SSD in my PS4, but a 3TB, fast 3.5 inch drive? Sure.

Me too. But the cage underneath would need to be cut out. I think I will try to see if I can get a SATA short extension cord out through the back of the case and just have an external 3.5 drive in its own enclosure.

Who made the one in the OP? Or is it also photoshop?

Yeah, it's photoshopped.

Yeah, it's photoshopped.

Bah.

I am going to try and get my friend who is an artist for a living paint the cover of mine. I am thinking of doing a graphic from Infamous, and I am thinking either a hand with the pink neon powers coming out, or the red/blue graffiti style billboard that appears when you call in and conquer a district.

Any other suggestions?

I also like the idea of buying the $10 spare ones from Japan for him to do a few designs. He is interested in painting/selling these, but I want him to do a few proof of concept ones first to test the market. He has done some fantasy work, including some Wheel of Time licensed stuff like this:

Those looked so ugly though. I'd buy a ps4 one though

Yeah, the problem is that companies make them really tacky with terrible designs and game and company logos all over them.

If they were as polished and refined as the OPs I'd love one.

Something like this would be nice for an infamous themed cover.

this would be very cool if bundled with games/pre-orders/collectors editions. you know instead of a whole new system you can just swap the covers.

360 had the same idea but it didn't last long when they didn't have game specific ones.

I don't think I'd want to add anything to my console. I'd worry about the heat or scratching it.

Still, for those who want this type of thing, it's a good idea. Your designs are really good.

Sorry to bump this thread but I just so happen to find these on ebay:

Finally third party/unofficial replacements! However, they are a bit pricey and shipped from Japan. Just search for 'ps4 hdd replacement' to find these.

They look decent but I'm personally waiting for a plain black one with the same texture as the rest of the console. But this is a good start!

Lord, that is horrible!

I think the faceplates are a cool idea OP but why the hell is your original faceplate "scratched to shit?"

This kinda stuff really confuses me. I have ancient game hardware that looks relatively new. What are people doing to their stuff?

Edit: annnnnd here's me realizing this is an ancient thread.

Glossy black plastic can pick up scratches even from soft dusters. If any light shines on it, it looks like a horror show of tiny surface scratches.

I wonder if sony is planning on making any more of these. I haven't see any since the BB/LBP ones were announced, and it looks like they're gone or soon to be gone.

The site says its closing in a few days for a revamp, so I hope when it's back on they will add more options. I really liked the one with the tiny logos on it, and it's gone too.
